FILLED WITH GENTLE humor and lots of photo illustrations, here are three favorite stories straight from the classic Thomas DVDs. First, Thomas is eager to hear the Legend of Proteus’ Lamp. Next, James gets a new coat, and doesn’t want to ruin it by working too hard. And finally, a beautiful golden eagle has been spotted on Sodor. Thomas loves birds, but the eagle never seems to be anywhere that Thomas can see it.
Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
For joy, video lovers. In this book you'll find three stories straight from the "classic" Thomas DVDs.
Actually, guess what? In the opinion of this Goodreader, a book is the classic. Not a movie adapted from books from years ago, then the movie turned into this book.
Here's to discovering the joy of reading. Reading books.
I'll still give this "book" FIVE STARS, mostly for the sake of encouraging nonreaders to become readers.
The stories here are:
THE MAGIC LAMP
Discover a story about Proteus, an early sea god. Only this isn't an original Greek legend. Rather, this story concerns an old engine named after Proteus. Okaaaay.
JAMES GETS A NEW COAT That is, this engine receives a new coat of paint.
THOMAS AND THE GOLDEN EAGLE
Happy bird watchers and the golden eagle itself are NOT part of Thomas's assignment. Nor Percy's.
The ending to this story is lovely. Although I'll have to leave it to you to find it. No spoilers from me.
Certainly wouldn't recommend this for kindergarten kids. It's suitable for children aged 6 and above. 3 neat stories packed into a single book, each ending on a warm note. Reminded me of my childhood days. Glad that I grew up seeing this.
Finally a Thomas book that does have lessons and consequences. All three stories (The Magic Lamp, James Gets a New Cat, and Thomas and The Golden Eagle) have little lessons to be learned and they are cute stories. I especially liked the last story where Thomas recognizes that because of his actions, Percy would not get to to see the Golden Eagle. I want my nephew to like this book the best.
This Thomas story is one of the longer dense stories that are a little more difficult to sit through. The newer tracks and characters are advertised on the back page.
