Chaos Rising

Rate this book
A coming of age fantasy that began with Children of the Blessing. Readers all over the world have been enthralled with the gripping tale of Renn and Avaris—two boys who were marked by the gods to become powerful magic users. Chaos Rising, the eagerly anticipated second book of the Lemurian Chronicles, continues the exciting epic story.

Avaris successfully rescued his sister and friend from the clutches of warlocks and demons deep inside the Cragg Caves, but now he is hunted by an army of evil magic users and blood thirsty bests who have been given the task to kill him before he learns to fully use his powers.

Renn (Demaris) is studying at the castle on Elder Island under the watchful eye and protection of the lore masters. But a traitor is in their midst who is being blackmailed by Shamael Daro, the new Grand Warlock, to carry out a single task—eliminate Renn.

Shamael’s power has increased significantly since taking on the mantle of Grand Warlock and he has discovered the dark secret of how the most powerful Grand Warlock of all time, Nefarian Drakkas, nearly took total control of Lemuria more than two thousand years ago. He uses the secret to create a group of soulless, magic using spies and killers to do his bidding. His plan is simple; create chaos across the land so the dark forces of the Aven lore can destroy those who follow the gods of light once and for all.

About the author

Perry Morris

Perry was born and raised in the greater Salt Lake City, Utah area. He is very happily married and has seven wonderful children and two grand-children.

Perry's first exposure to the great world of fantasy literature was, of course, J.R.R Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, when he was fourteen. After that, he read the books of Patricia McKillap, Terry Brooks, David Eddings, Stephen R. Donaldson, etc...Currently his favorite author is Brandon Sanderson. He loves the unique and interesting magic systems Brandon creates, the memorable characters and interesting stories.

Perry actually began writing the Lemurian Chronicles in 1993, and after more than two decades of rewrites, editing, re-editing, etc... finally decided to “take the plunge” and publish his epic fantasy.

Thanks for you interest in Perry and his works.

Again very good

I think one of the things I really like about this series is it draws you in and you want to know more. It is a longer book than most so you don't have to keep looking for the next in line. When I am reading it I know events will take place that are interesting. Interesting, eventful, fast paced enough, and time to settle into it. Admittedly there are a few misspelled words but not enough to deter from a great second in the series. Looking forward to the next one.

I really enjoyed Book 2 of the Lemurian chronicles. The storylines of Avaris and Renn/Demaris remain my favorite, but there are multiple sub-plots from other characters, and every one of them was interesting. The author really takes the time to dive into each of the characters, and the result is a well-crafted book that kept me turning the (virtual kindle) page. I highly recommend this series, and am very much looking forward to book 3.

A brilliant second instalment

I am loving this story. It is vast and sprawling, but fairly easy to keep track of, although a couple of scenes have made me realise there are some things I don't know, but not enough to put me off, or make the story less enjoyable. Hope the next one doesn't take too long to be released.

Book Review originally published here: http://www.iheartreading.net/book-tou...

In the second book in the Lemurian Chronicles, author Perry Morris continues where he left off with the story of Renn and Avaris – two boys marked by the gods to become powerful magic users. Chaos Rising continues their journeys, each of them on their own path, yet forever connected. For my review of book one, Children of the Blessing, go here.

Avaris travels to the heart of the Cragg Caves, home of horrifying beasts and demons ,to rescue his sister and best friend from slave labor in the underground mines. But while getting out of the caves alive is going to be troublesome at best, it’s made even worse because he’s being hunted down by an army of evil magic users, with an assigment to kill him before he can fully learn how to use his powers.

In book one, I loved Avaris the most, and I still feel that way. He has the most intriguing storyline of the both of them, and he has the most depth and personality. Not to say I didn’t like Renn, I just liked Avaris slightly more.

Anyway, in the mean time, Renn is studying at the castle on Elder Island, under the watchful eye of the lore masters. But he too is in danger – a traitor is in their midst, and his job is to eliminate Renn, under command of Shamal Daro, the Grand Warlock.

Again, this book is filled with so much creativity and imagination. The characters are both on a journey, and they develop and change so much, growing into the people they’re meant to be. Meanwhile, the plot is spectacular – fast-paced, with many unexpected twists and turns, and once I started, I couldn’t stop reading.

I can only hope Perry Morris finishes the third book in the series soon.
