What do you think?

How Many Pizzas Are On Venus?
My book of 100 poems.
A sample of one of my poems:
My PoemsHere is my book of poems,
Full of truths and lies—it’s up to you to decide.
But if you can read between the lines,
You will know what’s going on in my mind.
Now, some of my poems are full of love and hate,
And some are about trust and, of course, lust.
Some are written with words that even I don’t understand,
They come from the heart, and some are just from listening.
Not bad for someone who never learned to read, write, or spell.
So when you read the words within, try not to judge too hard,
‘Cause sometimes, I am not dealing with a full deck of cards.
The words mostly come to me as I lie down in my bed;
I have to wake up and write them down to get them out of my head.
My mind never seems to rest, it’s like it’s on its own quest.
Sometimes there’s more than one voice talking in my head,
But it’s okay, they will rest when I am dead.
I think I write these words down,
So that I will not leave this world without a trace.
‘Cause when I am gone,Who will remember my face?

I won a digital copy of this book through a giveaway hosted on GoodReads.
The more of How Many Pizzas Are On Venus, the more I wished I could learn more about poet Scot MacKinnon as a person. They are obviously a very creative individual. The poems within this book display a wide range of subjects, skill levels, and voices. Some are from obviously male voices, others female, and many could be from any gender. Some narrators are lucky in love, others not so much. Some are deeply religious, others seem very liberal in their opinions, and still other outright corrupt if not fully criminal. They come city dwellers, country dwellers, and everywhere in between. In the first poem, MacKinnon asks readers to read between the lines, but the more I thought about the words I read, the more difficult the life and personality of the creator was to pin down. The poems do have a fairly simple voice to them, beginning with short poems with a lyric-like refrain every few lines, though the maturity of the writing improves over time, as if this were a portfolio of the writer’s work over time. The emotions shown in them are very deep, however, showing that these are not the work of a mere child or student. MacKinnon has experienced life, though their academic ability does not seem to match up to the average levels of persons of the same level, pointing to either a difficult upbringing that did allow them to pursue creative avenues until they were far out of school, and as there are a number of poems that allude to or directly mention abuse, I cannot help but worry about which poems may be pulled from their actual life instead of their creative mind. Regardless of what experiences these pieces came from, or what kind of life the author leads, the poems are interesting and thought-provoking to read, and if have a few dollars to spare, this humble collection seems like a great investment for even casual poetry readers.

I have to be honest but I don’t read a lot of poetry. Because I sometimes find it hard to understand and identify with. I entered this giveaway in hopes that I’d win and to try something new to read. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading these poems. These poems were funny, smart, intense, sad, and sometimes a little confusing. After reading this book I think I might attempt to read more poetry. Thank you!

I received my copy of "How Many Pizzas Are On Venus" for free in a Goodreads Giveaway.
A cursive font was chosen for this book of poetry which renders it all but unreadable. The choice likely resulted from the desire to make the poems look as well as read like a diary of inner musings.
The poetry is infantile, the font unreadable. I recommend giving this book a skip. Perhaps a different format would make the collection more palatable.

First of all; it is so very clear that this book is written with so much love and so much passion. This is author's way of putting his emotions and life into the pages of a book and sharing it with the world.
That being said, I did not enjoy it. The font made it hard to read, the author used the word "baby" wayyyyy too much, and there wasn't any sort of rhyme or reason to the order of the poems. Sometimes they would be about his life and the love he wanted/needed/didn't get/did get, but then there would be these random poems about Vegas? And about cats on pirate ships? Very confusing.
There is a ton of rhyming, but then sometimes it would randomly not rhyme? I just don't get it. Also the sugar daddy thing.... what was that? Is he the sugar daddy?

I liked the title of the book, and thought it was creative. The poem "Fly On Your Eye" was my favorite poem from the book. It really pulled on my heart strings, and I highlighted a few passages.
I enjoyed the rhyming style of poetry found throughout the book. One thing I didn't like is how some of the poems were more like songs, and kept repeating things over and over like the chorus of a song would do. It felt repetitive after a while. Ignoring the authors name (since many names are androgynous these days) In reading the book there are times where I couldn't tell if the poem was written by a male or female. Some are written from the others perspective so it was a little confusing.
The book length was good and made it something I could finish off in one sitting, or if I wanted to read each poem individually I could. I felt like the poetry had been written by a high school or college aged person. The vocabulary wasn't difficult to read, but the subject matter is geared towards adults. That being said the wording seems more childish, it makes it hard to tell how old the author is. It would be nice to have more of a bio on the author as well. Social media pages are place holders / vague, and book does not have a bio either.
I know writing can be very cathartic, so perhaps this book of poems for the author is just that. If that's the case I wish them the best on their path.
Overall ended up being not for me.

Thank you, author Scot MacKinnon for this digital copy of How Many Pizzas Are On Venues, I received through a Goodreads giveaway, in exchange for an honest review.
I’ll admit I’m not big on poetry, but I did like many of these poems. Their topics range from relationships -broken and ongoing, issues happening in the world, destructive behavior, to self-love; a well range of topics. For a book of 100 poems, it kept my interest and I read this fairly quickly. My favorite poems and a handful that stood out to me are:
Light In
Crazy or Insane
My Mind
Light Inside
Maze
Baudelaire Blues
Peace and Tranquility
Love Yourself First
*just a disclaimer: Some profanity is used within this poet’s work.
Just before the last two poems the author leaves a disclaimer for those who are easily offended, this is one thing I appreciate.
I give this a 3/5 ⭐

Stories that rhyme
A great collection of poems that rhyme, something that is not easily accomplished I might add, so bravo to the writer. Some stories were simple and to the point, others thought provoking and some even sinister. I enjoyed reading them a great deal. There where some repeating concepts that the author focused on, such as light and Vegas, perhaps they were of importance to the writer that they needed to cover these themes more than once through their writings. A solid book of poems that I recommend to be read. I received this book as a part of a Goodreads giveaway.

Poetry. And I read it!
You write what you know, especially in poetry and this book includes a variety of life experiences. since this isn’t my normal read, I skimmed a few of the poems and enjoyed many of them.
There are many adult and serious ones but lots of light hearted ones including lots of the Vegas poems. I am an out door girl so one of my favorites was “Crunchy”. There are also poems written just for kids in the know like “Baudelaire Blues “.
The formatting looked great on my iPhone btw.

I've never really read modern poetry, but I enjoyed this collection. Some poems were definitely more up my alley than others, particularly those that told a story. The author's mind must move in so many directions all at once, because the poems really ran the gamut. I would recommend this even to people who don't normally read poetry, but be warned that there are also some topics that might be difficult or offensive to the reader.

The font was extremely difficult to read which set the tone for the content of the book. I read the first few poems and skimmed over the rest. They seem to be quite juvenile and best left in a teenage diary. While I appreciate the effort that went into the writing, this book is not ready for prime time. I think the author will find a certain audience and have a good run with that genre of people. I won’t be in it.

It took me longer than it should have to realize this was a book of poems told through different people and genders and perspectives which was kind of nice since I read a lot of poetry books and haven't come across one like this before. Some of the poems were deep and thought provoking, others... I did not enjoy (possibly the few with misspellings).

It just wasn’t for me.
I’m an avid reader of poetry and absolutely love modern poetry as well. I found it difficult to really get a flow from most of these. There were some lines that did stand out and I appreciated though. The poems do have a very simplistic tone to them with rhymed format.

A few choice verses. Warning given for the last couple of poems due to their sexual nature. Not much of a poetry reader, but a nice collection.

From life
Sounds a lot like life, very hard for some and to easy for others! Loved Light inside... and
Ashes and Memories, not sure about referring it to clay but it’s how someone else sees it.

Poems written with a lot of raw emotion. My favorites are “the test” and “city lights” and “sugar daddy” gave me a laugh. The author gives a warning about reading the last 2 poems if you are easily offended.... I liked them!

This was a free book I won. I likely would not have purchased it, but it has been a refreshing experience. I enjoyed the variety of poems, the crisp language, and the rhythm of them. MacKinnon is light years from Robert Burns, and he is much more smooth.

I started reading and it took a while to accept the book was written In poetry. Most were frustrations or rather depressing topics. I am not sure I would recommend it. But it did make its statements even though it was thru poetry.

I love how this book of poems or “songs” celebrates language. However, the eclectic collection is so all-over-the-place in terms of its tone and content that I couldn’t manage a close reading of it.
Thank you to Scot MacKinnon and Goodreads Giveaways for my copy.

Thank you for the giveaway from Goodreads.
You will not find poetry on my to read list. This book piqued my interest and I was not disappointed. So many subjects, lyrical in many ways. i thought of different artists who may produce a song with the poetry that Scot has written. I highly recommend.

Maybe rhyming poems just aren't for me. The book almost feels like it's directed at kids, but the content material is definitely not. Some of the concepts were great, but I couldn't get past the rhyme scheme.
Also, "Triangle Pie" is the worst thing I've ever heard.

Not a bad read. I'd like to see more from the poet, but the titles draw me in for some pieces more than the actual piece. Great flow to the writing.

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this on Goodreads. Thank you!
I do not normally get a chance to read a book of poems, but I try to read things that are new to me or out of my comfort zone. This is light reading, but interesting. You can read a few poems at a time, or read a whole bunch.
Good luck to Scott MacKinnon and thank you for the opportunity to read your book.
