Rate this book
One day, for no reason, the Animals woke up. They started thinking. They started talking. They started taking REVENGE.

The world is plunged into chaos as the newly-intelligent Animals fight humanity, and simply fight each other, for their own life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. In the midst of the turmoil is Jesse, an 11-year-old girl, and her dog, Sandor, who is devoted to her and her protection. One year after the incident, Jesse and Sandor begin a cross-country journey to find Jesse's half-brother, Adam, who is living in San Francisco.

Don't miss out on this fantastic second hardcover collection of the series everyone has been talking about since it's debut!

Taking Sarah to her brother was all Sander wants for her. Someone who’s like her, shares blood and will keep her safe. On the group’s travels out west, they stumble upon a giant bee hive where a group of people are stealing some of the colony. Scared, the bees force Sarah to go save they’re queen and the group is faced with seeing what different types of communities are forming after the wake.

I really enjoyed this volume. Sadly not as much as the first but I think it still covers some very interesting topics and shows how different beliefs created very unique communities that can be at odd with each other. Not sure if it was from the time between reading volumes but this seemed a bit more graphic than what I remembered in the first one. What intrigued me the most is probably the plot line focused on Sander and whether he’s good or bad in regard to protecting Sarah. I’m still heavily interested in this story and can’t wait to read more.

In this continuation, Jesse is separated from her friends, from Sandor, for trying to help a hive of bees with the humans who keep poaching them for their own use. Winding up on the run with Kyle, through trickery, Jesse finds herself in a walled city, cut off from any animals who seem sentient, with Sandor and the others trying to find a way to rescue her.

A great continuation of the story with more bits of their past leaking through - did Sandor actually kill Jesse's father? Is he responsible for her mother's death?
