John Patterson has always been a loner. At a young age, he left behind his Colorado home for the adventure and isolation of the Himalayas. But after years spent building his reputation in the climbing circuit, his heroic rescue of an inexperienced climber on Everest results in the loss of his leg.
Michelle Bonheur still blames herself for the car accident that killed her husband Adam two years ago. Since Adam’s death, Michelle’s life has been career-focused, and lonely. When her best friend Cam convinces her that the two should fulfill Adam’s dream of hiking the Himalayas, Michelle reluctantly accepts.
As John and Michelle’s paths converge in Nepal, they navigate the winding mountain trails together and discover they’re not alone in their grief, the guilt they carry, or their attraction to each other.
When disaster strikes one morning on the Annapurna circuit, the two wounded souls find themselves in peril, and Michelle makes a decision that will change both of their lives.
I write character driven stories that are placed in far away places that delve into the human condition, the things we do to survive, and to find meaning in our lives. The Nepal stories are based on my time there over the last ten years, and they strive to give the reader a glimpse of this fragile, yet beautiful and harsh land the people live in. You'll find a multitude of different characters in them, not only from Nepal, but from other places in the world that tell how and why they came there, and how the land and people affected their lives and changed them for ever.
The first of these Nepali books is, "THE LION OF KHUM JUNG", which is set in the Himalayas where I did charity work for The Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation. The story tells not only about the scaling of these mountains, but also of why these men and women do it, and the human costs that are waged upon them. It's a story of confronting demons as well coming through hardship and past decisions that torment the characters. A finalist in the Syracuse Downtown Writer's Book of the Year Awards in 2014, it is available in paperback, kindle and audiobook format.
The second book in this series, "On My Way to You, is a story about two damaged people from different worlds coming together on the Annapurna Circuit that circumnavigates the great Annapurna Massifs. It occurs during what is known as the 'Annapurna Circuit Disaster in 2014' that stranded over two hundred hikers during a freak blizzard. The hero, John, and heroine, Michelle, find themselves thrown together, and in their struggle to survive, they discover the damage they carry inside them also has the capacity to heal another.
The newest release is, 'The Himalayan' (NEXT CHAPTER), which goes back to Frank and Sarah's story in, "The Lion of Khum Jung" (NEXT CHAPTER) and in it, I dig down into their past and reveal the hidden world of the Tibetan culture. It's available on Amazon in Kindle, paperback, and soon to be in audiobook format through (NEXT CHAPTER)
Currently, I'm working on the last book of this series that dives into the world of Kathmandu during the 2015 Earthquakes that rocked the country. In this book, I delve into the tragic and ugly world of human trafficking that has been a lingering problem in this tiny country for decades, if not for centuries. I'm a little past the half way point in the first draft at the moment, and hope to have it available by the middle of 2021. Check out my website at: rjbaglierre.com, for updates and other books I have available on Amazon through NEXT CHAPTER PUBLISHING. And if you like pictures of where I've been you can go to the photography section on the site as well. I also offer a lot of other goodies there, too!
Michelle and her best friend, Cam, leave Cornwall, Ontario and head to Nepal. It is Cam’s idea that they hike the Himalayas in memory of Michelle’s husband, Adam, who died in a car accident two years earlier.
John Patterson, still bitter from the accident on Everest that left him an amputee, struggles with his future as a hiking guide. Before the accident that took his leg, he was one of the best on the climbing circuit.
I was excited to learn about this book as I truly enjoyed The Lion of Khum Jung. While this story is not a continuation, it does have some of the same wonderful characters.
Ronald Bagliere weaves a great fictional tale amongst real-life tragedies on and around Everest. His characters are believable with many layers and the story is well-written.
I enjoyed this first book of the Hearts of Nepal series and look forward to reading the next one.
I am deeply inspired by Ron's character development skills and the way he intertwines interesting facts with imagination in his novels. His unique writing style draws you into the story with ease and keeps you turning page after page. This author creates truly enjoyable delicacies of literature for your feasting pleasure. I also highly recommend the second book in this series, The Himalayan!
If you enjoyed The Lion of Khum Jung, you’ll enjoy On My Way To You. Ron Bagliere has delivered another story set in the same world as Khum Jung, and explores the life of John Patterson, who appeared in that book. John paid a heavy price doing the right thing in the events of that book, and On My Way To You explores his life in the time following that, and the events and family history that shaped his character before his life in Nepal.
As in The Lion of Khum Jung, Bagliere skillfully combines adventure and romance, and the settings and life history that made John the complex and fully realized character he is. Bagliere does what authors do, and provides John with new and unexpected challenges which force him to examine who and what he thought he was, and what he might yet be.
Michelle and her friend Cam go from Canada to Nepal to hike in the Himalayas. Michelle meets John. This book is a wonderful combination of romance and adventure, and it has something for everyone. The author is great at capturing the emotions of his characters as they are revealed in their conversations with each other. You will feel like you’re there as his descriptions bring the settings to life. He accurately portrays the customs of the Nepalese people, and other details like the food and the climate. I have been to Nepal, and this book made me feel like I was back there again.
This is a real adventure from beginning to end. From the tragic personal struggles of the two main characters to the difficult Himalayan trek ahead of them, the author has successfully wrapped the story up with great skill. I felt extremely enlightened about the lives of the Sherpas in Nepal & in several chapters had to take a moment to digest the details as they sunk in. Bagliere has done a superb job of creating a story around a topic that he obviously loves & is incredibly knowledgeable about. Five stars.
I enjoyed the story line as well as the twists and turns it takes. Although the story of the event was embellished, the basis of the event was an eye opener. The events that the folks of Nepal go through season to season is challenging to say the least. Ron has certainly opened my eyes to a simple yet difficult life of the Sherpa people. It was intriguing to follow the characters lives and their trials and tribulations.
A good adventure romance taking place in Nepal within the climbing community. I had no knowledge about the history of disasters within the country, not only in the mountains, but also the small villages and farmlands. The disaster in this book was completely mind boggling and was based on actual events although fictionalized.
Really enjoyed this book. Love reading Nepal stories, and whilst this one was not based on Everest it was no less harrowing when the storm of the century hits. But amongst the disaster love managed to seep through and change the world's of some. Yeah, great read😊
The first half of the book was very slow and I kept confusing different characters as there were a lot of names. However, once they started the trek it did get very exciting and I enjoyed reading it.
This is an adventure romance. The details about life in the mountains of Nepal made it very interesting. However I empathised with the characters a bit too much!!
A enjoyable read that was predictable from the beginning. The story was interesting with several characters. John and Michelle’s venture keeps you wanting to continue reading. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
