Rockefeller was the quintessential industrialist. He created an industry out of nascent oil and gas start-ups during a time when none existed. His strategies and tactics may not have been approved by all, but he was certain he was doing God’s work.We live in a world today that is based on the actions of John D. Rockefeller. Everything we do and how we live are the result of oil and its power. This inherent structure is based on what one man did when the oil industry was just starting off. He was strategic in his thinking, choosing to enter the refining side of the oil industry instead of the exploring and drilling aspect of it. He started with one refinery and then quickly bought up more than 90 percent of his competitors in the state within a few short years. The story of Rockefeller as told in this book provides a deep view of the oil industry and is told from a very human and real perspective. It looks at the events that shaped his life, from the shenanigans of his crooked father to the pleasant and philanthropic old man that he became. It is a story that is both instructive and interesting. It is a story of America itself told from the perspective of one of the world’s most successful men who rose from nothing and set the world on its path—a path that we still traverse today almost a century after his passing.Read this book and learn about the conversations and twists and turns that were part of John D. If you have any critical thinking skills you'll wonder why this guy is so invested in defending the integrity and morality of a dead rich white guy. It's especially strange considering this is a biography which should be purely objective and the opinions of the author should not be included. The book is riddled with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors its like an editor has never even touched this book.
This book was not well written. There were grammatical errors, punctuation errors and lots of repetition. I felt like I was reading a very long-winded school report.
This book offers an insightful look into the life of John D. Rockefeller, one of the most influential figures in American history. It explores how he built the oil industry from the ground up, shaping the modern world in ways we still feel today.
The book does a great job of balancing Rockefeller’s business strategies with his personal life, from his tough upbringing to his later years as a philanthropist. Readers will appreciate the detailed analysis of his bold decisions, his controversial methods, and his lasting impact.
Overall, this is a fascinating read for anyone interested in business, history, or the story of a man who rose from nothing to become one of the richest and most powerful individuals in history.
A Good Biography About One of History’s Great Industrial Titans
I bought this book partly because I wanted to read a biography of John Rockefeller that wasn’t completely biased against him. This biography is quite readable, and seems to be written at a middle school level. But don’t let the reading level fool you: this is a very informative biography that doesn’t ignore some of the underhanded methods Rockefeller used to achieve success, despite the author’s sympathetic view of the oil tycoon. Other biographies delve into Rockefeller’s life in much greater detail, but this book remains a very good introduction to John Rockefeller’s life and career.
