Riding in shopping carts, going to the trendiest dance clubs, or hanging by the pool are some of the wild and wacky things this group of "grannies on the go" do to keep themselves busy and always young at heart!
Before I read this to my four year old granddaughter I asked her if she knew any little old ladies. She said no. Then I read her the story of what active lives and past lives these well illustrated, cute little old ladies lived. At the end of the book Bethany said to me, "You look one of these ladies." So, I guess that's that!
There are moments of humor. Not sure how I feel about that green skinned old lady -- especially when she's in her purple lingerie (twice since there is also a reflection of her in the mirror): is this supposed to be a "cultural" experience of the American young readers since this is a German picture book translated? If we are shocked, are we to be pegged as close-minded? It's not a bad book; it's just not outstanding.
I love this book, and both of my kids did too! The illustrations are fun, the story is kind of short, but I still think it's a gem. It was a great way for me to introduce the good ol' "respect your elders" moral to my young children. I reccommend it to children 2-6 years old.
