Iron Legion Battlebox

Rate this book
4 Novels. Just One Dollar. James 'Red' Maddox was born in a cloning tube for one to work. That's all his life offers, just the prospect of decades of back-breaking labor until he dies. That's until a Federation dropship touches down on Genesis-526. Suddenly hard labor doesn't seem so bad, because the Federation Ground Corps needs fresh meat. And they don't take no for an answer... The problem, in Red's eyes, is their 7% survival rate. Until he's offered a lifeline - the Mech Corps. They're the elite. The first in and last out of every fight, piloting twenty foot tall steel beasts of war. But no tuber has ever made it into the Corps, and they want to keep it that way. The instructors want him out, the other recruits want him gone, and they'll stop at nothing to make sure it happens. Red's about to find out that he's jumped from the frying pan straight into the fire. And over the course of four books and more than 1,000 pages, he'll be forced to battle fellow recruits, aliens, the Federation's greatest enemies, and eventually, the Federation itself... Box Set 1. Recruit 2. Soldier. 3. Hunter. 4. Warrior

Some good, some not so

It is space opera. A story of 4 to 6 people, an antagonist, good and evil, written engagingly, with some pretty standard tropes as part of the story. Boy does not get girl (at least by the end of book 4) and there are genetically modified humans, tube grown humans, aliens, androids, friendship across boundaries, and some endearing traits shown and developed by the main character.
Overall, the reading kept me entertained throughout, and I will probably try these authors again in the future.😸

A DR/DM. Space Wartime Action Adventure (ILB)

DR/DM. Combined Space Wartime Action Adventures/ (1) Recruit/ (2) Soldier/ (3) Hunter/ (4) Warrior of a young man syphilis is forcibly conscripted into the milatary. He is a human, but was born as a Tuber which was a bad sign to regular humans. He is trained to the ninth degree and placed in the Iron Legion. The four novels are from his first day until he becomes the routing if a Space Warrior. This is an excellent selection of reads for the genre.....DEHS

Curious mixed bag

Kind of enjoyable. The main protagonist is likeable, the humour palpable. But there are real problems with the story. You never get a real sense of the robotic suits sizes or looks. The love interest is really annoying and always in a sulk about what it is never clear. There is an overarching story, but the point of it is also unclear, basically stop the ancients tech from falling into "anyone's" hands. The ending makes zero sense and I assume this is to milk a little extra milage out of follow up books.

While I loved this collection of books, I've have only one gripe: the interpersonal drama Red has with certain characters feels incredibly, INCREDIBLY forced. Particularly with Alice for WAY too long after he tried to take what he thought would be the fall for what happened on Draven and with Demeter after they slept together.

I liked it.

It was fast moving and had lots of twists and turns. I just wish there had been no profanity. Tough to get my grandsons interested in this genre when I can’t let them read it. I felt other readable terms would have made the book better and show the author’s skill at word skill.

Enjoyed reading it, thoroughly enjoyed the characters.

Kept me entertained all the way through. If you enjoy old fashioned space opera you should enjoy it. Only caveat, there are odd words used in descriptive passages as well as some careless grammatical errors. Fortunately not so many they spoiled the adventure.

DNF

This book didn't live up to the blurb. I was expecting more from the MC, but he's just an asshole to me. While some of it can be explained due to his background, I found that he's just lacking in all ways that matter. Furthermore, I really dislike the lack of background on the training in book one, the only book I finished.

Good story questionable editing

The actual story is top notch. Pacing is good and the plot fun. Overall I don’t regret reading it and even pressed thru despite some seriously subpar grammar, and plainly bad editing.

A tad unrealistic

As if to multi planetary systems would be that ignorant of planetary military so simplistic. Yet our bumbling failures always come out ahead. Yeppers.
But for a simplistic fast paced action book. It's ok. Best I may say.

Outstanding series.

I found this series well put together. All of the characters believable. Well thought out. There could have been more stories in the series. Especially if he found Greg.

Very good- but..

This is a very entertaining read, one I would normally give five stars, but the last book seemed to end as if the author had run out of ideas. A team disbanded, two missing without explanation!,,

Well I have read the full Battlebox series so far and have totally enjoyed it all. I am hoping there is more to come from the Iron Legion storyline. 😃

Okay

Shockingly bad spelling mistakes and bad grammar, but most authors seem semi-literate these days which is a pity because it is generally a good read

Very good!

Kept me going till I finished the book. I liked that there were always mysteries. Looks like there aren't any follow up books to this series. Not good.

Loved it!!

Well-written, characters were believable. The action was griping. Looking forward to more in this series. Why are required number of words before I can post my review

First book was great and got me excited. Book 2 was a complete let down consisting more of a mystery than the space opera action of the first. I stopped about halfway into book 2.

Not bad

David did a good job of building up the characters the only thing I did not like were some situations were a little unbelievable and hard to follow.
