In Dante's Debt

Rate this book
Count Dante Galván was ruthless. Though it broke Daisy's heart to hand over control of her family's horse farm to him, she had no alternative—she was in Dante's debt up to her ears!

Born in Visalia, California, I'm a small town girl at heart. I love central California's golden foothills, oak trees, and the miles of farmland. In my mind, there's nothing sweeter in the world than the heady fragrance of orange blossoms on a sultry summer night.

As a little girl I spent hours on my bed, staring out the window, dreaming of far off places, fearless knights, and happy-ever-after endings. In my imagination I was never the geeky bookworm with the thick coke-bottle glasses, but a princess, a magical fairy, a Joan-of-Arc crusader.

My parents fed my imagination by taking our family to Europe for a year when I was thirteen. The year away changed me (I wasn't a geek for once!) and overseas I discovered a huge and wonderful world with different cultures and customs. I loved everything about Europe, but felt especially passionate about Italy and those gorgeous Italian men (no wonder my first very Presents hero was Italian).

I confess, after that incredible year in Europe, the travel bug bit, and bit hard. I spent much of my high school and college years abroad, studying in South Africa, Japan and Ireland. South Africa remains a country of my heart, the people, the land and politics complex and heart-wrenching.

After my years of traveling and studying I had to settle down and earn a living. With my Bachelors degree from UCLA in American Studies, a program that combines American literature and American history, I've worked in sales and marketing, as well as a director of a non-profit foundation. Later I earned my Masters in Writing from the University of San Francisco and taught jr. high and high school English.

I now live in Seattle and Hawaii with my three sons. I never mind a rainy day, either, because that's when I sit at my desk and write stories about far-away places, fascinating people, and most importantly of all, love. I like a story with a happy ending. We all do.

This is a fabulous start to The Galvan Brides Series and it’s one of my favorites.
After the death of her father, Daisy Collingsworth finds herself in financial difficulties and is trying everything to manage and keep Collingsworth Farm. Count Dante Galvan, the aristocratic Argentinean has also been dealing with the fall-out from his cad of a father. He arrives at Daisy’s home to arrange payment for her outstanding debt to him and on discovering her predicament, makes her an offer to help her…but that help comes at a price!!!

Daisy is a captivating heroine. Strong, loyal to her family and very caring. I really liked her.

Dante is ruthless, gorgeous, and sexy with a heart of gold. He also has a huge sense of family values which I liked.

Both so engaging that you wanted them to find each other and have their HEA.

Their story has everything I love in romance….intense conflict, steamy sensuality, sizzling passion and fabulous settings.

This is a book that I have read before and still love it each time I read it again and again!!!

Daisy Collingsworth and her family are in debt to Dante Galvan for a half million dollars. They are also having financial problems and facing bankruptcy with their Kentucky horse farm. When Dante arrives to collect the money they owe him he ends up taking control. He also makes a deal with Daisy for her to go to his ranch in Argentina to help her learn more about horse farming.

This book was a very captivating and interesting read. I really liked Daisy, she was a strong heroine and very loyal to her family--her sick father and her younger sister Zoe. She loved her farm and horses. I also liked Dante, who had his own troubles with his headstrong younger sister Anabella. I liked the Kentucky and Argentina settings. This was a really good book and I look forward to reading more in the "Galvan Brides" series.

Heroine is trying to run a debt-ridden horse farm along with her younger sister. Her father has Alzheimer's and the sisters don't want people to know. There is a sleazy older guy who wants to marry the heroine in return for helping out with the farm and then there is the hero who comes calling from Argentina to demand payment on a debt. He, too, has been paying for his father's mistakes and trying to get his horse empire back on track.

The beginning was very slow - with lots of horse talk, banking talk, and the heroine lying and trying to put a brave face on everything. The action picks up when the hero spirits the heroine off to his estate in Argentina where she will be working with his foreman/manager so she can learn how to run her horse farm more effectively.

If you like horsey stories, you'll probably like this one. Hero is a nice guy with a lot of problems. Heroine and her sister were remarkably obtuse when it came to money and just what kind of prognosis their father actually had. I don't care how many times the heroine said how strong and stubborn she was -she was in a complete mess and really did need the hero to bail her out.

"In Dante's Debt" is the story Daisy and Dante.
Basically, the h and H's fathers have a lucrative deal, which forces the heroine to be indebted to the hero. Both have daddy issues due to different reasons, and after some initial mishap truth is exposed.
Then the H whisks the h away to Argentina to be his employee, sister- sitter and mistress- but not wife. Soon feelings are involved, some running away, tragedy and HFN.
Started out well but the story dwindled midway through. I was very disappointed in the second half and abrupt ending because the H was stellar in the start.
Meh.

I am a huge Jane Porter fan girl. Make of that what you will. :) As always, Jane hooks me in with high drama, high emotion, and fast-paced story telling. I can't help but love her characters. She is truly one of my favorite Presents authors. (Though I am one myself, I was a fan for years before I wrote them.)

Great book. Loved the characters. Adore Annabelle and can't wait for her story. Dante is such a typical macho alpha male that you can't help but like him. Daisy is wonderfully strong. When she threw that punch, I laughed my butt off cause that's something I would love to do, but I'm too chicken. She's my hero.

3,5 starts. It had some good moments, some very promising moments, but it didn’t quite deliver on the whole. The H was nice though.

2.5 stars, because I actually enjoyed the plot.

I really do, but the writing and the way the story rolled.. Not so much. I had such a high hopes for Dante and Daisy. I was waiting for Daisy to act just like what I expected but she sort of disappoints me simply because she didn't fight as hard as I thought she would. And Dante? What the heck. I didn't see him being apologetic, especially when the worst happened. I didn't see his compassion towards Daisy and I hate it. He could do so much better than that. Look forward to read more story from this author and also Zoe and Anabella's stories perhaps?

Overall, classic Harlequin romance and I enjoyed it. Not my favorite obviously, but enjoyable nonetheless. :)

The story started out fine, but somewhere along the way it dragged. Daisy seemed to have more baggage than Dante. It could have been better.

I enjoyed this 1st in the Argentinean series so much that I had to order the rest of the books! Daisy is a strong heroine, she doesn't back down and at one point actually slugs Dante for being a jerk, of course he really didn't understand her situation. Daisy is trying to keep her family horse farm in spite of being seriously in debt to Dante and others, while trying to take of her father who has Alzheimer's and trying to keep that from being public knowledge. It was a quick read that was still filled with characters that had a lot of depth.

Another great JP read. It's full of drama, suspence, and romance. Daisy looses her families farm to Dante but as part of the loss, she moves to Argentina to Dantes ranch where the seduction begins.

Excellent read.

The reason I take one star off is that she doesn’t eat for days because she was heartbroken. She is a drama queen. Go and eat some Ben&Jerry’s.
