Navy Nurse Avery Nelson never dreamed she’d be taken hostage during her deployment in Afghanistan. She’s assisting local women with healthcare, not fighting in a war. But digging her way out of her would-be grave turns out to be the battle of her life. She’s not the type to simply lay down and die, or sit around crying, waiting for someone to save her…though Avery can’t deny it’s a massive relief when the very SEAL she’s been flirting with for months comes to her rescue.

Cole “Rex” Kingston has saved his fair share of women over his time as a SEAL, but no mission has ever seemed as important as the one to find Avery Nelson. Digging the woman out of the rubble of a mountainside in Afghanistan hammers home to them both just how short life is, and they waste no time acting on their attraction, getting closer as Cole helps Avery deal with the aftermath of her ordeal.

But someone isn’t happy that Avery didn’t die in the mountains…and they’ll do anything to make sure she doesn’t live long enough to talk about what she might’ve heard and seen while deployed.

** Securing Avery is the 5th book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Navy Nurse, Avery Nelson never expected to end up a POW, but she was more than glad to see the Navy SEAL she had a crush on show up…but never expected danger to follow her home.

I was very excited getting my hand on this book. Because I like Securing Zoey. It has this small town romance and some hero persona on it.

Securing Avery is a bit disappointment for me. The story is on and on and on about Avery having PTSD. Although she was a very strong and independent woman at the beginning, at the end she is needy and dramatic. While Cole is a hero in the background of the story.

What I like about this book is the banter between Avery and Cole. I liked Avery at the beginning of this book. I even liked her more when she was in the cave. The sexual tension is good at the beginning and sadly burn out toward the end.

Overall, I still managed to finish the book. Despite the shortcoming, it still OK read for me.

Rex is just as amazing as his teammates, but this story just dragged in places while Avery fought her demons from being captured. That took forever but Mom to the rescue to help her out. I loved how Avery and Phantom got along and we learn so much more about him. Can't wait for his book, you know he's going to get in trouble.

Ever since I discovered Susan Stoker's work, I had a soft spot for Fiona who was one of my favorite characters. Well sorry Fiona you are now second in my heart!
Avery was an amazing heroine. I loved that she was also in the Navy and even outranked our SEALs. She knew to follow their orders and not once made it seem like she was entitled not to listen to them. I did not understand all the notions of ranks as I am not familiar with the military world but I found it really interesting.
She knew when she had to follow and when to lead. I loved the moments when she went into leader mode and threw orders around like no one else.
Avery was one badass nurse. Her courage, her strength, and determination awed me.

Rex was as hot and badass as all our other heroes in Susan Stoker's world, and I loved how he was with Avery even though I would have liked him to be more "take charge" at times.

In this book we also get to learn more about Phantom and I am definitely curious about his book, he will have a LOT on his hands!

This was yet another great story by this author, and definitely my favorite in the series.

I popped the cork. I know that may seem like a weird way to start a review but let me explain. Securing Avery has been out for a few weeks. And I just finished reading it. Whew! (Fanning myself) It was GOOOD...

So back to the cork popping. Imagine that you have taken a trip to a winery. And they have all these different kinds of wine. Some dry, some sweet...reds and whites. And while you are there you pick up 6 bottles, cause they're 6 books in the series - get it :P (Well, technically 7). You've slowly been going through bottles. Enjoying the different flavors of each wine and you've just opened bottle number 5.

That's how I see the SEAL of Protection: Legacy books. Each book has been a different wine. They've all been amazing but different in subtle ways. Flowery, potent, robust...and with Securing Avery you get yet another bottle of rich goodness.

Cole "Rex" Kingston may be the best bottle yet, although I reserve the right to amend this statement after the next book ;) Alpha hotness paired with a bit of old fashion traits, Rex is not your normal hero. He's gruff and sensitive but secure in his masculinity to be able to handle Avery's strong personality. He's what I would call a true "Renaissance Man".

Avery Nelson's world is in turmoil. But rather than sit around and curse her circumstances, she's made the decision to "rescue herself". She's also made the decision to take matters into her own hands and ask out the hunky Navy SEAL that she's met back home. Avery is bold and courageous. She's the flavor punch without dominating the entire bottle. Each of them brings a great balance to the wine that you want to savor and enjoy.

Yet another bonus is even though each bottle has been different, you still get to taste hints of those flavors in this new wine. You also get an idea of what that last bottle is going to taste like. A foreshadowing of the fabulousness to come, so to speak.

So yes, I finally popped the cork on this book. It was a great vintage and I enjoyed the bottle. As an avid reader and a huge fan of Ms. Stoker's, I can honestly say that each and every book is a testament to her amazing writing skills. If you've never tried this "brand" before, take this review as a HIGH recommendation!

This was another sweet and fun read from Susan Stoker. However I did find it lacking the usual action packed excitement I’m used to from the author. The hero and heroine also had an already developing attraction between them before the start of the books so maybe that plays into it. Cole “Rex” regrets nothing more than not asking out the cute nurse working at the hospital but at the same time Avery regrets the same thing while in captivity. Cole not only assists in rescuing Avery but he also helps Avery deal with returning home and reacclimating-while there remains a constant threat from an unknown enemy. The same threat which only exists because one man became hooked on drugs, not the most exciting of villains. The story definitely felt more toned down really focused more on their relationship and Avery dealing with her captivity. The heroine was very focused and good at her job as a nurse. Even injured herself she immediately jumped into action when someone was hurt and started barking orders like a boss. I also want to add that the heroine was a Lietutant, she outranked Cole which was a nice addition the the story lol. I am so ready for the next book and I really liked that we got more time with Coles teammate Phantom and the buildup for his story up next.

Amazing is all I can say, but the story is more then amazing, and the characters are all one could want.

This story left me high, speechless and at the edge of my seat. It was better then any action movie i ever saw, to see Rex and his Team mates go out and rescue Avery was like wow. Every page, forget every-page, every sentence had me breathless, I could not wait till the next turn to see what would happen, and I was not disappointed at all.
Avery is everything I think a woman would want to be, strong, courageous and self less, even after all she went through she still put others ahead of her self, and trust me this PTSD was enough to make me feel like I was drowning in her pain, and yet even then she remained selfless.
And Rex aka Cole, jeez I need one like him or his team mates, to me anyway, he embodies all that is to me a Man.
The story was great, it kept me so involved that I forgot the time, and lost my self in a great story, Thank you Susan for a great story and a great adventure, it was better then a movie.

Ho-ly sh**. Avery and Rex almost made it to the top of my "the-best-book-by-Susann-that-I've-read-so-far"- list, but Caroline and Wolf still hold that place. Anyway, Avery is a kick ass nurse, who involuntarily happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, but she's capable and strong, aka stubborn - so she's good on her own. Rex is there to help at the finish-line and lets his guard down during the progress of their relationship so he seems a little insecure while getting to know her better. But when push comes to shove, he and bis Team will do everything in their power, making sure, Avery is safe. A very wonderful story, that not only takes you on the journey of Rex and Avery falling for each other, but you get to have a good look into Phantom as well, as his story will be the next and therefore last in the series. Very awesome!

Quite the adventure

Loved it!! The book felt split into two parts, the rescue adventure and the home adventure/fall out part. And I loved each for separate reasons. Avery and Rex's connection and relationship was amazing to experience.

I also enjoyed getting to know Phantom a bit more and see more developed with his story.

And I loved seeing whsrs become my mantra/theme expressed in this story:
There’s just something about the sun rising in the morning sky that makes me think of new beginnings and hope.

If you love action adventure /Light suspense stories filled with alot of heart, this is a great story to pick up. Either as a stand alone (I haven't read the entire series, and I followed along perfectly fine) or as part of the series.

Mrs. Stoker you have done it again!!

Securing Avery is the fifth in the Seal of Protection Legacy series and it gives us Avery and Rex's story. As with the previous books, this one can be read as a standalone, but I would HIGHLY recommend reading the four books before it, because well they are freaking awesome. We get to visit with the guys in the team; Rocco, Gumby, Ace, Bubba and Phantom, but what we really want is to see what happens with Rex and the fiery red headed nurse he has had a crush on.

Rex has had his eye on Avery every since seeing her at the military base, but things always seemed to come up and he has never had the chance to ask her for that cup of coffee he has been jonesing for. Finally getting the courage to ask her out, he finds out she is doing a tour overseas and that she won't be back for sometime. Rex is disappointed but promises himself that when she gets back, the first thing he is doing is asking her out.

Avery is a dedicated nurse and damn good at her job. When she takes a tour overseas to teacher woman about health care and how to take care of themselves while pregnant, she is ripped away from her loving job and taken prisoner by terrorists. Beaten, tortured, starved and then buried alive, Avery is more than determined to get back home and see not only her friends and family, but also Rex. The one man she can't stop thinking about.

When Rex learns his next mission is to find and recuse the POW taken from a military base along with missing heavy weapons, he is ready to do his job. When he learns that POW is Avery? Well things just got a whole lot worse. Will Rex and his team make it their on time? Will they find Avery? Can they get her out to identify the ones responsible?

I freaking LOVED Rex. One of my most favorite things about they way Susan writes is how real it is. The couple get to know one another, they spend time together, they struggle with things just like every other couple does. I really enjoyed how she brings light to PTSD in soldiers and how it effects their families. Rex is so real, and as silly as it may sound, insecure. He's a big, bad, navy SEAL, but he is still scared of getting hurt in love. Avery is so strong willed and ready to save herself, but also knows she needs help when the darkness gets to much for her. One of my favorite moments in this series was between Avery and Phantom. (No spoilers of course) I can not wait for his book!!! Five outta five stars and the best read I have had this year so fair!!

Cole “Rex” Kingston and Navy Nurse Avery Nelson have been dancing around each other for months. There is an attraction there but neither have acted on it but it may be too late now. Avery is taken hostage in Afghanistan and Rex and the rest of his team as tasked with saving her.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved Avery and the fact that she was a higher rank than the Navy SEAL team that was tasked with her rescue. She never treated them like they were under her and she did everything they asked of her and way more, no questions asked. She is an incredible strong heroine, sotmetimes maybe too strong and stubborn for her own good. She is badass and even when PTSD threatens to take her down she doesn't break easily. Oh she will break but not right away. She is strong and remarkable and even when it shouldn't be possible she finds a way to help the men during her rescue.

Rex is amazing as well but he does have flaws, it makes him human and likeable. He makes a big mistake with Avery but he owns it after he is called on it. He isn't a womanzier and he is also strong and very much an alpha male much like all of Ms. Stoker's Navy SEALS. He has his own role to play in her life and well who wouldn't want a man like him at her side.

This story was fast paced and well very realistic. Ms. Stoker pulled me in and I could almost feel what Avery was feeling during the last couple of chapters. I should know not to start her books until I have time to read the whole thing in one day! We got to know Phantom a bit better and honestly I wasn't sure if I was going to like him but in true Stoker style, I was jumping off the fence quickly. I can't wait to read the next story. In my opinion she usually saves the best story for last. At that is saying something!

Rex (aka Cole) & Avery's story is full of action & excitement!! I love these two together! They've been crushing on each other for a while now, and when Cole has the chance to aid in her rescue, sparks fly & those crushes turn into friendship, chemistry, and love. Avery also has a special bond with Phantom, which is awesome because it gives us a glimpse into this favorite character's backstory & motivations.

There's so much happening in this story I didn't want to put it down! It's like the pages just kept turning themselves. Heh. I love the support & friendships throughout the book - throughout the series, really. They build so well & this team is close to my heart. I want to gush about so many things in the story - but I want you to discover those things for yourselves, so I'll just say - THUMBS WAY UP! And the look into what's going on w/ Phantom & Kalee? Buckle up!! : )

Securing Avery is another great story added to the SEAL of Protection: Legacy series , Susan Stoker has written another five star book in my opinion. This is a book with action, suspense , friendships and most definitely love.
The characters were well written, They are strong independent Navy Nurse Lieutenant Avery Nelson and the handsome SEAL Cole "Rex" Kingston.
Returning from a mission only to get orders to head out on another mission was not a surprise but this one hits a bit close to home for Rex, the nurse he has been flirting with for months has been kidnapped and his SEAL Team and Rex are being sent to rescue one of their own. This is just the start to one story that will hook you from the first chapter till the epilogue and boy this is a story you will not want to miss and let me tell you it will have you on the edge of you seat. I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it. OMG I can't wait for more of this great series.

I loved Securing Avery by Susan Stoker so much that I listened to the audiobook twice and then read the book. The action starts right from the first chapter with Avery trying to dig her way out of her current situation. Cole “Rex” and the rest of the team arrive on scene to rescue her and it’s non-stop action and suspense that I could not get enough of along with the romance between Avery and Rex. I loved how intelligent and strong Avery is and she showed her strength and determination throughout this book. I really enjoyed how her and Rex’s relationship developed and that they took their time in getting intimate which was worth the wait. I also liked Avery’s interaction with Phantom and that we got to see more of him. Love this series and cannot wait to read Phantom and Kaylee’s story.

SECURING AVERY by Susan Stoker. Wow! This one blew me away. Cole and Avery are simply perfect together. I adored both of them. Cole, in his grumpy way, is a pillar for Avery. He is, of course, uber sexy but willing to let his lady be who she is and just be there for her when she needs to lean on him. Avery is a strong and independent woman who shows true strength by not letting bad things get her down. Ms. Stoker certainly knows how to pen emotions and I felt them all in this one. Avery, while strong, does suffer some after affects from her time in Afghanistan, and, as the reader, I lived it with her. This one is a page turner for sure and I highly recommend it (as well as the rest of the series too)

They just keep getting better

Lieutenant Navy nurse Avery was helping Afghani women learn to help deliver babies. What she doesn’t expect it to be kidnapped and held hostage for two weeks. The last week she is buried alive in a cave. Cole/Rex is a Navy SEAL who has been attracted to Avery but to chicken to ask her out. When she’s kidnapped and two privates killed, Rex and his team are sent to rescue her. When she tells them what she saw, they know she’ll be in danger once she gets home until the traitor is caught. Rex stays with her because of her nightmares and to keep her safe. Can they identify the traitor before he takes his revenge on Avery?
Avery is smart, beautiful, and strongly independent woman. Rex is handsome, a SEAL, and very caring man. Action packed with suspense and an evil man who sells out his country. I enjoyed this story but hated that it had to end. You can’t go wrong reading a Susan Stoker book. I can’t wait to read Phantom’s story next.

Nurse Avery Nelson is in Afghanistan, teaching local women about prenatal care, when she sees something she shouldn't, and is kidnapped and left for dead. After digging out of a cave (with the help of a group of Navy SEALs, Avery, Rex, and the rest of his team have to make their way through the Afghani wilderness before coming home to California and identifying the traitor who wanted Avery dead.

Avery is an incredibly strong woman, and very nearly rescues herself from being buried alive (after being starved and beaten). She later uses her medical knowledge to save the life of one of the SEALs who is helping her escape. She's a good match for Rex, who needs someone strong enough to stand up to him, but also willing to lean on him (and have him lean on her). The book is a great mix of romance, action, and suspense. This is one of Susan Stoker's best books.

Avery is one of my favorite heroines I've ever read. A strong, confident, smart woman--a Navy lieutenant and nurse--yet heart-breakingly vulnerable in some ways. Good thing Rex is there to rescue her (only!) when she needs it. He's probably my favorite of Ms. Stoker's SEAL Team: Legacy heroes. Of course, I haven't read Phantom yet. ;)

Another awe inspiring read by Ms. Stoker. Cole (aka Rex) is on a mission to save a Navy Lieutenant, Avery who's been kidnapped in Afghanistan. Avery is one kick ass woman, she didn't sit back and take it, she moved one rock at a time. The Helicopter chapter was awesome and a switch was flipped in roles between the characters, actually this happened a few times and it was fantastic, a definite page turner, you never know what you're gonna get with a book written by Ms. Stoker, you are just along for the kick-ass ride.

Some great lines throughout, "Never look back, you can't change anything about the bad guys following you. You need to always be focused on what's in front of you ... " "You're helping by doing what we ask. By not complaining. By staying upbeat. You've carried a heavy enough load on your shoulders and hart for the last two weeks ... Your job is to put one foot in front of the other and keep going no matter what happens. Can you do that?"

There is three legged races, white water rafting, flying and chutes, VIP camping, you name it. I always enjoy a Stoker book and can't wait for the next one. This book was also special as you get quite a few glimpses into Phantom, totally changes your perspective.

Ciao Fenici!

You really have to admire Avery in this one. At the start of the book she is in a horrible place, but does she let it get her down, no, she does what she needs to do, focusing on what is right in front of her to help her get free. Cole and the SEAL guys were there pick up the slack and get her to safety once and for all. Sadly that didn't happen right away and they took a delightful detour through the Afghanistan country side dodging people after them. It was during this time that Avery proved again what a badass she really was and even one over the skeptical Phantom to her side.

Once safe back home in California you would think that things would be all sunshine and puppies for her, sadly that wasn't the case. Avery had bit of a PTSD problem, but thankfully she asked Cole for help. This really eased Cole because in addition to helping her with the PTSD being around her he knew she was safe from whoever was after her in Afghanistan, even as the time was ticking down to them potentially coming back home.

Things got a bit crazy towards the end, Avery had to once again save herself until the guys could get there to finish things off, but she was up to the task.

As much fun as this book was, I can't wait for the next book. I can tell it will be a good one, first off looks like Phantom will have a crazy stalker. But my heart breaks for Kaylee, she's in a bad spot thinking no one is looking for her. I can't wait for Phantom to find her!!

These books always have strong women and damn Avery is so much more than that. From the very beginning she's fighting to live, digging her way out stone by stone after being left to die. Her one regret, not encouraging Cole 'Rex' Kingston to ask her out, something she would do something about if she manages to get free of this mess.

Rex has been hanging at the hospital where Avery works as much as he can get away with. He finally was going to ask her out but she was being deployed. When his team is sent to rescue drivers and a woman taken when a convoy of weapons is hijacked he finds out the woman is Avery. Nothing will stop him from finding her and he knows his team will have his back.

When they do find her some very interesting things happen.

So many hold your breath moments, and Avery takes no crap from anyone. Rex and his team and a few of those Delta guys are awesome. The fact that Phantom remembers the thing he couldn't and many more OMG moments, add to the suspense. There were times I had tears running down my face even as I laughed out loud.

I really wish I had the will power to not start reading these books when they hit my kindle, I couldn't put this book aside and now I need a nap or three.

I can't wait for the next book in this series!

What an exciting book this was. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Rex and Avery have been dancing around each other for awhile. They both are pulled in different directions for work but plan to meet up afterwards. Neither know that where they meet up again was not where they had planned.

Rex was an amazing character. You get to see him not only as a man but also a SEAL. You see how caring and concerned his is not only for Avery but also his teammates. I loved whenever Rex talked about his team in a way of them being brothers and they are better as a group then alone.

Avery is a nurse that is amazing under pressure. Her new adventure turns deadly when she is buried alive. I loved reading about her drive and determination. I liked her one rock at a time mentality. I think a lot of us could use that in our daily lives.

I have to say, I liked these two as a couple. They just fit for the most part but the thing I liked best about this book was the slow burn. I've seen other reviews that didn't like that there wasn't a lot of romance and things like that but to me where were they suppose to have all this romance? Right after the river incident?? When it is obvious to everyone she's not sleeping?? To me, how Rex handled the situation showed he kind of man he is. He didn't want to pressure her. He put the ball in her court.
