Lizzy's Decision: A 'Pride and Prejudice' Variation Vignette

Rate this book
At the age of twenty, Miss Elizabeth Bennet has settled on a view of marriage that seems quite fixed, and is also quite the opposite of the one held by her friend Charlotte Lucas, who makes her own opinion perfectly clear one fine day when the pair meet near the village of Meryton. Will Lizzy's mind be changed when, that very evening, she hears her mother's news?

Here is another enthralling JAFF vignette by prolific Australian author Margaret Lynette Sharp.

Margaret Lynette Sharp is an award-winning writer, and the author of over eighty titles, including #1 Amazon Best Seller, 'Longbourn Revisited'. Her work was highly commended during the the 2014 Hurstville Discovery Festival of Community Arts, and published by Hurstville Council in an anthology entitled 'Write Out Loud'. In November 2015 she won a Second Prize, again in the short story section of this same competition, and her title, 'More Than a Mere Bagatelle', has been selected for inclusion in another anthology, 'The Art of Writing'.
She spent her early years in an inner city suburb of Sydney, moving with her family to a leafy, outer suburb at the age of ten.
A self-motivated student who loved to seek out information, she matriculated just before her eighteenth birthday. Her enthusiasm for literature led to further studies, with a particular focus on Short Story Writing
Shortly after the death of her elderly mother whom she cared for, Margaret met and later married Ronald Sharp B.E.M., the creator of the Sydney Opera House Grand Organ. She believes that, without doubt, he was her greatest fan and motivator.
Excelling in English himself, Ron had edited much of her early work. He passed away on 21st July, 2021.

Margaret's books have been read and reviewed by readers from Australia, U.S. and India; the vast majority of reviews have been positive.

In addition, she has three blogs on WordPress, which has received many encouraging comments.

Avid Reader

A very brief vignette that ends at 47% of the book. Elizabeth and Charlotte have the she old discussion about reasons for marrying. Charlotte is appalled because a cousin was forced to leave her gently bred existence and work as a governess. Not deterred, Elizabeth insists on marrying for love, much to Charlotte and Mrs Bennet 's dismay.

Lizzy’s Decision is a 'Pride and Prejudice' Variation Vignette by Australian author, Margaret Lynette Sharp. Upon hearing the news that Annabelle, cousin of her good friend Charlotte Lucas, has been compelled to take on work as a governess, twenty-year-old Elizabeth Bennet surprises, nay shocks, her friend by taking a radical decision about whom and why she will marry. Her mother is dismayed, but what will Mr Bennet say?
Sharp easily evokes the style and tone of Austen’s writing, giving the reader a taste of what might have occurred before Lizzy ever met Mr Darcy. This Jane Austen Fan Fiction, taken in the spirit intended, this is a brief but quite delightful read.

Elizabeth will only marry for love

Short scene where Lizzy tells her mother and others she will only marry for love. It occurs after hearing a young woman whose father has died has been forces to be a governess for six children. Obviously neither of her parents have taken time to describe what working conditions for a governess or a nanny are likely to be and what chances are she might have to fight off people like Wickham given a bad job situation.

Well written, very short.

Mrs. Bennet (Elizabeth’s mother) was waiting to hear if her conformation of 6 ball gowns has been approved/made for the Windermere House gala festivities.
Charlotte Lucas (Elizabeth’s BFF) had come to see Ms. Elizabeth “Lizzy” Bennet (20).
Annabelle (Charlotte’s cousin) was made to accept a position as governess for a well-respected clergyman/wife’s 6 children.
If Annabelle found a husband, then she could refuse.
4 of her sisters are not married either.
Elizabeth told Annabelle it could be worse like being trapped in a marriage where your husband does not love/respect your individuality.

Longbourn House. Dinner table. Mrs. Bennet informed everyone Mrs. Smith (seamstress/dressmaker) has outdone herself with the 6 gowns.
Mrs. Bennet suggested Elizabeth invite Mr. Cameron (wealthy suitor) over for dinner before Lady Lucas invited him to her place.
Lydia was not thrilled about that idea at all.
Mr. Bennet made no comment.

What were Elizabeth’s parting words?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written down under romance (Vignette) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great down under romance movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free Author; PDF book
