Solid 4+ book. Wonderful gem that I had previously overlooked because of the title & cover. However, after reading the synopsis, I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. There are some heavy subject matters woven within the story, so I would urge anyone contemplating reading this book to heed the author’s warning—there are triggers. I think these issues were explored without being overly maudlin. Rather, the author skillfully handled these “heavy” issues with sensitivity and gentle discernment. That is a huge plus for me.
Additionally, the main characters, Kennedy and Clayton, were so delightful, and their love for each other was bright as a shining star. The cast of secondary characters were also extremely appealing. There was a great deal of explicit sex, but the book really didn’t get bogged down with it- but the sexual escapades almost impeded the storytelling. There were a few dropped words, but there were no major editing issues. I did find that there was some repetition; however, because past and present events are fundamental to the plot line, some repetitiveness is warranted in my opinion.
Overall, this book was a very solid and satisfying read. Moreover, the author adroitly tackled some weighty issues. I was impressed with this author, and I’m looking forward to Book 2 entitled Sweet As F*ck. I guess I will learn NOT to judge a book by it’s cover (or title), eventually!
