CEO Shane Monroe sticks out like a sore thumb in Second Chance, Idaho, where he’s investigating his grandfather’s connection to the town’s folklore of stolen treasure. Feisty local Franny Clark ridicules his city-slicker ways but allows Shane to hunt for gold on her land…if he can help save her rodeo ranch. Shane is captivated by Franny’s go-getting attitude, but what will it take for him to win her over?
Prior to writing romance, award-winning, USA Today Bestseller Melinda Curtis was a junior manager for a Fortune 500 company, which meant when she flew on the private jet she was relegated to the jump seat—otherwise known as the potty. After grabbing her pen (and a parachute) she made the jump to full-time writer. Between writing sweet romance and sweet romantic comedy, Melinda finds time to bond with her husband over home remodeling projects. She recently came to grips with the fact that she’s an empty nester and a grandma, concepts easier to grasp than jet-setting on a potty.

The Mountain Monroes series is such a fun set of stories! I am really enjoying the overarching mystery that has woven its way through the books. These stories can be enjoyed as stand alones, however it has been so much fun to get to know the characters a little more as each novel releases.
Shane and Franny are definite opposites, yet somehow find that they are a good match. This story has humor and romance, as well as plenty of action and danger on the ranch. I enjoyed watching as Shane’s character became someone I liked and respected. Franny was a strong woman who had been through a lot and I really liked her, as well. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
‘Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher‘ is the fourth title in ‘The Mountain Monroes‘ series. It’s an interesting romance for many reasons. Throughout the series, I’ve been somewhat iffy on Shane. In one novel I liked him, in another, he annoyed the heck outta me. I couldn’t really get a handle on this man who needs to be in charge, is fully capable of taking control, but always seems to be on the edge of having to prove himself – to himself, if not members of his family. I always felt he was working or looking for an angle, and maybe he was, just not the way I’d been thinking. He’s a character who proved himself worthy to me… and that’s not something I usually ‘make’ characters do but it’s the best way to describe my reading relationship with this particular Monroe.
Franny’s recently had her world turned upside-down with the death of her husband. The running of their ranch, which trains and sells rodeo bulls, is suffering although Franny’s been doing her best to keep that fact from the rest of the family. She needs a miracle in the form of feral bulls, the ones that usually can be found near their pastures… and there is one, a huge, mean, ornery, dangerous bull that could be the ranch’s saving grace. Or it could be the most dangerous thing she’s ever considered since she strongly suspects that this particular bull is the one who killed her husband. But grief won’t pay the bills, and this bull certainly would do that in spades.
‘Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher‘ is a combination of factors all coming together at the same time. Shane is still looking for the secret he’s convinced his grandfather has hidden around town somewhere, the possible discovery of loot hidden by a century-old bandit, which most people believe is only a myth, one feisty, stubborn grandmother, three adorable boys, one at the brink of the teen years… and two people who on the surface are so different that it’s laughable to think they could make it together – but love is never predictable, we should know that by now.
There is a lot more to this story but you need to discover those small and large things for yourself, first-hand. I enjoyed myself, understood the townsfolk and the Monroes a bit better, had a blast watching two stubborn people fall in love, and kept track of a young man who is going to do great things one day. I had fun, and I’m betting that you would, too.
I definitely did not enjoy this one as much as the previous ones in the series. We didn’t see as much of the town, which had up until now been portrayed in so much detail to essentially be another character. The treasure hunt storyline also felt shallow and irritating, rather than exciting and mysterious. I never felt any particular interest in that plot line. There was no chemistry between the love interests. The female MC was suuuuper insecure and overly cautious about everything, whereas the male MC was rash and barreled into danger despite not knowing the first thing about what he was doing. Opposites attract, I guess, but I never really understood what they saw in each other.
If it weren’t for the fact that I really want to get to the other books in this series to see what happens next to this town, I might’ve DNFd. I ended up rounding to 3 stars because there were some side characters developing that I enjoyed. I’m seeing glimpses of a possible love triangle set up for the next book - already feeling major chemistry between two of them, so I hope I’m right which one she’ll end up with. 😘
I was so happy to finally get Shane's story. Shane wants to be in charge of something so bad and no one will listen to him. When Franny needs some help, it is Shane to the rescue. He is great with logistics. He may not know anything about ranching, but he can solve problems. Shane and Franny grow close, but Shane knows there is nothing for him to do in town and so he will not stick around. Franny wants him to stick around, but what would he do. She is the rancher and knows what she is doing. As they look for the gold and bulls, they both know that their time together is limited. Will he stay?
Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher by Melinda Curtis is Shane's love story. He deserves a happily ever after.
Will Shane get past his need to control everything to be with Franny?
Shane Monroe Shane Monroe is the oldest of the second son's family line. He has always felt he needs to be better than his siblings and cousins. Not in the way that he deserves it because he's one of the oldest ones, but in the way that he wants to feel validated and like he deserves his family's love. Sadly, with his grandpa's will having them all get kicked out of their respected Monroe Holding positions, Shane doesn't know what he can do. He's used to being the big man in charge. For him, Second Chance is the biggest roadblock. I loved Shane in his novel since we finally got to the root of everything for him. The biggest thing I loved was that he grew into a great man who would be an excellent stepfather to Franny's three little men.
Franny Clark Franny Clark thought she had it all, and then, one day, she lost it all. She lost her husband and has been having a hard time keeping the farm afloat on her own. The Monroes scare Franny because they have all the power over Second Chance to change it into whatever they want except near her farm since they legally don't own it. Franny is a mother of three and knows she can do anything she puts her mind to. I must say that I liked Franny and how she didn't back down from anything Shane said. I loved how they butted heads a lot, and they made a cute couple.
Five Stars I am giving five stars to Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher by Melinda Curtis, and I recommend this series. Ms. Curtis has created such an interesting little mountain town, and I love how each Monroe has come forward in their books to do something to help the town out.
Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher by Melinda Curtis.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGallery and I am voluntarily reviewing. (I did also purchase a copy!)
I have been waiting for Shane's book. He has appeared several the Monroe books. This is his story along with Franny Clark. Franny is a widow and owner of a ranch. She cares for her 3 young sons and her grandmother-in-law, Gertie. The ranch supplies bulls to the rodeo circuit. Lately though, the bulls haven't been "rank" enough. The buyer will personally come and bring some riders to test out her stock for this year. The stock isn't want it used to be since her husband died from a feral bull two years ago. She just may lose the ranch. She needs to catch some of the feral bulls to keep her ranch going.
Shane along with eleven other grandchildren were fired from the Monroe family businesses per their grandfather, Harlan's will. If they weren't fired, then his children wouldn't inherit the millions. Of course the parents fired all 12 of the grandchildren. But Harlan owned a town and left it to the grandchildren. Shane is trying to keep the little town going so he can prove himself worthy of his former CEO title.
Throw in some trouble at Franny's ranch, trouble with the kids, feral bulls, the legend of Mike Moody's gold and you have a story that will enthrall you.
This is a great story. I loved the multiple person POV. It helps to set the stage for the next book as well. This is a sweet, clean romance that I would recommend to anyone.
I think this is my favourite book in the series so far. I have been waiting to see what Shane's story was and I was not disappointed at all. Shane, the born CEO, wants to run things and in this story he finds out that they may not be possible in Second Chance. There was a lot of action in this story, a lot more than I had expected. I had never heard of feral bulls, not that they could be used on the rodeo circuit, so that was a very interesting story line for me. Shane, the Monroe who thought it was his job to save Second Chance, has another cause in this story. He wants to help Franny save her ranch. When he shows up in khakis and shoes to saddle horses and ride with his nephews, she doesn't think he will ever make much of a cowboy. He is determined to show her that he can help, whether he is a cowboy or not and he sets out to prove it. The other thing I loved about this book is that they finally learn about Harlan, their grandfather, and his life in Second Chance. Shane finally figures out what his grandfather's purpose was when he forced their father's all to throw them out of the family businesses or lose everything. A wonderful story about family, learning what is important in life, trusting others and romance. I author generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher is the 4th in the series but can be read as a stand alone; however, I would suggest reading the previous books to better understand the development of the characters and story. This is Shane and Franny's story. Shane is trying save and revitalize the little town of Second Chance, Idaho that he and eleven other grandchildren inherited upon his grandfather's death. The problem is that the town isn't cooperating with his "big city" ideas and his frustration is taking a toll. Franny, a widow with three young boys, is trying to save the family ranch and business but a lack of ranch hands and a healthy dose of fear are weighing her down. Although Shane has no experience with ranching, he does know problem solving and the two work together. The more time they spend together, the closer they get. Lifestyle differences, family interactions and overall challenges make for a fun, easy read that will entertain and delight.
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.
Book #4 in The Mountain Monroes. I love this series. It’s a must read. Don’t miss one book in this series. Easy to read, love all the characters, Happy Ending, no cliff hangers. It’s just a sweet read.
Another great book in The Mountain Monroe's Series Shane Monroe another grandson of Harlan is in Second Chance Idaho where he is investigating his grandfathers connection to the towns talk of stolen treasure! Here he meets the woman Franny A Feisty local who he is captivated by her attitude. Shane will try and help her safe her ranch! I gave this a 5 star because it is another great book in this series! If you haven't read you should you wont be disappointed!
I loved this book! Another great Mountain Monroes book. I love the Monroe family. They are fun, but then again so much like a real family with strife included. I was glad Shane got his own story and found him someone to love. At first, I wasn't sure if I liked Shane, but with each previous book, I liked him more. I would highly recommend this book and the others in the series. I was provided an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Shane Monroe wants so badly to save the little town of Second Chance for both selfish and unselfish personal reasons. He wants to put his expertise in business to work with creative ideas to attract tourists to the area. Shane encounters local resistance; and while he works to smooth things over, he meets Franny, a widow with three children who owns the Bucking Bull Ranch. Franny and Shane share an attraction and admire each other’s skill sets, but are sure that a relationship would have no future.
This romance is packed with danger in the form of massive, feral bulls. It has likable characters who struggle with parent/adult child relationship issues. There is somewhat of a mystery too as Shane tries to establish a basis for historical significance for the town. Is the tale of Merciless Mike Moody a myth? Is there really gold buried in the mountain?
Franny’s children are typical video-game loving boys, but they have learned early, from living on a ranch, that country living requires taking on a lot of responsibility from an early age. We meet several more of the diverse group of Monroe cousins in Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher.
I had a great time reading this book and learned a lot about bulls and rodeo. The ending is very sweet but don’t skip ahead or it won’t make sense. “Good things come to those who wait.” That is good advice for me as I anticipate the next book in the Mountain Monroes Series.
I would like to extend my thanks to Melinda Curtis for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Shane is in Second Chance, Idaho investigating some stolen treasure that his grandfather might have something to do with. Franny knows of the story but doesn't really believe its true but will let him search within reason.
This was a sweet little enjoyable book. I thought it was interesting seeing how everything played out. This book was pretty tame from what I normally read. ( I've been reading non stop action books and then pretty much went to this) but there was a few things here and there to keep me wanting more. Like the bull for instance it was pretty much a presence of knowing that there is little to stop the beast from hurting any one. Not much to say about this book other then it was a pretty good contemporary romance and that I enjoyed it.
Another of the Mountain Monroes; this time featuring Shane Monroe doing his best to revitalize Second Chance, ID, but he's just been fired from the City Council and no one likes his ideas. When Franny Clark needs help on her rodeo bull-breeding ranch, Shane isn't her first choice for help--she actually doesn't want to even ask!--since the last time he was on a horse, he was in college and that didn't go well, either. But, he's intent on keeping her safe and that huge feral bull he saw scares him to death! How's she going to manage to catch him?
That's where his two cousins come in to help, one of whom claims he rode bulls in Texas. Will that go any better than Shane's experience on horseback? Then there's Granny Gertie and her insistence that there's gold coin hidden near, perhaps in, the local cemetery where Franny's husband is buried. If Franny can find it, she'll be able to pay the overdue bills, but is Granny right or just making things up?
A tale filled with excitement and fun, as well as romance.
"There's gold in them thar hills." Supposedly! Second Chance, Idaho is the home of the legend of stagecoach robber Merciess Mike. Come join the search for this hidden treasure.
The legend is that there is gold buried somewhere around Second Chance, Idaho. Shane Monroe believes that finding this hidden loot from stagecoach robber Merciless Mike will help make the town an appealing tourist attraction. Shane's grandfather Harlen Monroe was originally from Second Chance. He left the town and went on to amass a fortune in several business. Later in life Harlen started purchasing businesses in the deteriorating town of Second Chance and eventually he essentially "owned" the town. Upon his death he willed the town to his twelve grandchildren and challenged them to revitalize it. Shane took his grandfather's challenge to heart and moved to Second Chance. His trusted allies in his quest to fulfill his grandfather's wishes are cousin Laurel and deceased cousin Bryce's widow Ella. The others want to challenge the will. Shane is determined to change their minds. In Second Chance Shane meets widow Franny Clark who is struggling to keep Bucking Bull Ranch, a rodeo ranch, afloat. She lives with her three sons and her grandmother-in-law, Gertie Clark. Back in the day Gertie's husband, Percy was best friends with Harlen Monroe. A city slicker like Shane isn't much help for a rancher like Franny but that didn't stop the attraction between them from heating up exponentially. Franny and Shane need to defy the odds against such a relationship working out. Will they?
Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher by Melinda Curtis is the author's fourth book in her Mountain Monroe series. I have been captivated by the premise of this series; a grandfather leaving the town of Second Chance to his grandchildren to revitalize as well as spurning them on to believe in themselves and choose to live their lives as they truly want to instead of being stuck in the Monroe family corporate world. This story fascinated me with how city slicker Shane finally found his true worth while falling in love with a strong-willed Franny who found in Shane someone she could fall back on. I liked the incorporation into this story of Franny's nine-year-old son Davey who has a handicap but meets the challenges that come with the handicap unbelieveably well. I also enjoyed the interaction between the Monroes who are in town working to filfill their grandfather's wishes. This is a well-written, sweet, emotional read and I look forward to more Monroe stories from Melinda Curtis.
The matching of the Monroes continues in the fourth book of The Mountain Monroes series by Melinda Curtis. In LASSOED BY THE WOULD-BE RANCHER we get to know Shane Monroe better and watch him meet his match in Franny Clark. This series has many characters to keep track of with a large family and a town surrounding them, but each story brings us a new happy ending for one of the grandchildren sent to Second Chance, Idaho to discover what it meant to their grandfather.
Shane has been outspoken and intrusive in the previous books of the series, so I didn't go into this book liking him all that much. Luckily things change ... and he showed a whole other side of himself when he interacted with Franny and her family.
Franny is a force to be reckoned with and you can't help but love her spunk. She has heartache and pain in her recent past, but she doesn't let it mire her down. She's determined to make the best of what she's got ... and if Shane wants to be a part of that, she's game!
I recommend this book and the entire series to anyone enjoying a family centered series that has various members of the family finding their happily ever after along the way as they strive towards figuring out a mystery. I loved seeing a couple more family members come into the story line heavier in this book and can't wait to get to know them more.
This was an interesting story in The Mountain Monroes saga. The characters were interesting and likable . There were some twists and turns in the story that keeps you reading.
Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher: A Clean Romance by Melinda Curtis is book 4 of The Mountain Monroes. This is Shane Monroe's story. It is fitting that Shane 's story is getting told as he has tried hard to honor his grandfather's wishes as well as to get the other grandchildren to do so. A split does not make you strong but it is interesting finding out about each one. Shane is the one who needs to be in charge as he is a fixer by nature. Fanny has a ranch outside of town and is having some issues with keeping it afloat. Her grandmother knew Shane's grandfather. The story there is interesting and adds to the series. Shane needs to be in charge and fixing something fanny needs help so a perfect project. Wrong as both are stubborn . It makes for an interesting journey as Shane tries to help Fanny and her family by using his family as well as searching for gold. there is crazy bull in the story that keeps life from being boring . This can be read as a stand alone but reading the series makes each story even better plus you get the details that make sense. Melinda Curtis keeps the series moving along . She also makes me want the next book. Melinda Curtis is in my top tier of authors to read.
5 Stars. I have been anxiously awaiting this book after reading the first in the series. Why? Because Shane Monroe jumped out of the pages in the first book and became my favourite hero. I’ll admit, I had high expectations for Shane’s story. And did the author do Shane justice? She did indeed! The author and Shane deserve a standing ovation! Melinda Curtis gave us the perfect hero. Shane’s tough exterior hides the ultimate gentleman inside, and this city boy is about to get a taste of cowboy life. Franny is the perfect match for Shane and she brings out the gold in Shane. Speaking of gold...there’s more than a heartwarming romance (with longing gazes) going on between these pages. There’s lots of drama (especially when Shane’s cousins enter town), action packed with bulls (scenes filled with intensity and some will make you laugh), and then there’s the gold...a story told by Franny’s grandmother-in-law about Merciless Mike Moody. Is the story just a tale? You will have to read the book to find out. This is book four in The Mountain Monroes series and I don’t know how the author is going to top Shane’s story, but I am anxious to find out in this must read series. Reviewed for Still Moments Magazine.
This story centers around Franny Clark and Shane Monroe. Franny, a widow with three boys, is trying to keep her rodeo stock ranch from going under. Shane was the CEO of the Monroe holdings, until he was fired, per his grandfather’s will. He’s in town to babysit his cousin’s children while she is on her honeymoon. The same town that he is part owner. A town he wants to help to help prosper. But he only meets obstacles. In the meantime, he also wants to help the very independent Franny and the woman he’s very attracted to. This is the first book in the series that I have read and though it’s considered a stand alone, not having read the previous stories, I did feel at a disadvantage. Characters from the previous stories had secondary parts in this one . I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
The Monroe Grandchildren are trying to adjust to the life changes brought about by the death of their grandfather. He left Second Chance to them. This is why Shane Monroe is in Idaho. He wants to help the town that meant so much to his grandpa. It's an uphill battle. The people are receptive and neither is most of his family. Shane is intrigued by the tales of hidden treasure. This could be just what's needed to bring tourists to town, but he has to find it first. I liked Shane. He is a good and caring person. He's determined to succeed. I wished he wasn't so focused on the end game. He's sure that to be successful he can't stay in Second Chance but his powerful attraction to Franny Clark makes him want stay with her. Opposites attract is definitely true in their relationship. I wanted these two to overcome the obstacles they face. They make a strong couple. Franny is a determined to save her ranch. She survived loss and kept moving forward for her boys. Shane wants to help, but Franny would give up control. Shane is bossy and Franny is not a damsel in distress. This makes their romance a challenge. Where do they go from here? I wanted a HEA. Melinda Curtis wrote a powerful story. I loved Lassoed by the Would-Be Rancher. The Monroes make me laugh, cry and fall in love. I can't ask for more than that. I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
I really have enjoyed reading about the Monroe Family they are a fun bunch learning to live and grow with the new circumstances they have been handed. I have to say I was not much a fan of this couple. I loved the Clark children and Gertie they were so fun to read about. I loved Davey and how not matter what he "took the bull by the horns" and ran with it, he was a fighter and it was hard not to love him and his independent spirit. If you have been following the Monroe Family this book will catch you up on the comings and goings and is well worth the read. I also have to say I really liked reading about Bo and Jonah I can't wait to read more of their stories and see what kind of trouble those to cause. This book is a clean read and so good. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Book 4 in the series. This is Shane Monroe's story. I've been waiting for this one. I wasn't sure who would be a match for Shane. I wasn't sure Melinda Curtis hadn't lost her mind when she paired Shane with Franny. They're complete opposites, but every pot has a lid. They really are a perfect pair. I enjoyed reading another great book. Thank you Melinda Curtis, I look forward to our next rodeo.
I've been wanting to read Shane's book ever since I started this series! Someone can still read this book as a standalone but it's much more fun if you've read the previous books to see how far he's come! He's been a CEO of a Las Vegas business and suddenly he's in Second Chance, Idaho to work out the details of his grandpa's will. It's all been very challenging for him since the locals don't really like his "city ways". However, he's slowly been changing and gotten to kind of like this little town. Then, there's Franny who is the widowed mother of 3 rambunctious boys who owns a struggling ranch when Shane offers to help her out while her ranch hand is on his honeymoon, she practically laughs in his face. Shane knows nothing about ranching! He shows up on the ranch anyway. There are many humorous moments of Shane trying to do ranching things! I liked the fact that Shane never gave up. In the process he finds himself falling for the pretty rancher. Franny's 3 boys are a hoot! One of her boys has a disability and Shane is so good with him! There is also a legend that gold is on the property and that's a focus of the story. A lot of fun AND danger going on there! This story is great and one I definitely recommend!
A Vicious Bull Named Daddy Buttercup 3.5* Franny is a widow with three young boys and the responsibility of a faltering ranch raising rodeo bulls. She has been without her experienced ranch hand Zeke for weeks due to an accident and now he has gone on honeymoon just when she needs him most. How is his new cousin by marriage, Shane Monroe, with his expensive clothes who has until recently run a chain of luxury hotels, going to be of use to her? Shane and Franny are so different that I didn’t really feel any romantic connection between them but I enjoyed the family dynamics, the Merciless Mike story and the peril. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Each of the Munroe's has been unique but Shane has been by the farthest. He has wanted answer to certain things and in his own way he has found them along with love thru Franny Clark. Its a very interesting fourth book for we finally see our most stubborn Munroe meet his match. But we also start to see what Bo and Jonah Munroe are like. I love how Melinda writes this story. She makes the story come to life showing what Franny has lost yet also the part of letting go. Its interesting how she has Shane's grandfather's past tied in to this story for it is a very important part. She does an excellent job of tying 2 different generations together. This book gives you a look into the past and ties it into the present. I'm looking forward to the next Munroe to be lassoed. J
