The Nanny Rules

Rate this book

Don’t touch the nanny. It’s one rule I’m most certainly going to break.

Since becoming a single father, I have two things that keep me sane—my daughter Lily and playing football for the NFL. But when my meddling sister hires a nanny without my knowledge, I’m not thrilled to come home and find the woman has taken over my house. Our instant attraction is one more complication I don’t need in my life.

But my daughter loves Amelia, and I will do anything for that tiny munchkin. Even if it means walking around with blue balls most of the time. Why does the nanny have to be so sweet—and drop dead gorgeous? She’s driving me crazy. Never in my life have I wanted a woman more.

I just need to make it through this season. I can do that. Hands free, of course. But then there’s that moment, and I know she’s thinking what I’m thinking and, well, yeah. Screw the rules...

Predictable ⭐️

The Nanny Rules is a fast smutty read, only for those of you who normally enjoy an easy-romance.
It’s one of the most common tropes out there, so you’ll see where the story goes before reading it. I felt like I could have written it myself, just because there was no element of surprise and every action or dialogue was predictable.

If you refrain for judging the characters and the plot, you will definitely enjoy it. Take it as a guilty pleasure and leave it at that. I don’t think there’s a way of writing a masterpiece on this subject, so don’t set your expectations too high.

All in all, I enjoyed it. :) It wasn’t a waste of time reading it and to tell you the truth, I felt the heat of their sex scenes. ☺️

Sweet ending!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really enjoyed this book so much. Brody was trying so hard. Heartbroken but mainly angry, he was trying not to take advantage of the pretty young thing.
Amelia was super sweet and an amazing influence to his little girl.
While this book is very predictable in its story, the author did a great job I feel with her character development. The heat level could’ve been a bit better, however. Plus, once we got past all the misunderstandings, it took a very long time for them to truly make a call on their relationship.
It did offer a super sweet ending that really made the story. Overall, a fun enjoyable read of a typical contemporary love story.
Nope, nope, nope and nope. So much nope here.
Plot overview: Too-perfect-to-be-real Amelia is NFL player Brody’s new nanny. They have sex a lot. That’s about it.
This books starts right out with Brody finding Amelia half naked in his kitchen. He had no idea that his sister hired Amelia to look after his daughter, Lilly. And what new live-in employee doesn’t wander around her employer’s house in her underwear? (The answer is no one. No one does this. It’s just a plot contrivance to set up sexual attraction between Amelia and Brody)
At 5% of the story I’m already getting sick of reading about the “pebbled nipples” and hard-ons and clenching vaginas. Enough already! I get it. They’re attracted to each other. Never mind that they haven’t had so much as one grown-up conversation with each other, they’re ready to jump each other at first sight. Understood. Can we move on to the plot now?
The problem is that there isn’t any plot. Brody’s doing the whole “I can never love again” dance because his wife cheated on him before she died. Amelia doesn’t let anyone in emotionally because REASONS that involve a bad childhood that is only hinted at and never fully explored. But these romance novel cliches don’t equal an actual plot, so other than a bunch of sex and “this can’t be more” discussions, there isn’t much else going on here.
Then there was this randomness that irked me:
1. There’s a little drama with the guy Brody’s wife was cheating with, then there’s a little drama with a guy Amelia meets at the park, then there’s a little drama with Brody’s physical therapist...and none of it happens for any apparent reason. None of these things move the plot along in any way or do anything to further the romance between Amelia and Brody. I HATE drama for the sake of drama, and this book was FULL OF IT.
2. At one point, Brody is being an ass to Amelia. She rationalizes that the more he pushes her away and treats her like crap, the more he cares. Um...no, honey. That’s not how it works. He’s not being a dick because he cares. He’s being a dick because he’s a dick.
3. Amelia fell for Brody REALLY fast. I don’t know how much talking they were doing while watching Survivor together, but other than that, they’re barely together long enough to know anything of substance about the other person, let alone fall for them. It was pretty instalove-y.
4. Amelia certainly didn’t have a problem with sleeping with her boss. It didn’t even rate as a moral issue for her. That seemed odd to me. She’s having sex with a guy who pays her, and it never even really occurs to her that sleeping with him might not be the best idea she’s ever had. I questioned her intelligence at this point.
Long-story-short, I thought Brody was a dick, Amelia was an idiot and a doormat, and there wasn’t much of anything going on plot wise throughout the entire book. It’s basically just a bunch of random events linked together by sex scenes. I won’t be continuing on with the series.
Full disclosure: We received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley free of charge.
This story is equal parts steamy and sweet, with a pinch of drama and a dash of complicated angst all wrapped up in a family sized packaged.
Meet Brody: Brody is a pro-footballer that has a lot riding on him. He is back to prove himself on the field and trying desperately to always be there for his little girl, Lily, after losing his wife only last year, under questionable circumstances. The paparazzi haven’t been kind and the guilt, pain and betrayal of it all is taking its toll on him.
Enter Mia: Mia’s friend offered her a job as a live in nanny right when she needed it the most. Far away from her family and the complications they bring with them, Mia is ready to start over and branch out on her own. Lily is a sweet heart and Mia falls instantly in love with the little girl. The problem? Mia is falling for Brody too.
I liked this read, it was well paced and both MCs were likable adults who had to deal with a lot of emotional baggage on both sides. Brody is definitely an alpha and has a bit of a dominate streak in him. Mia is definitely a more aggressive heroine than I’m used too. Some of the things she does to pursue Brody didn’t always sit well with me. I wish she would have stepped back, given Brody his space and let him chase her for a change. Than there was the way she dealt with her own past. My level of tolerance was definitely tested during the second half of this book but it does get better!
I loved Lily and I loved how Brody and Mia always put the little girl first. A lot of romances that deal with single parents tend to forget about the kid and have them fade into the background. Lily was a pretty well developed secondary character in this story, which was refreshing to see.
Memorable Moments:
The heat factor in this book is off the charts and full of steamy goodness :) Just gonna say that Brody has some pretty detailed fantasies and leave it at that.
I’m torn with this book. I love the premise of this book, a single dad raising his daughter and who, over time falls for the nanny, Amelia. For the most part the author gives the reader a enjoyable heartfelt book capturing the love Broady had for his daughter, Lily. We’re also given a sweet story between Amelia and Lily.
The initial chemistry between Amelia and Broady was off evident from their first meeting. Although there was an initial chemistry, which lasted throughout the book, both were hesitate to open their hearts to each other. They danced around their emotions for awhile and eventually Broady fell hard for Amelia.
My biggest problem with the book is Amelia. There were a few times I had a hard time liking her. While she was the perfect nanny for Lily, I thought she toyed with Broady’s emotions. She knew how vulnerable Brody was and chose to lie to him. I didn’t like this storyline.
From then on I was indifferent about the book. I wish these two could have worked in their relationship sooner. I did love the ending. It was cute and everything I look for in a romance novel.
Who doesn’t love a single-dad finds love again romance?? I know I sure do! And The Nanny Rules is all that and so much more!
I enjoyed the dynamic between Brody and Amelia from their meet-cute through their entire relationship. Though predictable at times, Brody and Amelia managed to forge a relationship—even though Brody vehemently denied wanting one! Amelia’s quiet strength and easy-going nature is definitely what kept them together—especially with their communication issues! Lordy there were some communication issues.
My favorite part of The Nanny Rules is Lily, Brody’s daughter. The little scene stealer is an adorable, sassy, fun little character who has her daddy wrapped right around her finger! ~ Missy, 4 stars
This was a pretty simple story. It was mostly predictable, but that's okay sometimes because a good story doesn't always have to be really unique and different, sometimes it is nice to read what you're comfortable with. It had its steamy moments between Brody and Amelia, and its sweet moments with little Lily as well. It had all the drama of back stories that made their reasons for fighting the relationship make sense. Now, I feel like some of the back stories could have been given more details earlier on in the story, without knowing some of the details it made it irritating at first when they would push each other away for what seemed like no good reason. In the end it all tied up into a nice HEA, and I loved the little family the three of them created together.
I am so disappointed by this one. I was expecting a cute and steamy single dad romance and that isn’t what this was.
With this being a character driven book, it sucks when both of them aren’t the best. Brody was terrible. He acted like a child and I was so over his tantrums. He lashed out when it came to things that he didn’t want to deal with. And goodness, he didn’t want to deal with anything. Not his terrible outlook on life, not moving on after betrayal, and especially not falling in love. This man ran from his feelings for Amelia until damn near the end of the book.
While Amelia wasn’t as terrible as Brody, she was just as confusing. One minute she didn’t want to just be a diversion and later she would just take any part of him that she could. Girl make up your mind and stick to it.
Honestly, this was basically just a whole lot of back and forth. There are so many better single dad romances out there that I would seriously skip this one.
As a huge football fan I am always hesitant and excited to read a sports romance with football as the backdrop. I thought Price did a good job incorporating it and also keeping accurate (minus the Browns winning a Super Bowl - that's pure fantasy).
I found the main characters, Amelia and Brody, likeable enough, although some of the decisions Amelia made seemed incongruent with her having a masters in psychology. As with most romances where kids are prevelant to the story, I loved Lily. She was adorable and added to the story.
However, there was nothing to separate The Nanny Rules from the hundreds of other sports romances (and romances in general) out there. Amelia and Brody have baggage that causes issues. Brody doesn't want a relationship but of course Amelia talks him into it and apparently he is incapable of controlling his urges. They fall for each other. Poorly communicate. And then there is a big gesture.
The writing isn't bad though and I really liked both Penner (Brody's teammate) and Julia (Amelia's friend and Brody's sister). I wouldn't mind seeing this be turned into a series with these two as a feature (possibly together?) and a more original plot.
Thank you to NetGalley for granting my request for an ARC of this book. The review below is entirely my own opinion.
Single-father, NFL quarterback falls in love with his daughter's nanny. I usually love sports romances and this story arc is also one I like which is why I requested this from NetGalley.
I would have to say that I enjoyed the first half, even if the plot is kind of predictable. But when we get to the part where Mia's past catches up with her, I don't understand (or like) how she handled things. Like seriously? Like, girl, what were you thinking? Clearly, you're not thinking. *rolls eyes*
If not for this lapse of judgment on Mia's part, I would've rated this higher.
I'm a very character driven reader. These characters were never real to me.
It's really hard to get to know the characters when there is too much tell and not enough show. Weeks would go by from one scene to the next with only a sentence to explain some of what happened during that time. I don't always have issues with that but I have to have already made a connection to the characters. That wasn't the case with this book. These characters are just flat words on a page that I just don't care about.
Sometimes I questions if the characters would even do something. I really don't like it when an author forces the characters into things that they just wouldn't normally do. That happened in this book. I will admit that it's hard to tell if a character is forced when you don't know them well enough to even like them. But this book is about a football player. There are some things that are just a given in that situation.
The whole set-up of the NFL star and a nanny that has a masters in Psychology is just contrived. Yeah, there's a reason given as to why she would take such a job but I'm not buying it. This NFL player has had a traumatic experience and his daughter is recovering from that. The perfect person to understand them both is someone who understands about how the mind deals with lose. So it just felt too contrived.
Pretty much could have told you where and how this story was going. Totally predictable. Well except the idea that the Browns would EVER win the Superbowl. That is just plan ridiculous. And while it was nice that everything fell into place for the ending, it just was too easy. Too predictable. Boring, really.
About the only thing I can say I enjoyed was the idea of this story playing out in the NFL. I love sports stories and football is my favorite. There was a good balance between the story and the sport.
Reading time is way to precious Skip this one.
Feel like I have read this story before but cannot remember the name of author or the work. Well anyway we have a grieving man with a daughter Lily. When Amelia arrives as Lily's nanny; Brody has trouble forming a relationship with Mia even though his daughter tells him to go for it. Characters and story with a Hallmark appeal. A copy of this book was provided by Entangled via NetGally with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."
I really enjoyed The Nanny Rules. Brody, an NFL Quarterback for the Browns, finds his sister has hired a nanny for him without discussing it first with him. So when he finds Amelia in his kitchen early one morning after coming back from off the road, he’s a little taken back. Not by the fact his sister would hire someone without discussing it with him but by the fact that she’s drop-dead gorgeous and he doesn’t know how to deal with the feelings he’s having towards her.
The attraction between the two of them is through the roof. Mia finds herself drawn to Brody, even though she knows she shouldn’t. After Brody lost his wife in an accident the previous year, he doesn’t know if he can ever trust himself with a woman again. Mia has her own set of secrets too. Yet the two of them jump headfirst into an affair…
I loved Brody and Mia together. They were magnetic and their love for Lily – Brody’s daughter was heartwarming and so special. I’m a sucker for a sports romance and this book hit all my points for a great read. I will definitely be reading more from Melynda Price in the future.
This book wasn't what I was expecting, not that it was bad but again I thought it was going tobe a little lighter. So we meet Brody who has lost his wife a year ago in an car accident where she was found in a car with one of his team mates proving that she was having an affair with him. He comes home to find Amelia a nanny whom his sister has hired. He is attracted to her but fighting it because he does not want to love and go thru suffering and betrayal again. Amelia is also attracted to Brody but really does not fight the attraction instead she seems to throw herself at him and want to convince him that he needs to let the pain go. I wanted to slap her sometimes I get that you want to help and that you like him but have a little self respect.
After losing his wife Brody is doing what he can to be a good single parent, but with his busy work and game travel schedule sometimes it's hard to be there for his daughter. He knows he needs help, but admitting that fact is something he just won't do. His sister sees him struggling and steps in and hires a nanny for his daughter Lily while he is out of town, and the moment he wanders into his home and his eyes land on Mia he knows there is going to be a problem.
She is beautiful, good with his daughter, draws him in like a moth to a flame... and that is a complication he does not need right now. But he just can't bring himself to fire her...
As soon as I started this one I knew my heart was going to be in trouble, nothing says heart-tugging tale like a wounded single father adamant on not letting anyone close again for fear of falling. I had initially planned on reading a chapter before bedtime, but I ended up getting sucked into the pages of this story and wound up staying up until the wee hours of the morning to finish it. I loved watching "the dance" between Brody and Mia unfold, they had this undeniable spark that you could feel, but both were wounded by love and were determined to keep it out... but love just wouldn't take no for answer. Really enjoyed this one, it was a charming story brimming with feels and swoons, highly recommend!
I love sports romance so I grabbed this one up when it popped up on Netgalley. Brody is a newly single father and his sister hires him a nanny to help relieve some pressure on her and give Brody piece of mind. He is not happy about this but soon realizes that he needs the help and his daughter just loves Amelia.
The story is a sweet read with just the typical angst of "I shouldn't mess with my nanny". Loved the little girl. The football that was shown seemed to be spot on although it was mostly outside of the actual story. Nothing earth shattering about the story but a nice fluff read for a summer day.
This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.
I had mixed emotions about this book. Some moments were really cute while others were predictable and not very enjoyable. We have Brody Evans, NFL quarterback and single father to the cutest 4 year old on the planet named Lily. Brody travels a lot with work so his sister Julia hires a nanny to help take care of Lily. Amelia Renshaw is the perfect fit for this family. Brody's wife Stella died in a car crash and there's a lot to her story that I won't share but this family has been through quite a lot. Lily is heartbroken that her mother is gone and Amelia is helping ease the loss by being there for her. Brody's heart is closed off from love but yet he's super attracted to his new nanny. The thing with Brody is he came off quite fickle. One minute he was all in and in the next he was guarded. I understand all that he's been through but it became quite frustrating to constantly have this back and forth.
One thing I will say is that Brody is an excellent father. Seeing him bonding with Lily was the absolute cutest thing ever. My heart would flutter every time he called her Lily pad or read her stories.
This story was quite fast paced. More so than I would've liked if I'm being honest. Brody and Amelia meet and there's instant attraction/lust. From there it's a lot of back and forth on Brody's end that I mentioned previously. Poor Amelia has whiplash from it all and I don't blame her. Although I will say, Amelia seemed to want a commitment way too early on. She's has a masters in child psychology so you'd think she would understand all that this family has been through. Moving on won't come easy or quickly.
While parts of this story were predictable, I still really enjoyed it overall.
This was kind of a hard read. Amelia is supposed to have gone to school for psychotherapy for children who suffered PTSD yet the whole time it felt like she was taking advantage of this little girl and her father who she ends up with.
Brody was super effed up and honestly this guy gave up more than Amelia did for them to be together.
They both toss each other around the ringer but yeah its one of those HEA ones.
I think this book has the bones to be good, but overall it felt like it was missing information. I know one of the characters said she had emotional whiplash and honestly, that’s how I felt throughout this book. The story went from one misunderstanding to the next, and I never really felt the connection between the characters. That being said, I think the basics of the story were strong, and I think with a good edit, this book could be really good.
2.5+ “Not what I was expecting” Stars
Having read and enjoyed some of Ms. Price’s MMA fighters books, I was more than delighted when I had the chance to snag an ARC copy of The Nanny Rules. I mean, a professional football player/single dad who falls for the live-in nanny? It was like this was meant to be!
Amelia was sweet and caring and could have some funny moments. I just couldn’t understand most of her decisions regarding her past and withholding that information, which led to me wanting to slap some sense into her many, many times.
Brody was mostly dreamy, but my favorite part in this type of story is the Daddy-daughter bond and since huge chunks of time would be skipped over, I didn’t really get to witness this. Also, he had a tendency to overreact that was not attractive, like, at all.
Unfortunately, I wanted to like the book more than I actually did. My main issue was that there was a lot of telling instead of showing, especially in the beginning. This made it difficult for me to really connect with the characters and make me feel their chemistry. Also, most of the obstacles they had to overcome felt completely forced
The Nanny Rules was overall a sweet romance with a great premise but it was more of a miss then for me. I did enjoy some parts of it and I can’t say I didn’t like it in a general way, I was just expecting it to totally wow me.
I loved this story! There was so much sweetness and love throughout, along with great sexual tension and then sexy times. Brody is a quarterback. He and his daughter have been through a loss of a wife and mother, but Brody is suffering from more than the loss but also betrayal. He has a hard time accepting and trusting people into his life. Amelia is his daughter's new nanny and is an educated women who has had her share of family problems and is trying to make a difference in others lives with her career choice. And then you have Lily, the little girl who is the bright spot in both their lives. This is a quick read that gave me lots of feels. The characters are well developed and my heart ached at times for each one of them. I couldn't get enough of this quarterback, his Lily pad, and his new love of turtle shorts. This was my first time reading a book by Melynda Price and I know I'll be looking forward to more.
Don’t Mess With The Nanny!!
Brody is a star quarterback dealing with raising a daughter, the loss of his wife (along with her secrets) and trying to get his team to the Super Bowl. He needs a nanny to help with Lily, who is always first on his list, but he doesn’t expect Mia…she looks nothing like Mrs. Doubtfire especially when the first time he sees her she’s in her booty shorts.
Mia is not only the nanny but her background is in phycology and she is trying to help little Lily with her mom’s passing. Brody has given up on love since he was burned so badly by his wife but that doesn’t stop his mind and body from wanting Mia. Only thing is everyone knows that you don’t mess around with the nanny. The chemistry is sizzling. Will all three of them be able to make it out with their hearts in tack?
The Nanny Rules by Melynda Price was a quick read with a bit of a forbidden romance. Brody is a widower who loves his daughter above all else. With a broken heart and no faith in love, he is determined to never love again. Enter Amelia. The nanny hired by his sister to help him during the season, as a top NFL player, he has a very demanding career. But Amelia stirs something in him and no matter how much he wants to deny it, he is falling for her.
Amelia loves working for Brody and his daughter. But what she never expected was to fall for her boss. Can they enjoy each other without getting feelings involved? With his heartbreak and her past, do they even have a chance? Do they follow the rules or risk it all? A quick and steamy read!
