A good introduction to the hobby. I purchased this book as a basic reference after seeing the author speak at the National Postal Museum in Washington, DC.

The author covers all the basics: terms, how-to, suggested buying practices, organization, etc. It is well illustrated and includes interesting side-bar stories about postal history.

This is hardly an academic text about the history of postage stamps. It is, however, an excellent introduction to the ins and outs of stamp collecting. I recommend it for beginning collectors.

I am in love with this book! The illustrations are so colorful and plentiful it reinforces the love of stamps. The narrative is both entertaining and quirky as in the suggestion to go through Tashkent at the post office to collect discarded stamps. I had fun following this advice one time. This book is reassuring to the neophyte and inspiring to non collectors alike. My copy is fast becoming dog-eared! Well done!
