Sassy Lady, by Becky Barker, is a sweet and fresh story about a city girl and a country boy whose paths cross at the very beginning and their lives criss-cross back and forth until the very end. Maggie comes out to the ranch to interview for a job and finds herself in the middle of a storm with the ranch hand, Curt. He's a definite grump, but you can tell that he has a good heart and he's very protective of Maggie. The sparks fly even when he's teasing her about her fear of mice and spiders. But Curt has built walls around his heart because of a terrible experience with a woman, long ago. He doesn't dare to think that things would be different this time around. Maggie had no problem falling for him and just as things are going well, he has an accident that requires a daring rescue. I really loved this story, the characters were tremendous and it moved at a steady pace until the very last word.
The narration by Alexandra G. Haag was very good. Her dynamic, emotional voice, solid pace and modulation of the story are perfect from start to finish and the characters feel alive.

This was a great story! Maggie and Curt were an interesting couple. The city girl is having to become a country girl. Although her fear of spiders and mice showed the first night when she was stranded at his place, she proves herself intelligent and helpful in all circumstances. Maggie was a really strong female character.
Even though she wasn't his type and he didn't feel like he had anything to give her, Curt definitely was protective and took care of her. They had lots of chemistry right from the start I loved that he picked her up and put her in his bed when it was cold that first night and the morning after when they woke up!. A nice hot start!
There's as much heart in this book as there is heat. A great read by Becky Barker!
The narration by Alexandra G. Haag was very good. Her character voices were outstanding and the overall performance was the same.

The love of a good woman changed the grumpiest man. Everyone deserves to be loved. The woman who never felt like she never belonged anywhere, finally found a home with her grumpy ranch man. A match made in heaven.

Maggie is heading to the McCain ranch. She just can't seem to find her niche in life. When asking directions at the local store, the owner aims her towards Curt Hayden, one of the ranches foremen.

On the way to the ranch a storm hits so hard they stop at Curt's home and end up there for the night.

Maggie stays on the floor but during the night Curt puts here on the hide-a-bed by him as she is cold.

He don't want anything to do with women or relationships. Everyone who was ever close to him seemed to get hurt. Yet holding this tiny sassy lady in his arms sends a want in him he never had before.

Both of them try and ignore what is happening between them, but love will not be ignored.
