First of all let me state that I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.
This is not a genre I usually read but thinking that it's good to try something new I gave it a go, after all it didn't cost me anything except the one hour & 14 minutes it took to listen to it, time I'll never be able to get back, sadly.
Lots of reasons to not like this book, almost none to like it. The narrator isn't the worst but it does sound like she recorded it either in a small toilet cubicle or with her head in a dustbin.
The dialogue leaves a lot to be desired. There are hundreds of alternative verbs for "said" but it seems that the author knows only one, "asked". It gets monotonous hearing "he said", "she said", "they said" over and over again. Try some variety.
The writing appears very juvenile and the story thrown together in a rush, no time to flesh out the characters, describe the scene etc. Sadly if this is a typical example of the cozy mystery genre it has put me right off. I downloaded a number of books from this series as free promotions but I'll be deleting them, unread, from my library and go back to reading proper fiction.
This story started with Daisy's wedding and ends when she and Gavin come home from their honeymoon. Detective Crumple had a chance to shine on his own. I loved how he got some support from the same people who supported Daisy while she sleuthed. Again, this was a quick story but all the clues were there. I enjoyed listening to this story, and Marilyn Rakes did a good job with all the voices.
I received a copy of this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
Daisy and Gavin are married and enjoying their honeymoon, blissfully unaware of the murder that took place in their hometown, giving Daisy a break from sleuthing and the lead dective a chance to find out if he can indeed catch a killer on his own .
Daisy is beyond happy. It's her big day. While she's away on honeymoon, the flower shop owner winds up getting shot. The investigation goes on and many people are interrogated. It's the talk of the town.
I really adored this book. It was cute and quirky. It was a very nice and easy book to read. The only thing I really couldn't understand is the disconnect. I felt like there were two different stories going on. I didn't really figure out why Daisy and her wedding and honeymoon fit into the story until the very end. It was nice to meet her.
I enjoyed reading about the characters. But with the book being so short, I didn't really feel like I connected with any of them. They all seemed very wonderful and it's easy to see the small-town vibes in the story. I get the feeling that this book was a part of a series and that I kind of just dove in not knowing anything about the world or the characters.
I really enjoyed the narrator. I don't think I've listened to anything else by Marilyn Rakes before. I am definitely willing to listen to other books narrated by her. She has this very sweet voice that's calming. I listened to the book with my mom and my boyfriend in the car.
This was a very short and sweet read. All three of us who listened to it enjoyed it very much. I'll have to look into other books by this author and by this narrator. It was well written and well narrated.
The Deadly Floral Affair, my first (short) read/listen from author K.M. Morgan, although I own fourteen of her books I’d never gotten around to reading one. This is it. A cute, well-written clean cozy mystery. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. There was an echoey/tinny sound in the background that took away from the listening enjoyment. Marilyn Rakes soothing voice was enjoyable, however. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018)
A quick and easy listen, KM Morgan gives us more of this series with Daisy McDare! This one is a little different, since Daisy is off on her honeymoon when a murder takes place in her home town of Cozy Creek. With a vast array of suspects and a fun side story, this one is sure to give you an hour of listening pleasure. With Marilyn Rakes bringing it to life, it's an hour of fun.
The Deadly Floral Affair was another great read by K.M. Morgan. It is finally Daisy's wedding day but trouble is arising in Cozy Creek. Daisy just wants to enjoy her wedding day and honeymoon but a disaster threatens to derail her plans. This was another great read and I can't wait to read more by K.M. Morgan.
Format: audiobook I don’t know where the narrator recorded this but it sounds hollow, tinny and echoes which is off putting. The narrator’s voice is pleasant to listen to but the story didn’t really hold my attention.
A nice but short cozy murder mystery with the local cop doing a great job. The audio is narrated by Marilyn Rakes who is good at her profession but needs a better soundproof booth.
I enjoyed this clean, cozy mystery. The characters are believable and likable. The storyline is interesting. The narration is done by Marilyn Rakes and she kept your interest . I enjoyed this book.
