A sudden change of academic plans throws theater nerd Beckett Benson into an unexpected partnership with campus hockey god Alex Hayes.
When Alex jumps at the chance to act in a love scene for their drama final, Beckett refuses—until Alex gives him a reason not to.
It only takes one kiss for both boys to know they want more, but with one week before their final project—and their time together—ends, will the instant spark between them burn bright or burn out?
Acts of Love is a short side story novella set in the Cut to the Feeling series as book 2.5. It is a gay instalove nerd/jock + first time romance with a guaranteed HEA that can stand alone alongside the series.
Noah Steele is a gay author based in Toronto, Canada. His books are low angst, dreamy, steamy reads starring queer characters getting the happy endings they deserve. Queerness is strength, and the men at the heart of his books embody that strength without experiencing queerness as a roadblock to happiness.
Like Noah, they're figuring themselves out and thriving in their whirlwind romantic adventures! When he's not writing, Noah is an avid video gamer and gym-goer.
Another instalove handled quite nicely by Steele. As a novella, their story lacked some of the elements I truly enjoyed in books one and two, but it was still a satisfying romance with a thought out plot.
I went a bit squish for Beckett. His theater geek self was just too adorable, and Alex’s hot-jock presence was the perfect pairing to draw out some of my favorite tropes. This story could standalone without the others very well, but there was still enough influence from the other Cut to the Feeling books that it felt like part of the world. Overall, it was a wonderful addition to the series and I can’t wait to see what else Steele creates!
"We might not be perfect, I thought, but whatever we are, we're together"
It's never easy going against the plans that your parents have made for you, even when those plans make you miserable. Being on the ice and playing hockey has always been fun for Alex, but his father wants Alex to make it his life's career. An oversight on Alex's part gets him temporarily suspended from the team, until he can pull his grade up in his theater class. A class that he completely forgot that he was enrolled in! Alex is relying heavily on Beckett, a fellow class mate, to 'make the grade' and reinstate Alex to the hockey team. But along the way Alex realizes that there is more to life than just hockey. There's Beckett.
Will Alex get the courage to stand up to his father? Will he find the strength to tell Beckett how he feels? Will Beckett allow himself to 'act' on his hearts desires?
Follow Alex and Beckett on their journey to find out.
This short story tugged at my heartstrings! There was just enough fluff, angst, and heat packed in those pages to satisfy an itch for those things! The character development was there as well, which is something one doesn't get very often in a short story!! Alex's character was full of surprises for me, and I loved it. I'm hoping this author writes more of these two because I really want to see them through to a happy ending!
This is actually my favorite of the series so far! I think it was just that the drama was a little more low key than the other books, and that just worked well for me today. It was still sugary sweet and fluffy like the other books with a nice opposites attract romance. I loved the cameos of all the MCs from the previous series, but this definitely can standalone.
Acts of Love is a wonderful insta love, low angst romance. Beck and Lex are paired up to create a theater scene at college. Lex needs to get a passing grade on the scene. With only a week to prepare their scene, and sparks flying, Lex and Beck grow closer, and realize that a week together may not be enough. I adored Beck and Lex. Their romance is sweet. Lex has some family issues, and it was refreshing to see those issues not become an obstacle for them. I am a big fan of Noah Steele's writing. I'm always drawn into his characters, and rooting for them to get their HEA's.
Noah’s books get better and better. This one a shorter story than the others. I read in a day. A hockey player and a drama student. An unlikely pairing but simply perfect. Loved it.
A short but sweet novella where Beckett and Alex find that they can turn their romantic acting chemistry into so much more. Each man shows that there is more than meets the eye as they get to know each other through a whirlwind project.
Edit : Up to 3.75 instead of 3. I just read the bonus chapter and it was hot, and sweet. Lex bottoming for the first time is sexy as hell. I’m glad to see they’re still together after 1 year, living together and happy. Freaking cute ❤️
I enjoyed this book so much. I love jock/nerd trope and this one is so different from the usual nerd falling for the unattainable straight jock and it’s refreshing. It’s the Alex the jock who falls for Beckett the nerd first and the big reveal near the end that Lexi picked Beck as his partner for their final scene drama because he crushed on him so hard was cute. The relationship development was so sweet, the pace was good and they didn’t jump to bed immediately. There’s only one sex scene and it was hot I loved how Alex stood up to his father, defended Beck and basically telling him to go fuck himself, that he’s done with hockey and going to do what he always wanted to do : art.
There’s is no epilogue but the ending is an HEA
It’s not the first book I read by this author but unfortunately the other book is not available on GR. It’s an amazing one, roommates best friends to lovers.
This is definitely the best in the series so far, IMO, as the characters actually get to know each other, even though it still fits the Insta-love trope.
Beckett is in drama class, and he and his partner already have their final project almost complete. When he is called in for a meeting backstage at the auditorium, he's not sure what to expect. He does, however, recognize the school's most famous hockey player of the time sitting in his chair when he turns back from looking through the curtains.
They strike up a conversation, and Beckett finds himself enjoying talking with Alex, or Lex. That is until the drama instructor and Alex's coach inform him that he has a new partner and one week to prepare for the final project with a jock who hasn't bothered to show up the entire semester.
But as the two young men work together, they learn more about each other as people. They fell for each other with the first kiss, but with each secret shared, every obstacle overcome, and every dream brought to light, they find themselves entwined more and more in each others lives. There is some angst and family drama, and some binds are broken leading to happier living. And in the end, Beckett and Lex get their happily ever after.
* I received an ARC of this book and I am leaving my honest review. *
Acts of love is book number 2.5 of the Cut to the Feeling series by author Noah Steele. This is first-person Pov. While not my favorite POV it does work for this series. Beckett is a college student. He is in drama class. He has a new partner he is not thrilled at. A guy who really has not attended the class before. He probably doesn’t care about his grades. Not like Beckett who loves this class. He is really hard on his partner. I get why but I felt for Alex. He had a huge wall to get through to be with Beckett. Alex is a jock. He needs this class to keep his scholarship. He is willing to pull his weight too. He knows he has a lot of learning to do but he wants to do well. I like how Alex and Beckett grow not just as a couple but as people in this book. I felt the pace of the love story itself was great not too rushed. But what I loved about this story the most is each man finding who they really are in this book and becoming more as a couple than they could apart. Really well done. I cannot wait for more from this series in the future. I wanna know who falls in love with who next.
Wow unsuspected love - forced to pass to keep a scholarship & discover choices and a life!
Alex is the hockey star but needs his grades up to keep the scholarship. He has a drama class to pass and his partner the drama theater are in the hole is to help him pass. Alex/Lexi has a bad reputation to over come flirt, love & leave them, star on the ice and definitely not serious about theater. Beckett/Beck serious about his class & has his final all set & gets dumped a week to go a new partner the jock...could things get worse? The men from a partnership & friendship but in the end they are each other ride or die. Pressure of parents, school and future break most couples up but looks like it will make them stronger. Great love story. V1 S2 @my2cents_booklover Thanks
A very different Jock/Artist story from the previous one I read. Alex's scholarship is in jeopardy from his lack of attendance to a theatre class. Beckett has been getting ready for his final performance for the course when he suddenly finds himself paired with Alex. Alex surprisingly is comfortable in his sexuality, something unexpected from a jock, and he openly flirts with Beckett from the beginning. Beckett is unsure that Alex can act, let alone be serious about getting together for longer than necessary to pass the class. Then there's one kiss which may just change everything. An interesting short read.
Acts of Love is a fun and flirty college romance by Noah Steele.
A theatre nerd and a college athlete are partnered up for a project. Beckett doesn't trust the hunky Alex's flirting, but when they team up to perform a love scene, the chemistry sizzles.
The author's writing style is fluid and definitely keeps the reader's interest. A short story at just 120 pages, it's a fast read. Despite it's short length, the reader is easily pulled into the drama, as Alex has a controlling father.
Acts of Love is a sweet story of a young man fighting to be himself. Noah Steele has delivered once again in this insta-love romance.
"Yeah," "me, too" This is a great short story to read, written with Beckett's pov. It starts great and you get to know both characters but all is not what is seams with Alex. And there maybe trouble ahead with an encounter. I wouldve loved to have had Alex's pov but its still a great book. I loved the ending of this.
Beckett officially meets Alex the star ice hockey player of city U. And wonders why they where both at the theatre alone.
This was a short and sweet romance between college hockey star, Alex and theater guy Beckett. Their instant attraction and love was fitting for college and the opposites attract theme was adorable as Alex had a soft artistic side to him as well. The book was a cute break from the main characters in this series.
After the intensity of the first 2 books in the series, I consider this wonderful sweet story of Alex and Beckett a kind of interlude... a relaxing time before continuing with the next book. Easy to read even after a few low angst situations, this story is nice and romantic with some amazing hot scenes. Loved it! I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
This was a cute short story in the Cut to the Feeling universe. There wasn't as much drama as in books 1 & 2, but it worked for this one. It was nice to see some familiar characters as well as some scenes in Jolt.
I recieved an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.
good.. sweet.. sexy. fun.. and entertaining.. kept me on the edge of my seat curious to see what was next. i enjoyed this one a lot and cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
I absolutely LOVED this marvelous, sweet, charming, delightful, grab-you-by-the-feels, poignant, engaging, sexy, and totally awesome twist on your typical jock/geek storyline.
