Desperate to thwart their ultimate foe, Tallis and her army sail for Selkirk. Urban has the advantage, however, as he has the lead and a maniacal determination to unlock a holy power capable of destroying the world. Tallis and Tomas have not stepped foot in Selkirk in over a year, having fled once the elves were free of their madness.
Rosslyn had warned them of the growing civil unrest, but it did not prepare them for what they would face upon landfall in Kincardine. Low on resources, Tallis finds herself caught between two princes vying for the throne, and a cruel queen who is tempted by Urban's fanatical allure, just as Konrad was. Now, Tallis must convince those who once hunted her to aid her, for if they do not work together, all of Selkirk will burn. Urban is unlike any enemy they have ever faced; he knows all too well what Tallis is capable of, and how to manipulate the venomous voice within her.
Everything is at stake for Tallis-the fate of Selkirk, her friends and loved ones, and her own soul. Urban will exploit those perceived weaknesses, making Tallis choose whom to save; for nothing will stop Urban on his quest to bring back his silent god as he enacts the long dreaded prophecy. Tallis and her friends are coming to the end of their journey, one that will prove to the world once and for all who is the true monster of Selkirk.
C. E. Clayton is the author of young adult fantasy series, “The Monster of Selkirk”, the creator of the award winning cyberpunk Eerden Novels, and her horror short stories have appeared in anthologies across the country. By signing up for her newsletter, you'll immediately get a free novella set in the Eerden universe! She'd also be thrilled if you followed her on Instagram and liked her bookish and pet photos, and Amazon where you can get updates on her new releases. When she’s not writing you can find her treating her fur-babies like humans, constantly drinking tea, and trying to convince her husband to go to more concerts. And reading. She does read quite a bit.
The Wrath of Silence, my dear friends, is a culmination of years of hard work, countless late nights, buckets of tears wondering if this is good enough, followed by days of: am I good enough? Will they hate me for doing that? Did I tell it right? I don't think I have an answer for those questions, but I hope you do come the final page.
I will always love Tallis and her bravery, her steadfastness to do the right thing despite not wanting the responsibility. I will forever cherish Tomas's brilliance, his kindness, his unwavering love. I will endlessly admire Rosslyn's wit, her unconquerable spirit, her jokes and ability to drink most people under the table. It was a joy to write Colben's innocence, Chrandrelle's wise - and crass - metaphors, and to always have Donovan around in some capacity. But, I am not a fan of things that never end, and so this is the end. Which I know sounds terribly ominous and I'm sorry but, well, you'll see.
This is a series that is always going to be dear to me, but I have grown as a writer so, SO much since The Duality of Nature was born. I have learned more of the craft, been taught and mentored by wonderful editors, some of which are no longer with us but whose guiding hand I still turn to. My voice as a writer has grown and evolved, and that means that things are not the same as they were when I first started shaping the land of Selkirk four books ago, and I hope that's ok. Selkirk the place has not changed, I promise, but my characters have grown up, as have I.
I can't express how happy and humbled I am that you have come with me this far. Congratulations! We did it! I am beyond proud of the work I have put out into the world, and I hope you enjoyed it! I hope I did all my characters justice come the last page and that I, indeed, "told it right".
*Sigh of contentment* This last MOS book was absolutely satisfying. The crew comes full circle, returning to Selkirk to try and stop Urban and to finally settle the elf-human/political unrest. Tallis spends the book fighting: fighting for allies/support, fighting her foes, and fighting her inner demons. But don't worry, as we all know by now, Tallis is one hell of a fighter. Ultimately, Clayton does right by Tallis and I felt pleased with where her character ends up. While I want to know more about what Tallis will do next (of course-- I'm invested in her future!!), all good things must come to an end and MOS is no different. Tomas has matured through the series and is officially 'all grows up'. I don't think he even stammered in this book! Again, Clayton has done right by him, and I almost feel like a proud parent myself. As for Roselyn, she was dealing with a lot, which really flew in the face of her fun-loving spirit and tendency to keep things light. I think we can look back and say that this is was her character needed in order to grow up, as well. And finally, I was left with a great feeling of hope for Colben. There is this one part at the end of the book...I won't give it away but I totally welled up! The feels!
Thank you, CE Clayton! I loved this series and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next!
Oh, Clayton, you genius you ;)! So, please, nobody judge this book in contrast to how long this took me to read and review! 2020 has been an absolute chicken coop floor, if you catch my drift-both for the world and me personally. Onto the review!
Loved this book. So. MUCH! Beautiful end that brought forth the struggles of the characters, discovering truths and strengths, and the ending was perfect. The progression was easy to follow, an excellent pace mixed with action and insight, and I've so desired finishing this book to see its fruition, and not disappointed. Thank you, C.E. Clayton, for writing such a Wonderful series! I cannot praise you enough in your ability to weave this wonderful story, and will share it every chance I get. The ability to see your writing flourish and your growth as a writer has been awe-inspiring to say the least, and these characters have left me feeling happy-something that's been lacking lately.

Review: I really loved this book! I thought the book was a good ending to an amazing series! The book had a satisfying ending, the characters kept getting well developed throughout the book series and even in this last book. The writing was well done and the book was fast paced. The world building was marvelous as ever and I really felt content with this book.
The only issue I had was that the book has a TON of fight scenes and sometimes in fight scenes I get a bit confused as to who is doing what. The fight scenes got a bit chaotic for me, but they were well built for the most part.
