So glad I stumbled across this in a used bookstore. Each river system they travel is described in vivid detail, along with the regional areas and their people. Though not super exciting, the relaxed pace is perfect bedtime reading about rugged outdoor expeditions among friends, without the distractions of modern conveniences.

Borrowed this mainly to see Abell's photographs, but also because of some interest in paddling and travel writing. Unfortunately, the text was somewhat duller than the travel books I typically enjoy, and the poor print quality of the photographs took away from my appreciation for Abell's skill and vision.

What a serendipitous find at a library book sale. Brisk prose, great photography.
