Lauren K. McKellar is a writer of contemporary romance reads that make you feel. This hybrid-published USA Today best-selling author loves writing books with stunning local settings, heart-throb heroes, and leading ladies who overcome great hardships in their lives. In addition to writing, Lauren loves to read, and you can often find her up at all hours of the night with a glass of wine, some chocolate, and a good book. She lives by the beach in New South Wales, Australia, with her husband, infant son, and their two dogs. Most of the time, all four of them are well behaved.
Pena.
Since reading and adoring Laruen K. McKellar’s Twisted Hearts duet, I’ve been desperate to dive into more of the author’s work. Honest Love and Bitter Truth were emotional reads that had me hooked, and I was more than willing to dive into more of such books. Thus, I was more than happy to devour All the Little Pieces.
Although All the Little Pieces was an emotional read, I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I enjoyed the Twisted Hearts duet. I think, however, this is a reflection of my feelings about short stories and novellas. I have a love-hate relationship with them, as I much prefer lengthy reads, and All the Little Pieces fell into the category of me wanting more from it.
There is no denying there was emotion to be felt throughout, the story certainly sucks you in, but I would have liked to go much deeper into things. I feel we only touched the surface of the emotions this story could have created, and I would have loved to see this as a full-length novel that broke me to pieces.
Overall, it was an enjoyable quick read, but I would have liked a bit more from it.
This was a new to me author, and the story was alright. The plot was decent, and the characters were good. The main problem I had was there was no transition between scenes in a good majority of the book. I kept finding myself having to go back and reread something to make sure I didn’t miss a page. There were times when a character was in one place, and then the very next sentence they were somewhere else with someone else and it’s a week later. What? That’s not how this works. It became very confusing. As far as the story goes, I’m torn between wishing the characters were more developed, and happy that Casey didn’t go on for longer about her losses.
A beautiful, heartwarming book. Exactly the type of thing I’ve come to like and expect from the best Aussie authors. Lauren K McKeller writes a touching story about overcoming loss and holding onto love.
Lauren captures the feelings of Casey stunningly. Her depression, her loneliness, her deepest desires, and her hope. It's a moving story of sadness and hope, tears and laughter, weakness and strength. Like the river that runs behind her home Casey's life is sometimes a torrent but often only a trickle of feelings and fears. Sean, her partner of five years asks for a break but Casey thinks breaking up is easier for both of them. Suffering guilt and depression from not being able to carry a child to full term Casey decides it is easier to be alone and not feel than to face the bleak prospects of her life. Kai thinks Casey needs saving. He couldn't save his sister but he might be able to save this beautiful broken woman. Not long after Casey and Kai enjoy a night of the best sex Casey has ever had she discovers she is pregnant with her ex's child and is surprised to find Kai is willing to stay by her side. But her body once again fails her. Casey realises she needs to save herself and learn to face life on her own terms without leaning on others and explains to Kai that until she finds herself she cannot be with him.

This book packed a punch, right in the feels. While this book is a short story, I never felt it to be rushed. It was so elegantly written and sent my emotions into overdrive.
Casey has seen so much hurt and pain in her adult life that she tried to outrun it, instead settling on starting a relationship with Kai who only ever wanted to save her.
This book resonates with real life, love, loss, hope, secrets and all the feels. Told from Casey and Kai’s POV, this book is powerfully moving and uplifting all at the same time!
What a beautifully written story Lauren has done. I could not put this one down. I didn’t want it to end. Kai and Casey were such two beautiful characters. Casey’s story made my heart hurt. What an emotional roller coaster I was on. I loved every minute of their journey. Highly recommend this gorgeous story. Thank you Lauren for writing a beautiful story.
Oh my heart! Just stomp on it, Ms. McKellar. I had tears literally flowing down my cheeks as I turned page after page, saddened by the journey I took with these characters. A short but deeply emotional read, this book was so beautifully written! I didn’t want it to end, was sad when I watched the percentage get closer and closer to 100. I need more Kai in my life!
I loved this book. It hit close to home but was so beautiful. The only thing I wish was that there was more! I read it so quickly I wish that it went for so much longer because I loved it so much! Thank you Lauren for your words 😘
