My father is the alpha, a mantle my unborn brother will take one day. But as daughter of the alpha, my role isn’t yet certain. My heart is set on becoming the beta, I want to show our kind that a female can be just as strong as any other wolf, without needing a mate to protect her.But when my father is called to help a neighboring pack, suddenly everything changes. I’m thrown into a world of intrigue, deadly plots, and a fight for power. As a female who never wanted or needed a mate, I now find myself torn between two males. One, the leader. The other, an untamed wolf.Either way, taking a mate requires submission, and it’s not in my nature to submit. But no matter how hard I try to fight it, it seems my fate has already been decided.
Rebecca is an Author, musician and singer/song writer based in Alyth, Scotland. She lives with her dog, Molly, spending her time travelling the Highlands, playing music with friends and family, and writing to her hearts content in a mix of genres.
Coming from a family of musicians, she spent much of her childhood absorbing the sounds of traditional music while touring Scotland, and descending from the country's travelling folk, a culture steeped in history and stories, gave her a keen interest in times gone by.
You'll most likely find Rebecca relaxing with shows like The Witcher or Game of Thrones on, and movies like Star Wars or What We Do in the Shadows, but she'll never be far from her laptop of phone in case inspiration strikes. Whether it be historical fiction, paranormal romance, or fantasy, she believes there should always be a little bit of magic somewhere.
I would actually give this book a 3.5 star rating but Goodreads doesn't allow for that so I rounded it up because, in the end, I would recommendthe story. This book began a little slow for me and I don't really like dominating males and the roles of females type books. However, I wanted to give this book a fair shot and so I kept an open mind.
I will start with the negative. I hated the way the MC was referred to as "alpha female" and "female" but not enough to put the book away. I chose to ignore this piece and carry on reading.
The MC did act short tempered which came off as childish. Her partner telling her to "settle" and regularly threatening to punish her was condescending and unacceptable to me. I did not want her to act childish but she also needed to be treated with respect.
I wish I would have seen more character growth in the MC but that is possible in future books. For example, she could start off childish and grow into a great Luna. I hated that the MC was always forced to "obey" the Alpha. That's not what I personally want to see in a strong female character!
Ok now the positives. Rourke was starting to grow on me in the end. I saw some of his intentions and it made his character appear to be redeemable to me. I know this book hints at a love triangle but there isn't one... well, not really. I hate to admit it because I usually complain when I see love triangles but I was kind of rooting for the other guy. Rourke grew on me but I liked the other guy from the start.
As much as I took issue with what I listed above, I cannot deny that I stayed up late and read the whole book at one sitting. I liked the development of some of the minor characters. I want to know more about Quillan. The plot was interesting. It caught my attention and I cared about the characters. There is a well crafted hook at the end that actually has me wanting to read the next book.
Anyway, I got into the story and I want to read the sequel. Overall, if you like shifter books, I would recommend.
I haven’t read a shifter book in ages and after reading Way of The Wolf I want to read more shifter books. I really enjoyed this book, to say this is the authors debut book it was amazing. Her writing style pulled me into the story and made me want to keep reading.
The story is really interesting, it wasn’t just a shifter romance but there’s a element of suspense and mystery thrown in.
Cathwulf is an amazing character, you see her struggles with being with a new pack and leaving her old pack behind. She’s a really strong character and I loved the strong female characters that the other thrown in.
There was a bit of a love triangle thrown in as well and I’m not sure how I felt about that to be honest. I really liked Cathwulf and Roarke together but we will have to see how their relationship grows in the next book.
Anyone who is a lover of shifter romance books needs to pick up Way of the Wolf!
It has been a hot minute since I've had a paranormal romance to review much less a shifter romance! Now, I will be honest, I go into shifter romances with a bit of trepidation. They are either extremely well done or horrifically awful. There is no in between.
Thankfully Ms. Stewart's release Way of the Wolf was firmly in the former category. As well as having a touch of "girl power" that I adore seeing in any book.
Cathwulf wants to be the beta in her pack. A leader to her people. A girl who sets her own rules and only mates with who she wants, when she wants.
I need to pause here and say that this is where I see the author doing something right. She shows an inner turmoil in Cathwulf between her human side (aka "skins") and her Wulver clan. Her pack. Her family.
And her alpha Roarke.
But nothing is ever just as simple and as easy as boy meets girl. Even when the boy and girl are actually wolves. Throw in a twist of fate that take her beloved parents out of the picture and throw her pack and her world into chaos and add in one feral, untamed wolf that has caught Cathwulf's eye and you have a recipe for a fabulous novel.
I can't close out this review without emphatically stating one thing: THIS ENDS IN A CLIFFHANGER! If y'all know anything about me you know that I am not a fan of surprise cliffhangers. But fear not, this is only book one in the series and there are sure to be more on the way to answer ALL THE QUESTIONS I have.
If you love paranormal shifter romances with a badass heroine and a love triangle twist, you need to grab a copy of Way of the Wolf: Ascension today!
A pack of wolves on the far eastern border of Ireland are going to a different pack to help smooth over a new Alpha’s rule. All should go well, but it doesn’t and that’s where this book gets good.
There were times I laughed and times I got a little irritated. Cathwulf is very stubborn. She has her way of doing things and won’t deviate. She’s seen things and isn’t willing to change her thoughts. But then she meets Roark. I liked how the author treated the characters with dignity and a deft hand. The author does something different than most shape shifter books by having wolves touch cheeks to get each other’s scent.
There were a few things that I thought could be changed. I thought some of her stubbornness could have been toned down. I would have liked to see her come to understand that her feelings for Roark were deep. I would have liked to see her support him more in the major decisions he has to make. Also, the ending was very abrupt. I was reading along and then suddenly there was the glossary. My poor pets were surprised as I shouted, “What the heck?!”
Otherwise this was an interesting story where the I enjoyed how the author gave us a peek into a real wolf pack. She gave us a different approach to wolf shifters. The characters were extremely well developed. The plot could have been fleshed out more, but it was still interesting. If you want a good shifter book to keep you busy during this time, then this book is for you.
I got across this book after hearing some good reviews from my friends. The story flowed smoothly but also compelled me to read further. The brilliance of the author is in the plot, slowly unravelling it and making us crave for more. There was a murder of Alpha couple and the criminal is unknown. The plot goes on from this to what else is the unknown capable of and of course why is he doing this. A suspense that I craved to decode.
I loved the emotional and moral battles within the female lead. Loved how soon the couple could accept their mistakes instead of letting it create toxic environment to them and the others around them. Prolonged fights are a No for me and this book made me love it more by letting the protagonists understand and tackle their issues showing the maturity of them.
I loved her imagination and the way she's described the places, things and colors in scenes which added more life to a story to visualize. There were many instances which made me appreciate the non clichè-ness of the book, like the restaurant scene where the waitress doesn't ogle the lead Male or crave for his attention or men doing the same for the female lead.
There's a specific character I'm looking forward to read about. What happened, why is he this way, will he tackle his wolf issues and who will he choose as his mate are constant thoughts now. I'm super excited to see what happens next.

This introduction into the The Wulvers Series is loaded with everything I would expect from a shifter story. Rebecca Stewart has hit the ground running with this debut. The story is told from our heroine's perspective, and while I found her likable, Cathwulf drove me a little crazy with her back and forth about Roarke. And that is the only real drawback for me, especially since it comes up fairly often. Given the circumstances, I understood it in the beginning, but Cathwulf is such a strong character that it just didn't feel right after a while. That aside, the story kept me turning pages with a solid mix of mystery and danger for some fascinating characters. This is the beginning of a continuing story, so we do get a cliffy with plenty of unanswered questions. I for one will be waiting impatiently for the answers to those questions, and I definitely want more of the intriguing world the author has created.
Wow, I loved this book. I am a fan of the shifter story and I loved this one. The strong female protagonist Cathwulf is fierce and strong struggling in a world dominated by alpha wolves. She has her heart set on becoming the beta, but there's a power struggle at play. Fate gives her two possible mates, one a stranger, one an unruly wolf, but either way she has to submit, which is not in her nature. The story catches you right from the first page and draws you into the paranormal world. I am eager to read book 2!
I absolutely love shifter books, and was so excited to read this. I'm so glad that I did because it was incredible. Cathwulf was determined to become beta of the pack. She wants to set her own rules, not be forced into a mating she didn't want. She fights back, but when things go south, she's forced to do what she needs. How does it all play out?? One click and find out because you'll read this book in one sitting!! So good! It's exactly the shifter story I've been craving for a while.
I really enjoyed this first story in the Wulvers series. I like Rebecca's take on the shifter/werewolf genre - it's different to the normal fated mates plots.
I found Cathwulf a really relatable character - she has her own hopes and plans for her future, but there's certain expectations of her as a Wulver which she must face as she meets Alpha Roarke and his pack.
Looking forward to the next book and the rest of the series.
Omg I absolutely loved this shifter romance. I think this book does what few others in the genre does and thats make you feel the wolf. Reading it I felt my inner wolf vying to get out and play with the pack. The split between wolf and human felt more 50/50 I also liked the characters and the dynamics. The plot was intriguing and I can’t wait to read more and find out what happened / what will happen Highly highly recommend
In one word just amazing. Followed this author on Inkitt and just could not wait to read this book. I just could not stop reading it. The plot is amazing and it definitely is not you cliche werewolf story. I love the way she writes and I read the complete book in just one day. The books also reads very easily and can’t wait to read the other parts in te series :) I fell absolutely in love with the characters.
She’s resisted so many things in pack life. Now going away to meet a potential suitor has her on edge. This wasn’t the path she expected her life to lead although she knew it could happen. Now she has to start again in the midst of turmoil. This is an excellent story. The cliffhanger is a bit of a bummer.
The storyline was one I connected to right away. The more I read the better it got. The female lead had to adjust to a new chapter in her life. She did not want to do it, but it was necessary. There were a lot of things that happened, that by the end of the book she accepted the new direction it had taken.
What an incredible read! Cathwulf knows what she wants and can do it alone. Her inner strength and courage to fight against the pressures of her culture is inspiring. This is the first book in a long time that has truly gripped me. I am so excited for book 2 in August!
I don’t know what it is, but I love shifter books and this was no exception. The author used great descriptions to make you feel the struggle the protagonist was going through. I am anxious for book 2. I would be interested to know if this author has any other published works.
We meet a female wolf who feels pressured into this trip. She ends ip with a mate she dosent want. Will they solve the bad things that ate happening? Whats to happen next?
Shifter books seem to be the same story line each time but with this author she takes that idea and puts twists in it.Very refreshing. It leaves you wanting more. Excellent series! A must read!
I loved this book from beginning to end, the story flow really well and I couldn't put it down. The characters I fell in love with, and I am so excited for more!
Absolutely loved the story and characters in this book! I love that unlike most werewolf stories, the author actually incorporates real wolf traits and dynamics to what I think a werewolf pack would actually be like. I loved it so much I read it in one day. I couldn’t put it down lol
If you love Alpha males and strong lead female characters this is the book for you!
Wow!!! What a gr8 story. It's a different kind of werewolf story but a good story none the less. I look forward to reading more of this series. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
A truly enjoyable book, I was drawn in from the first paragraph and it became even better as the book progressed. I look forward to the next book in this series and the next, and the next and so on..... Really enjoyable storyline. Thank you Rebecca Chewie
