I think this is one of the best ones in this series but sadly I missed a couple of books and have to remedy it. I hate it when I don't get the books in order. For thriller fans and of course fans of Reacher, try this.
"Everyone's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth." The Man Who Works Alone is book 11 in the Jack Reacher Cases, and these short, easy read thrillers have improved as the series continued, mostly because characterisation is weak but familiarity with the main protagonists allows the reader to overlook this.
Pauling, ex FBI and a wealthy woman following the sale of her security business, and Tallon, who still accepts contracts for the military, have not yet totally established house together, though Lauren is spending increasing periods of time at the ranch outside of Independence Springs in Navada. For this book, however, she is visiting New York, concerned about a new client recently brought into what used to be her company: a client obviously very wealthy but about which she knew nothing. And Fallon fears for his old friend and colleague, Pacho, who sent his a voice mail but didn't leave a message and he leaves for Law Vegas to find out what has happened. Eventually, the couple meet up again in Low Angeles, guns blazing. These stories might be short but they are always full of action.
THE MAN WHO WORKS ALONE #11 Dan Ames Paco a professional assassin, a decision to work alone, wanting operational control. Now, the blood from gunshots and blame was his. Message sent to Michael Tallon, the killer didn’t know of him, but would and why Paco texted him. When Tallon gets this unusual message, then sees what happened. He is drawn in , and soon realizes their is a target now on him. Lauren is going with her gut instinct, and things are not right, to little information and the profit of a new company is too big. She is wanting answers they are too hesitant to give. They both still have obligations that pull them into situations they need to handle. Yet,spending time and missing one another is a given. One is pulled in from the first page, what was the op that Paco was dealing with. As always fast adrenaline for readers to the end. You love the characters, and awaiting the next thriller. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
I received an ARC from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. I have read most of the Jack Reacher Cases by Dan Ames and they just keep getting better and better. My favorite book of this series is always the one I just finished reading. I keep thinking "This is the best; it can't get better!" and Mr. Ames keeps proving me wrong. I thoroughly enjoy the partnership, both professional and personal, between Pauling and Tallon. They really work well together; in every sense of that phrase. There is plenty of "shoot 'em up" action, suspense, and twists and turns. I really liked how the book ended. It's not a cliffhanger at all (one of my biggest pet peeves), but if Mr. Ames wants to take the story in a continuing arc the ending plays well into that. Pick this book up at your first opportunity. You don't want to miss it.
Loved this latest installment in the series. When the series starts off, it appears that Tallon and Pauling are trying to solve separate mysteries - or are they?
Even though Lauren sold her company, she has been invited to the annual meeting. Her instincts tell her something is wrong with the newest large client, Zeta Corporation, since the information regarding the company and it's management staff is pretty thin.
Meanwhile, Tallon has a mysterious voice message from his friend Paco. Turns out Paco was in Vegas at the time of the call so Tallon goes there to investigate.
You'll want to make sure you have a block of time to read this story as you won't want to put it down once you start. There's lots of action, deceit, and some previous bad guys making an appearance.
Michael Tallon and Lauren Pauling are a very unique team. Pauling, former FBI, private investigator. Tallon, tier one operator, US mi!itary. Both are simply put, the best in their respective businesses. A Close friend of Tallons has been murdered. Pauling who recently sold her private investigator business is attending a meeting with the new owners. Pauling correctly senses something is not right. So does Tallons investigation into his friends murder. Bodies are starting to pile up. Professional hits. Pauling and Tallon are caught in the middle of all of it. Riveting, pulse pounding non stop action. Enjoyed immensely.
This book is another in the series of Lauren Paulson and Michael Tallon. The story line has them teaming up in search of a mysterious business that has allegedly sought out Paulson's Security Firm which she has sold and retired from. She has agreed to stay on as a consultant and can not verify the bona fides of the business. This book is full of action, and is a brilliant read. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
Never recommend it. leave you with an awful amount of unanswered question. why on the earth they involved the detection firm to their plot business? it must be an idiotic mindset that killing a few tax authorities result in a complete change in global tax system (as if there is a global tax system). and just imagine a super world class criminal is not able to set a basic security protection platform in her operational center.
Another Tallon special. He and Pauling become involved in separate issues that become one large attempt at killing off anyone around the world that believed income disparity had to be overcome. They tackled a major killing machine and came out on top. Good read.
Lauren Pauling and Michael Tallon together again, a dynamic duo, working to foil a global conspiracy whose aim is to bring an end to civilization as we know it.
Wow. Another Jack Reacher. Can’t get better than this to make your day. A killer calls Mallon for help and then gets killed. Complete suspense until the end. Don’t miss out.
The Man Who Works Alone - a review by Rosemary Kenny
*slight spoilers* Who is the eponymous Man? Why does he work alone? Is it possible he's the (invisible throughout, as usual), hero-of-the-underdog and stalwart of many thrilling adventures, Mr Jack Reacher? He certainly works - and enforces his own brand of justice - alone, living an off-the-grid lifestyle as he thumbs a lift or walks wherever the fancy takes him.
Or is the titular character of this breathtaking, all-action thriller Reacher's sometime sidekick, FBI Agent Michael Tallon? He's the first MC to appear throughout The Man Who Works Alone, which is Book 11 in the Jack Reacher Cases series, (based on Lee Child's stentorian ex-US Army nomadic character), by Dan Ames.
Then again, the title could be a red herring, hinting that 'The Man' could be Paco - the seemingly cold-hearted mercenary, who's an old friend of Tallon's, paying the ultimate price when his latest mission is sabotaged? Or could 'he' be the anonymous 'Mr Big' - a shadowy corporate figure, who ruthlessly arranges the despatch of any who stand in his way - who can tell? What is certain, is that MC the luscious Lauren Pauling, is now an independently wealthy, keen-eyed, savvy P.I. Determined to get her 'man' - either Tallon in the romantic sense, (who would-be-more to Tallon if she'd only make her mind up) or alternately an unsavoury adversary who's set her neck-hairs tingling with alarm, (because of his dangerous ambitions after inserting himself into the security business she sold so recently). Lauren and Tallon must now work together in the latest great story,The Man Who Works Alone, by the incredible Dan Ames, before more than LA and New York are completely decimated.

I am part of this authors advance team. This is an honest review. Just like all of the other books in this series, this story is a very fast paced, action packed story. The story pulls you in from the first chapter and you meet new characters, old characters and lots of adventure and surprises. It is a very fast read and you will not want to put it down. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I received an eARC for this book. The story is gripping and fast paced and once again, our favorite characters are seen in full action mode. It's interesting how the author connects seemingly unrelated events to bring us a brilliant thriller.
Great read as Tallon and Pauling are back in action together again. Never a boring moment in the story and it will keep you entertained and flipping pages .
