Sarah Killian: The Mullets of Madness

Rate this book

Have you ever woken one morning with a burning, insatiable desire to go out and kill someone?

Sarah Killian, a notoriously foul-mouthed and mean-spirited serial killer for hire, along with her cohort assassin Mary Sue Keller, are back on assignment for the Trusted Hierarchy of Everyday Murderers (T.H.E.M.).

After receiving an ominous warning from a mark-gone-wrong, it becomes clear that Nick Jin—Sarah’s former nemesis—is still at large and singling her out.

Sarah and Mary Sue are dispatched to Tennessee to discreetly kill off an accused family of KKK organizers, but their true mission is to lure Nick Jin into a trap. But will Nick—always several steps ahead of T.H.E.M.—see their bait for what it is? One thing is guaranteed: blood will be shed.

In the spirit of Sidney Sheldon, Dean Koontz, and Joss Whedon, The Mullets of Madness is a truly unique blend of horror, suspense and espionage.

This thriller is proudly represented by Crystal Lake Publishing—Tales from the Darkest Depths.

Interview with the author:

What makes this suspense thriller so special?

It is the only example I'm aware of that blends the genres of horror-thriller and spy/espionage-thriller.

Tell us more about Sarah Killian.
Sarah Killian is a no-nonsense bad-ass—sharing ranks with Buffy Summers and Sydney Bristow. Sure she's a violent sociopath, but that's just part of her charm.

Why should readers give this series a try?

Sarah Killian offers snark, blood-n-gore, spy gadgets, sex, and intrigue (not necessarily in that order!).

There's nothing remotely funny about thr depredations of serial killers, who wreak tragic havoc for both victims and their loved ones. Nonetheless, author Mark Sheldon wrings his own thread of black noir gallows humour from the adventures of competent yet feckless Sarah Killian, "Professional Serial Killer," and her unwanted sidekick Mary Sue. Under threat from a former "colleague" (now pathological lunatic and prison escapee), Sarah and Mary Sue head to central Tennessee to take out a clan of white supremacists--all in the family, don't you know. But super-Nemesis Nick Jin is suddenly several steps ahead, there's a new seemingly supernatural overtone to his attacks, and Sarah and Mary Sue may not be "last man standing" this time around.

Oh mullets, have you no end to your stylistic pantheon? Sarah Killian has a thing or two to say about some wearers of your hair-back embellishment.

This is book 2 of Mark Sheldon’s Sarah Killian trilogy and it’s another good’n. Our serial killing professional is dodging the assassin (with an italicized ASS) from her previous book’s jaunt, Nick Jin. She had narrowly escaped him, and has reason to believe their battle will be over only when he’s dead.

Misk, her newfound friend in the murderous trade, will be along for her next job, should they get ambushed unsavorily. And it isn’t long before they learn that Mr. Jin is indeed not only on Sarah’s trail, but is much closer than they had suspected.

Thus begins a new styling of pro serial killing, that involves an avoidance combined with a bait and gored switch. Sarah and Misk are sent on a new job, this one involving a culture ripe with the title’s cited hair-demeanor, and it isn’t long before they are again reminded that nothing is quite as it seems. Especially in the slaughter-for-hire game.

Another deadly and hilarious journey with really great characters who revel in the bloodiest of trades in the most badass ways possible.

The third and final installment has just come out, The Marching Tides, and I can’t wait to read it. If it’s anything like the first two, I’ll be chuckling and dry-heaving with glorious abandon.

Another great selection from the folks at Crystal Lake Publishing.

More thrilling and hilarious adventures of Sarah Killian, Professional Serial Killer. In this second book in the series, Sarah and her assassin friend Mary Sue investigate a supposed group of KKK members in Tennessee (Bucksnort actually, which yes, is in fact a real place), while trying to lure Sarah’s arch nemesis, Nick Jin, out of hiding.

I love Sarah’s adventures, and book 2 is just as fun as its predecessor. Hopefully there’s a part 3 coming, because this one leaves us with several unresolved plot lines. I’m excited to see what Sheldon thinks of next!

Note: While Sheldon does a good job of briefly recapping the events of the first book in the beginning of this one, I still recommend not reading Mullets of Madness until you’ve checked out the book before it.
