A.I. Destiny #1

Admiral of Gaia

Rate this book
The Duchy of Hunter's Run has moved to the Gaia galaxy. But without its Duke.

Twenty five billion people have appeared in the Gaia system unexpectedly, and only one person knows how or why.

Yet preparations for fifteen billion exist, but only one person remembers the work being done.

The one who knows, and the one who remembers, are the same, but Jane is not human.

So good is she at hiding being an Artificial Intelligence, no-one knows except her fellow AI's.

To her falls the responsibility for guiding Humanity as they come to terms with not knowing where they are.

The how and why seem simple to her, but twenty five into fifteen doesn’t fit, and humans don’t tend to get along when crowded together.

It really isn’t her problem, and yet, Jane feels obligated to make things work.

Humanity needs to spread out again, so who stays and who goes? But is there somewhere to go to?

The galaxy doesn’t know about Humans yet, and they have their own problems. Human problems collide with Alien problems, with Jane in the middle.

For Jane, everything is new.

She's no longer the hero's side-kick, but is in her own right, the Admiral of Gaia.

Timothy Ellis lives on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia; where he constantly battles with his cat for possession of his desk chair, Daleks do guard duty, and he keeps his sonic screwdriver next to his lightsaber and wand. Now there is a female Doctor Who, he eagerly awaits the sound of the Tardis materializing in his house.

He has spent his life reading and watching science fiction and fantasy, and has been playing Space Genre computer games since he used to be smuggled in to play the original text Star Trek game on a university mainframe, long before the PC or Apple appeared. Since 2004, he's written game guides for the Egosoft X Universe series, culminating in two versions of the X3 Handbook. He has also designed major mods for the various games, and dozens of mini mods.

He has been a farm worker, Antique Dealer, Computer Programmer, Systems Analyst, Operations Manager of a small retail chain, and Retail Store Owner. He is now a full time author, who still does Spiritual Healer and helper work.

After leaving behind the corporate and business worlds, he was opened to his Spiritual gifts. Now a Feng Shui Master, Feng Shui led him to Buddhism, Karma, the Tao, and back to western spiritualism. Since 2006 he has been writing spiritual articles and helping people via spiritual forums and Facebook Groups. His spiritual books include "Personal Healing Using Basic Meditation", "Life Harmony, Feng Shui in Plain English", '101 Tips for the John of God Brazil Experience', and "The Wisdom of the Ages is available for the price of asking a question" series of 8 books. His own spiritual healing led him to writing novels.

His first novel, 'Hero at Large', spawning the long running 'The Hunter Imperium' universe, brings together his love of the space genre, magic, spirituality, and cats. Now 10 series long, the universe covers 3 galaxies, 4100 years, and as at Dragon Imperative, 62 Novels, 7 shorts, and 2 companion books. There are 7 main entrance points across 10 series: Hero at Large, Admiral of Gaia, Yesterday's Spacemage, Crossover, Midshipman Spacemage, Old Magic, and Dragon Rider. Alternate entrance points if you don't need backstory first, are Adrift and Mage King, although Dragon Rider has 3 books before it about the dragons.

If you wish to be kept up to date with new releases and information in The Hunter Legacy Universe series, subscribe here: http://eepurl.com/bqMgVz, and follow on Amazon, Goodreads, or BookBub.

The fastest way to find out about a new release is my Facebook group/page, which get advance warning about 2-4 days before release, and again when the book is uploaded to Kindle; and my email list which goes out as soon as I have an Amazon page for the new book. Bookbub will let you know about 3-4 days after I remember to tell them.

I normally will release in advance of the specified release date whenever possible, so if you are a Kindle Unlimited reader, you will want another method to be notified of the actual release date, so you can read on day 1.

Not so sure about this one - spoilers. Prank the readers redux?

Kindle Unlimited - Yay!

I'm still dealing with rating indecision relative to "The Hunter Legacy" ending in a gamer reset. Authors get to take their work wherever they want, but when a reader has invested the time to read a long series, feeling like you've been pranked at the end isn't a great finish.

So, the author deletes all the characters and events pre-sequel, and then does a deux ex machina to support a sequel where characters, circumstances, evacuations, resettlement, technology, relationships, etcetera only make sense from a deleted timeline? There was no Jon, so there shouldn't be an Admiral Jane, Duke Michael, Baron Fred, bastard royalty, ships, structures, tech etcetera that existed because Jon existed. This author takes suspending disbelief and then totally jumps the shark.

"Admiral Jane" started out with a decent recovery, and the main storyline was fun. Full rights for AI sentients is an interesting trope. But then, at the end it looks like Jon's concerns were justified and that Duke Michael is going to be totally screwed over, or considerably diminished, by the time Baron Fred indulges his personal ambitions? The selfish regent trope? Really?

In spite of Jon's warning about Fred, Jane doesn't do the one thing Jon has asked of her? Fred's comment about solving "a problem" relative to him and Michael didn't set off warning alarms in stereo and technicolor? She's going to deliver a duchy, a planet, and a financial empire on a silver platter to a literally entitled Fred? Such a true example of the worst of a ruling class noble. Just another style of pirate. First he takes after the AIs, usurps those holdings, then cuts out his cousin? So much for a spiritual dynasty. Not my idea of a happy place to spend time....

Sorry, but just not sure I'm up for a boatload of connected unconnectable dots, RL ugliness or the potential of another resolution by reset.

I found the beginning of this book a bit strange with all the main characters from the previous books missing, however it turned into a very enjoyable read and I look forward to the next book in the series.
I did have a couple of minor criticisms, having recently read the ‘Hunter Legacy’ books I found the re-introduction of numerous admirals, generals, colonies and ship types etc a bit tedious, but I suppose the author has to do this for readers who are new to the author.
I also found myself wondering about the increasing number of clones, especially when Darlene sudden made three more clones of herself. Are they copies of Darlene, do they think they are all married to Walsh? The author tends to gloss over the problem.

Awesome development of the Gaia entry into the new galaxy

Finally I am reading all of Tim''s masterpieces. The length and breadth of his world's any galaxies is beyond amazing. This and earlier books are creating a wonderful set of back stories for the later books I've already read. Never boring and just the right balance of story and evolution of the key characters. Queen Jane! Perfect!

I read the 'Jane' [AI Destiny], series before I came across the 'Hunter Legacy', which meant I had to go back and re-read the six book series again, with a lot more clarity and understanding of Jane's history.

It's not often that I will go back and re-read like I did with these books, but I just had to!
I definitely recommend these books to any S-F fans out there... but read them in order!!

Thank You

I am thrilled to continue following Jane on her adventures. I do hope you would create more stories in this universe. I miss Jon and the rest but happy to have these. Thank you.

SciFi the way it is supposed to be. Space battles that are more than just naval battles in space; and complex issues. I enjoyed it. I didn't think I missed a prior book but it read like there might have been one - still read well.

One avatar of AI Jane is in Gaia and not with John's team. She becomes the primary in that galaxy and goes on her own adventures. Humanity finally has first contact with alien races. And for once Humanity is not at the bottom of the chain. I liked the story.

Very good story.

I enjoyed Timothy Ellis' earlier books and wasn't disappointed with this follow on. Well written and enjoyable, even with the spiritual connotations, which I'm not usually a fan of. I gave five stars on this one!

Not the Easiest Read!!

I was some what disappointed with this book. Because the first half to two thirds was hard to follow, atleast for me. I'm trying not to give any spoilers out here, but just be prepared for alot of different characters who are the same.

Great story

I love the story! The characters are inspirational. There is everything I need in a book, aspirations, love, respect, goals and my expectation of confrontation. I couldn’t put the book down, and I’m an old guy that doesn’t usually get excited.
On to the next book.

Maybe 3.5. Some similarities to the beginning of the previous serious. Dumb bullies are out classed and repeatedly destroyed without any harm to the main character. I had a lot of trouble getting interested in the characters.

Hunter lives on!

Through Jane, the galaxy that Jon Hunter envisioned, and fought for, continues on, as he would have wanted it to. Jane is the embodiment of all of Jon's efforts and as such, has become a "human" A.I! I thought that when Jon got everyone in a safe place, that it was the end of the series and I was Devastated! Thank heavens Admiral Jane is continuing on with his vision and expanding on it! Can't wait to see what comes next. Love Timothy Ellis' mind and vision of what the future could be.

Love this new series

I was sad to see the Jonathan Hunter series end, I was a bit distracted by problems with the timeline but am pleased to see many of them resolved here, I really can't get enough of the series or this author, if you haven't read the whole hero series you are really missing out,

Enjoyable First Contact

In so many ways! Actually enjoyed things from Jane's perspective and that of the AIs. The question of soul and karma is wonderful to explore. I recommend!

An interesting story, the look inside of an A.I’s thinking was well done and it was a good start to a new series.

Transition

Difficult place in the opera and handled gently but well. Jon vs Jane has morphed, and it fits better than expected.

The storyline was absolutely thrilling, in the future people have taken to the stars. Earth has been lost to these people but they made out alright. It takes your imagination for a ride and leave you hanging for more. Looking into the sequel the minute I post this review.

Jane

Love the continuing story of the Hunter universe. I just can't seem to get enough. I've been anxiously awaiting this new series. It's great to see Jane develop into a more complex character and see the influence Jon had on her. I'm hoping in the future they reunite.

OThe Admiral of Admirals Kicks Butt

Jane is a great character. She is highly competent and compassionate. Yet she struggles with not being human even though she is human plus. I really like the story with the humor, the morality debate of the AIs and the military science aspect. I look forward to the next book.
