William King was born in Kilflynn, County Kerry in 1945. He studied at University College Dublin and Holy Cross College, Clonliffe, Dublin. He is now parish priest at Corpus Christi, Drumcondra.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel - especially the descriptive language of clerical life and the clerical setting. William King is a master of his craft. From the very first page, King demonstrates his gift for creating atmosphere—his prose is sharp, vivid, and full of energy, pulling the reader straight into a world that feels both strange and familiar. What stands out most is his ability to balance action with psychological depth. The characters are not just figures moving through a plot, but fully realized individuals whose struggles, fears, and desires feel authentic.
To say it is a modern classic in Irish Literature would not be far from the truth - in my humble opinion. A great book to read on a dark night by the fire as the wind and rain batter the windows of your abode.
