Darling, It's Me
Fiery, feminist and funny, Darling, Its Me is the first collection by Norwich-based writer and academic Alison Winch. Winch combines refreshing explorations of marriage and motherhood with re-imaginings of Chaucers Wife of Bath and rebuttals to the 'great' (male) philosophers of the Enlightenment. Fusing philosophical interrogation with humour and pop cultural resonances, Darling, Its Me plots new ground for confessional poetry.

A wonderfully original, intelligent, energetic debut--I'm sure I'll be recommending it widely

“The sexy doom of the split / is like falling in love and a stay of execution.” So writes Alison Winch in ‘Eastbourne’, one of many incredible poems in her collection Darling, It’s Me, which shook me to my core (hyperbole intended). I love a poet who can write something so pithy and yet abstract, that calls out to me (/calls me out), and Winch is exactly that kind of poet, her use of analogy and imagery and dialogue so elastic and torturously relatable. This weird and funny and brilliant collection (“straining for a kiss / over the colossal exhaust”) is a must-read for 2019 poetry and the strongest claim to excellence for Alison Winch.
