Oliver and Amanda look forward to Grandmother's visit, but when she gets there it seems that they won't have any fun. Grandmother can't read because she can't find her glasses. She can't build skyscrapers because she can't sit on the floor. Oliver and Amanda have grown too big to sit in her lap together. They fight over who gets to cuddle first. Grandmother ends up taking a nap; she is worn out by all the noise. Fortunately, things do get better. That evening, Oliver finds Grandmother's glasses, and she reads them a bedtime story while they all sit on the couch together. Grandmother soothes Amanda's fears when she has bad dreams. They sing songs until Amanda is ready to sleep again. One morning Grandmother and Amanda get up early. They fix breakfast, go for the mail, pick flowers for the table, and read books before anyone else wakes up. Oliver hides Grandmother's glasses as a joke. She forgives him and tells him of a time when she was naughty. Amanda, Oliver, and Grandmother keep each other from being too afraid during a thunderstorm. When it is time for Grandmother to leave, Amanda and Oliver help their mother cook a good-bye dinner.

This is a really cute book. Grandmother Pig can't bend her knees well and can never find her eyeglasses. The stories show how sometimes grandparents can't do certain things as they get older.
