Rock legend Jed is ready to heal the broken heart that has fueled more No. 1 hits than he can count. But although he shreds on the guitar, he's no player when it comes to women. His destiny simply isn't going to be plucked out of a line of groupies after his latest sold-out show. He is waiting until the time is right to make a play for the one he's admired from afar for years.
Record store owner Dusty wonders when someone is going to put her little business on the map. Little does she realize the anonymous person who has been helping to keep her store afloat is also a guitar god, for whom women the world over will drop their panties in a heartbeat. Is she ready to accept her fate and all that entails?
FINE PRINT: The hero is a rock and roll badass but not given to the trappings such as sleeping around. That said, it does have plenty of sexy time, swoony walks on the beach, a mature adult whirlwind relationship, a happy ending and zero cheating. NO CLIFFHANGER, but this is the companion book to Her Vinyl Vixen. Each can be read as a stand-alone. 18 and over please.
I’ve been in a book slump for months now and not really interested in reading anything, but this one kinda caught my attention. It’s a story about a “mature” couple. Heroine is in her 40’s and Hero in his 50’s. Dusty is a single mother of a girl. When story opens, the little girl is 8 yrs old & super smart. They are on the run from her ex.
Hero is in a rock band, has been married to his HS sweetheart, Darlene, for over 20 yrs or so. When story opens, they are separated but not divorced and he is slightly conflicted to work things out. I say “slightly” because his POV was confusing. In the beginning chapter, he states that he values his vows, likes talking to his wife, is lonely and hopes that she may want to go to therapy so they can work things out. In the “Present”, see quote below…..
He first “meets” the heroine over the phone at his friends’ place and is instantly attracted but because he is married, he never does anything to pursue her – other than to order records from her (she owns a record store) every week for 10 years!
Flash forward 10 yrs later and Hero is finally divorced from his wife. He has 2 grown sons and heroine’s daughter is now 21. Hero finally gets the balls to pursue her and their story begins. In the most part, this is a very well written story that many would enjoy. Hero is not a Manho and heroine is not frozen or a doormat. I didn’t get far in the story to learn about her sexual history (or his for that matter) but I know she is not a virgin.
What I didn’t like though (hence for the low rating) is that Author chose to have him remain married for another 10 yrs to his wife when he first “met” & been interested in the heroine. Now some may say it is because he was a decent man who valued his vows and wanted to make his marriage work. Great. However, in my fictional romances, I do not want my Heroes married, in love, or going back to OW. In fact, I prefer no OP at all because it is the story of the main couple that I’m interested in reading - not past ex’s. In this one, Hero & heroine don’t meet or start anything until way past ch 5 and by then, you could say that I flew the coop and DNFd. Here are some quotes though that may interest anyone to see if the writing style is for you:
Heroine making an attempt at matchmaking her daughter up with a great guy she wants for a son-in-law:
My head is spinning with the vision of fat grandbabies toddling around the boardwalk, well before I turn 45. I keep that little dream to myself, though. Some people are appalled at the idea of becoming a grandparent, but there’s nothing that would make me happier. It is the perfect start to our Memorial Day weekend. Daughter: “Fine. Have fun,” she huffs. Heroine: “You too,” I say, snapping out of my reverie to kiss her goodbye on the cheek before I head out to pack. “And could you at least try to lose your virginity while I’m gone?” “Gross, Ma.”
Hero about his marriage in the "Present" - after 10 yrs of supposedly "into" heroine:
Ten grueling years, six albums and six world tours, and I’m finally free. Free from my contract and free from my marriage. God knows why it took Darlene so long to finally agree to a divorce. Maybe she was hoping we would reconcile. We tried therapy a couple of times. But there was no use. It always came down to location and tour schedules. Maybe because she knows how old fashioned I am —I wasn’t going to be happy dating someone until the divorce was final. Maybe she was going back and forth in her mind because of her own old-fashioned notions about marriage and divorce. “It shouldn’t be that easy, Jed,” she always said whenever I called her to ask her, plead with her to just sign the damn papers. But we both knew it had been over for more than ten years. Well, now it was finally over for real, and it was time to relax. I wouldn’t necessary say “celebrate.” I’m a pretty serious guy, and I’m not one of those guys who gets a celebration cake and goes to a strip club on the night his divorce is final. That’s not for me. I could never erase what we had. Besides if we had never been married, we’d never have made two awesome kids together. No question about it, Nelson and Watts are the best things we ever did, and she’s the world’s best mom for them. I would never change that. So, not celebrating per se, just stretching out my wings, looking forward to meeting the mysterious Dusty over at Galen’s house.
Hero upon first meeting heroine:
Jed, this is our dear friend Dusty. Dusty, this is our neighbor Jed.” She turns to face me, and her golden brown eyes nearly knock me flat on my ass. I feel the need to catch my breath, which at my age could mean a cardiac episode. But it’s not that, thank fuck. Because…oh shit. Dusty is not just the lady from the record store. Or the lady with the sexy phone voice. Instantly, I know she’s something else entirely. She’s my Dusty. I want her. I have to have her. The heartbreak and angst that have given me a dozen charting blues/rock songs in the past 20 years of my career is all meaningless. It’s all a hazy memory in the presence of this…angel. That’s what she feels like. Looking into her eyes, everything from my past is healed. In fact, there is no past. She has a beautiful smile and still has the sexy, dusky voice I remember from our 10-second conversation ten years ago. The dirty dog in my brain cannot stop himself from admiring those tits, which are phenomenal up close. I can’t help but wonder what they look like without those damn clothes on…even more importantly, what they feel like…taste like…smell like. I take her hand and it’s soft and warm inside both of my big, rough, clumsy mitts. I’m praying she doesn’t notice my stupid hands are sweating right now due to my wondering what color her areolas are. Down, boy. You’ll find out soon enough. This chick is a free spirit. She’s also tough little thing, despite her warm, easy smile and her sexy demeanor. Her handshake is firm. Her gaze is piercing and steady. She’s sizing me up. She might be a little annoyed that I never revealed who I was this entire time. She’ll get over it. She has to. Because I need her. I want her. And I’m going to have her. More than that…there’s something I have never felt before for anyone. Not in a marriage that spanned decades. The need to possess her. To claim her. To pick her up and carry her off and make her mine. Dusty doesn’t know it yet but she’s already mine. Now, how do I tell her all of this without scaring the shit out of her?
Meeting a famous rockstar has never been better. Dusty after a crazy life has finally met her match in Jed, and he has been waiting all his life for someone like her. These two have a seriously hot crazy relationship.
This was a sweet read. He is a music legend that first hears her voice on the phone 10 years before they meet in person. He knows by her voice that he’d like to get to know her, but he waits because he was separated from his wife, in the middle of getting divorced. His ex drags out their divorce for years, so he never pursues her, just orders things from her website. When his divorce is finalized, he sets up to meet her...and then they get hitched.
Sweet read about 2 people getting another shot at a happily ever after. I loved that she was the dirty talker...and he loved it too. Ok heat, they have a whirlwind wedding, but don’t have a real wedding night until a month later...life gets in the ways. I also loved that he was old-fashioned and was a total gentleman in his thinking, he gets major points from me on that. Hfn.
This book definitely qualifies as a slow burn which bursts into instalove. I know that makes no sense, just bear with me. So Jed talked on the phone once with Dusty ten years earlier. He was attracted to her and proceeded to order records and such from her constantly and chatting via email. His marriage was broken but they weren't divorced. Ten years later, he is ready to meet her after the papers were signed. The moment they laid eyes on each other, it was on! These two are so cute and I love that they are older, it was a nice change for the heroine to be in her 40's and Jed is in his 50's. The addition of Jed's friend Stephanie was so awesome, I just had to give it a shout out. It isn't pivotal to the plot, I just loved it. Another amazing story from the so talented Abby Knox!
I absolutely loved Dusty and Jed’s story of rock and roll love. Reading about a more mature couple was such a welcome change and their insta-love/lust was just the perfect amount of dirty with a little bit of sweetness thrown in. Although this is an accompaniment book to His Vinyl Vixen, it can be read as a stand-alone. Abby is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next! I received this book as an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely adored this book and the characters. I laughed my ass off. It was really hilarious in some parts. I highly recommend it. I read an advanced copy of this book.

I love a story with a rock and roller, and reading about one that eschews the regularly accepted trappings of the job simply makes for an even better story! In Her Hi-Fi Hunk, Abby Knox tells the wonderful coming together story of Dusty and Jed. From troubled pasts comes a love sweeter than candy, accompanied by a serious side of sass and dirty talk and I loved every single moment of it! The story was a quick read, yet stood on its own two feet as Dusty was her fabulous independent self, and Jed his charming gentlemanly self. Yet for the right guy and gal, it is amazing what one would do for their happiness! The past coming back to haunt them, if briefly, was well written, and I loved how Jed stood up for what's his, a.k.a., his beautiful wife! I definitely need to sort myself out and read the rest in this world! Also, I adore Stevie Nicks, which simply makes this all the better! You won't regret checking out this new release from Abby!
I loved Vinyl Vixen — it’s probably my favorite by this author! So even though I’m not typically into romances with older characters, I knew this would be a good one.
This book is about a single mother in her 40s finding love in an unexpected place. You don’t have to read Vinyl Vixen before this one, but I recommend it.
I absolutely love the world created in these books. Dusty and Zara are the cutest mother/daughter, and I loved watching Dusty find her HEA.
It’s love at first see with his ears (quote from The Office that fits here), and it’s super sweet, hot and low angst.
Talk about a sweet and steamy book, Her Hi-Fi Hunk is a great read. I really enjoyed this book and let me tell you Abby Knox is becoming a one click author for me.
