Described as the lovechild of Peter Mayle’s A Year in Provence and Cheryl Strayed’s Wild, Laura Bradbury’s bestselling Grape Series books are a treasure trove of escapism and romance. From her exchange year in Burgundy to late nights at the Louvre, the five books in the Grape Series are Laura’s love letters to the magnificence of France.
My Grape Year Follow the rules or follow her heart? Finding l’amour in France.
My Grape Paris Can love survive in the City of Lights?
My Grape Wedding Sometimes things need to go terriblement wrong to end up right.
My Grape Escape Running from the law to the vineyards of France…
My Grape Village Uncorking la belle vie in France with family.
Laura Bradbury is the author of the bestselling Grape Series, an award-winning cookbook Bisous and Brioche, the Winemakers Series, and "huggable" rom coms such as Oxford Wild.
She has a law degree from Keble College, Oxford but Laura’s true love was always storytelling.
She married a Frenchman and ran off to France after graduation so she would have something to write about. Now Laura lives between Burgundy, France and an island off Canada's West Coast with her French husband and their three daughters. She can be found writing, reading, or eating snails with a nice glass of Pinot.
From Vancouver, Canada, Laura went on her exchange year abroad in 1990. She was 17 and would be graduating soon. Her first choice of country for the exchange had been Switzerland. She ends up going to France, initially for a year in Burgundy.
This series of books came highly recommended to me, many of my friends have read and loved them-and I can see why. They're lovely, warm reads. I have read a few of them-I haven't read the whole series yet, but have all of the books singularly. How wonderful to find them all together in one kindle set, I'll certainly be recommending it.
Laura writes about discovering the wonderful foods. And wine. The foods are so gorgeously described. Great reads and a way to totally immerse yourself in France. These books are an absolute delight, and a feast of foods.
I know suggesting my own books about my life in Burgundy and Paris seems like the worst sort of nepotism, and make no mistake, IT IS. Still, readers seem to truly love them, for which I am forever grateful. But don’t take it from me; here’s one of my reviews:
* * * * * Book binge! Grab some wine and enjoy.
"Dear reader of this review: choose this series! If you love travel, food, hilarious cultural interactions, romance (but not too much!), and/or just fun adventures, this will be great for you. I started the series after a random Kindle search at the airport, expecting it to be somewhat of a guilty pleasure after years of too much academic reading. It turned into so much more! Her writing on immersion into another culture is thoughtful, real, and, of course, hilarious. This is cheesy, but I feel like I really know her after reading her books—and that's a good thing!"
I loved this series about Laura Bradbury who goes on an exchange year in Burgundy in France when she is 18. She speaks little or no French and is really thrown in the deep end. She meets a man called Franck who turns out to be the love of her life, and the series details their adventures over the next 10 years or so. One book covers their year in Paris, where Laura attends the Sorbonne for a year, one the organisation of their wedding in Burgundy, while she is studying Law at Oxford. Another, the trials and tribulations they go through renovating a house in a small village, and another book details their life when they move back to Burgundy from Canada, with two young children to buy and renovate yet another house. For foodies and wine lovers, there are descriptions to make you drool. For reno enthusiasts, there is the adventure of turning 300 year old cottages into a modern day home. For adventurers, there is the excitement of moving to another country to live. Something for everyone, and well written.
I am a fellow Canadian, living in the north of France for the past 2 years and I enjoyed that Laura shared her life so clearly. She brings her experiences so clearly “to life” it’s as if you’re right there with her. I love her honesty about the good, the bad and the ugly! So refreshing. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a taste of life in France. She actually cleared up some things about the french culture that have mystified me. Totally enjoyed the whole Grape Series. Thanks.
I loved this series! So well written with lovely descriptions. As someone new to living in France, it has also taught me new phrases as well as explained a lot of cultural things that we either hadn’t picked up on or had but didn’t understand them. I wholeheartedly recommend these books for a lovely, lighthearted account of Laura’s adventures.
I love this series. The way Laura presents the memoir of her and her family's life in france makes the reader feel as though she is there. The customs, the beauty, and of course the food and wine are shared with the reader as though you could taste it. Highly recommended.
I loved this series...a memorable life well lived told in vignettes that invite the reader to be there for the important moments of Laura’s life on many levels: hopes, challenges, joys, promises, fears, and dreams...all unfold beautifully in these charming and unforgettable volumes. A joy for me.
