As you would have probably guessed by my previous reviews of other books, I am very interested in reading crime thrillers and criminal stories which keep you on the edge until the very end.
When I read the blurb of 'Queens of Crime', I had a mixed feeling about the book. I did not know whether I should read it and give it a chance or whether I should just leave it as it is. However, something made me read it and boy was I happy that I did. It has definitely been a long time since I read a 5 star book and this made it to the list.
'Queens of Crime' by Kulpreet Yadav and Sushant Singh is a book which contains ten different types of stories of women criminals. How they became criminals, why they became criminals and what they suffered after being criminals, are all there in the book. The harsh picture of what awaits you once become a criminal makes it spine-chilling especially as these are 'true stories'.
All the stories are different. They are set in a different part of the country, against a different backdrop and involving various people from different backgrounds and timelines. However one thing remains the same in all the ten stories, that is, these stories are of women into all the different types of crime one can imagine — drug peddling, water mafia, contract killing, honey trapping men through online portals, kidnapping babies, prostitution and what not.
Although they have become criminals currently, they used to come from a modest background, when their first crime was committed due to certain desperate and extreme situations. But as one soon as they got the whiff of committing crimes, they started committing crimes full time due to various reasons. All the stories provided a detailed explaining about the backgrounds of the women and the circumstances leading them to commit such a heinous thing.
The cover of the book is quite catchy and mysterious while the narration is pretty simple, crisp and fast-paced. The interesting way the authors present each story, makes the readers want to know all the more about the story. The whole concept of the book is unique and it's definitely a page-turner.
I would definitely suggest this book to all. You certainly don't need to be a fan of crime thrillers to read this, but you can read this just to gain knowledge of what's actually going on in the world.
