Loved this one! This One’s For You is the perfect book for anyone who believes that your past should not define your future. It’s a beautiful romance about two people who have experienced significant trauma and are learning to move past it. The story follows Vanessa and Ian, who briefly met at a trauma support group and reconnect several months later. Ian is a member of a famous rock band and is a recovering alcoholic, finally getting his life together after many dark years. He’s just starting to realize that he’s worth more, and he wants a serious relationship like the ones he sees around him. Something about Vanessa appealed to him the instant he met her, but she was still in a dark place when they met. Now that they’re both on the road to recovery, romance seems possible but they each have baggage they need to work through before that can become reality.
It’s a really profound and compelling romance that shows everyone is deserving of love. Ian was fantastic - his feelings for Vanessa ran deep from the start, he just had to convince her that he’s worth tasking a risk on. It was so refreshing that the male lead didn’t waiver on his feelings; he truly just wanted to be worthy of Vanessa. For a book with such heavy themes, it never got overly angsty - sure, there was plenty of struggle but the story didn’t get bogged down by it. If I have any complaints about the book, it would be the pacing, but really this is just a great romance. I’m glad I checked it out and now I’m looking forward to the couple who will star in the next book.
