Poor Georgie! She had a lot of things to forgive and move on from in this story! Things from the distant past, the recent past, and even some things from the present.

I enjoyed this second chance love story and was happy to see Georgie gain the strength she needed to grasp hold of what was most important to her.

Harrison had problems of his own to deal with, balancing his growing feelings for Georgie with his demanding boss and the rigors of single fatherhood. I liked seeing how his heart was finally in the right spot to realize the treasure that Georgie was. Sweet story!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is such a sweet read. Mike is a nice guy who made a big mistake in his earlier days. A mistake that sends his best friend out of town, for what he thinks is forever. Imagine his surprise when Georgie makes it back home to help her dear friend in his automobile garage. Although Georgie is not so sure she’s made the right decision because no one trusts her with their vehicles. Will Mike be able to rescue her, causing the town people to finally trust her?

Author Tanya Agler does an excellent job of creating the right characters for this story, developing their characters throughout the story. A story that is very well written. And an amazing debut novel! I quickly fell in love with Georgie and Mike, each with their own heartaches over the past, neither knowing what to do to fix it. And Mike’s daughter stole my heart immediately. She is such a sweet young girl, with a single dad who raised her well.

This story is all about dealing with a shaded past, forgiveness and second chances in life. Though it all doesn’t come easy. There was several difficult issues both Michael and Georgie had to deal with, including their past life relationship. But it comes together beautifully as you will find when you read this story for yourself. I encourage you to pick up a copy of The Sheriff’s Second Chance. If you enjoy clean romance, this is one is for you.

In The Sheriff’s Second Chance, Tanya Agler gives readers a story that's not your typical second chance romance.

Georgie is not your typical romance heroine. She’s a tomboy who works on cars and is comfortable with herself despite her mother’s efforts to change her and the suspicions of many Hollydale residents. Returning to her hometown is temporary but people like her former best friend Mike Harrison and his adorable daughter make her question her plans.

With a rash of theft in Hollydale, Mike is overextended trying to investigate and solve the crimes. When evidence points to Georgie, he is determined to prove her innocence, to make up for the way he’d hurt her when they were younger. But hanging around Georgie stirs him more powerfully than he anticipated.

Agler delivers a story of second chances, forgiveness, and finding home while adding in a precocious girl, memorable townspeople, and a mystery to solve. Here’s hoping we return to Hollydale in future books (because I really want to hang out with Lucie and Natalie again).

Given the average rating and the number of 4-5 star reviews, I was sure I was going to love this book. I didn't. My hatred of Mike was so overwhelming that I actually seethed while reading this book. There were so many things that I didn't like about this book; the town, the mother, the sheriff. GAH. This book gave me a headache. My kindle has 80 notes where I called either Mike, the town, her mother, or the sheriff jerks (or some curse word equivalent). I forced myself to read to the 40% mark and then skipped to the last two chapters. The HEA and epilogue were weak and annoyed me. I didn't think Georgie should have forgiven Mike or her mother.

Normally I'd hide the below under spoilers because it's sort of spoilery but I'm so annoyed.....

----spoilerish below----

The book lost me as soon as the author let the readers know what Mike had done to Georgie in high school. Evidently, they were best friends and she had feelings for him. He was going to take her to the prom. He has his sister give her a note ditching her on the night of the prom. When she shows up to confront him? He's having sex with another girl! Yes, she walks in on him losing his virginity.

Oh it gets even better.

Then after Georgie moves away a year later, during that time he doesn't even try to fix things. (It does come out that he tried TWICE to see her but her mother, rightfully so, protected her and told him to go away). Not that there is any fixing what he did!! He goes and gets drunk, has sex, gets the girl pregnant. When she shows up to tell him? He proposes on the spot. They divorce shortly after the birth.

Oh but wait, it gets even better because this guy is such a winner.

Georgie comes back to town while there are some burglaries going on. The auto shop where she is working is hit and Mike immediately suspects her! WTAF? Why would she even do it? The sheriff starts in on her being responsible for all the thefts, she wasn't even in town!!! Mike very weakly tries to defend her while suspecting she's guilty.

Then, of course, word starts to get around and this "awesome" town starts gossiping about how Georgie is the thief. They are already shunning the shop because they can't handle a female mechanic. What the heck? This isn't the 1950's, female mechanics aren't that rare. Heck, I even hear that there is this female race driver now... (sarcasm). I couldn't believe that the author made this an issue.

So, between Mike being such a jerk and her mother being a manipulative and controlling b**ch and the town filled with hateful and narrow-minded people ... I was done and skipped to the final two chapters of the book.

Only to find....

Mike arresting Georgie for the theft in the auto shop. WTAF?!??!?! Her TWO friends (one his sister) are shouting at him and showing support while he remains silent and arrests her. What is wrong with this guy? What is wrong with Georgie that she keeps forgiving him? She should have never forgiven him after the stunt he pulled in high school. How does a relationship bounce back from her walking in on him having sex with another woman? WTAF?!?!?

He bit back a smile. Somehow, in spite of everything, he sensed she was on the way to forgiving him, all of him. The boy who stood her up all those years ago, the man who let go of the Thunderbird she lovingly restored and the man who arrested her.

I sort of hated Georgie at this point. She's a great character, I would have loved her if not for the way she allowed this guy to do all these things to her. Then she forgave him! No. No way. There is no excuse for the things he did. None. She deserved so much better than this guy, this massive jerk.

I feel bad leaving a 1-star rating. However, according to the Good Reads rating system that means I don't like the book. Since I didn't like it enough to finish it? Anyways, others love it so give it a try. This is just my opinion.

I really enjoyed the depth and uniqueness of the characters and the small town of Hollydale in this story!

The main character, Georgie Bennett, has an occupation that I've never seen in all my years of reading fiction--she's an auto mechanic. She is a self-labeled 'tomboy' who is more at home in jeans, a t-shirt, and her old sweatshirt than she is in a dress and heels. There are a lot of obstacles for Georgie to overcome along her path in life, but she is resilient, determined, and ambitious. I admired her passion for and dedication to her profession!

The cast of supporting characters, including a canine and a feline, are wonderful and engaging, too! I especially liked Beau, the dog; Rachel, the eight-year-old daughter of the male lead; Lucie, the down-and-out but never-give-up childhood friend of Georgie; and Max, the owner of the auto shop where Georgie works.

The male lead, Mike Harrison, is a law enforcement officer who was best friends with Georgie throughout childhood until he messed up--big time--in high school. Along with Georgie, Mike experiences a lot of personal growth and maturing through the hard lessons learned from his various failed relationships and impulsive behavior of the past. He has a good heart, and he loves his daughter and is devoted to her happiness.

This is one of the best Harlequin Heartwarming books I have read because of the great pacing and because this new Harlequin author took care to pay attention to having great chapter endings, great segues between chapters, and great dialogue between the characters.

Highly-recommended to fans of clean romance/clean fiction, small-town romance, and Southern romance.

My Thoughts on The Sheriff's Second Chance:

Get ready to lose yourself and your heart within the pages of The Sheriff's Second Chance.  Georgie is a set in her ways tomboy with lots of past hurts to heal.  Mike is a single dad of a precocious eight-year-old little girl who's afraid to love, yes even her.

I loved getting to know the characters in this novel.  They really felt like some of my new best friends.  I did find that I could not relate to the "shop" talk because I literally know nothing about cars and did not connect with Georgie this way.

However, I did connect with her in the way that I feel a lot of people will with that she's insecure but doesn't show it.  Raise hands now ladies.  How many of us are insecure but put on a good front?  Yeap I'm seeing all those raised hands.

I loved how the author made the characters so loveable and yet still human in that they make mistakes and have to fix and get over things.  Great read.  Wonderful characters and I really liked the feel of how the author wrote.  It flowed as a good story should!

When my print copy arrived in the mail I was pleasantly surprised at how thick this book was!  I had been expecting just a short fast read like most of the Harlequin Heartwarming books are.  But no!  This book is thick and though you may want to you're not going to finish it in one or two hours while the baby naps. Ask me how I know this. . . .

So get ready to set aside a few evenings to read this book because your heart will be warmed and you'll become invested in the lives of Georgie and Mike. Happy reading!

An entertaining, out-of-the box romance!

If you enjoy small town stories with second chance romances, this is a book for you. I found Georgie Bennett’s occupation as a mechanic interesting. Her selfless spirit of helping others is admirable, especially considering the disappointments she’s faced. Law enforcement officer and single dad Mike Harrison is a great hero, trying to balance honor and duty, while providing for his lively daughter, Rachel.

The community of Hollydale, with an assortment of fascinating characters, is a warm place to be. There’s a crime to be solved, a Thunderbird to restore, and a rusty relationship to fix. Great story with a precious finale. I’m looking forward to future books by author Tanya Alger with more visits to Hollydale. Doesn’t a peach cobbler cookie from the Night Owl Bakery sound delicious?

Favorite quotes:
Family. In Hollydale, everyone seemed to help one another. If they trusted you, that is.
“Friendship is like this car. Too much rust can damage what was once shiny and new.”
“Your voice sounds official, but your eyes say romance and dreams and second chances.”
Wishing never solved anything. Hard work and duty did.

This was a fun book to read!
I liked Georgie and her spunk and determination to be successful as a woman mechanic. Even after she returns to her hometown to take care of her mother (who she doesn’t get along with) and has several mishaps with the local townspeople; she is still determined to help others and to make a difference. She runs into her old friend, police officer and single dad Mike but things don’t really go smoothly from the beginning.
I liked reading about Georgie and Mike’ past and current friendship as they worked together in the town and on old cars. I especially loved Georgie working with the local women to help empower and educate them on basic car maintenance. Both characters had past emotions to work thru and communication to help their friendship to move forward.
This was an easy story to read with great characters in a small town. There was clean romance and an element of drama and intrigue as Office Mike tried to figure out who was breaking and entering into local businesses in the area and to try and clean Georgie’s name.
I really enjoyed reading this book!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Tanya Agler’s first book The Sheriff’s Second Chance is a good story with believable characters. Add a little romance and mystery and she has a winner.

Officer Mike Harrison is a dedicated single father to the precocious Rachel. Georgia’s reluctant return to her hometown of Hollydale, carries all the pain it brought her from her childhood and the best friend who betrayed her, Mike. Georgia temporarily works for Max in his auto repair until she can finally achieve her dream job of being on Brett Cullinan’s racing pit crew. Until she hears from Brett she only wants to keep her head down and avoid as much contact with the Hollydale folks, especially Officer Mike.

However, that’s no longer possible due to Max’s shop being burglarized. A string of burglaries in the otherwise peaceful Hollydale has the current sheriff wondering if Georgia’s sudden return has something to do with it. Officer Mike hopes that Georgia isn’t the culprit, but circumstances make that difficult.

Georgie tries to keep her once-best friend at arm’s length, but that becomes more and more difficult. The same holds true with Officer Mike.

Lots of twists and turns and the mystery has a surprising ending.

Great, clean read for teens to adults.

Georgie and Mike were close in high school but after a colossal error in judgment, Mike gave up on Georgie ever forgiving him. Now that she's back in town after all those years away, Mike hopes for a chance to make amends but now must put her on the top of a suspect list for break-ins around town.
Georgie has big plans that don't include her small home town or handsome police office Mike, but working in the garage and the opportunity to restore an old car sound appealing. A lovable dog, and adorable but precocious girl named Rachel and Georgie’s eccentric mother added to the mix make leaving hard, but what about Mike, her old friend who is suddenly evoking all kinds of new feelings she never expected?
As Georgie and Mike contemplate their plans for the future, who or what keeps putting all those obstacles in their path that just might make them want to take the long way around?
Tanya Agler's debut novel is a sweet romance full of small town values and small town eccentricity that come together for the perfect setting in this lighthearted love story. I highly recommend The Sheriff's Second Chance and look forward to Ms. Agler's next release.

Such a sweet story that was a treat to read at night. I loved the characters and the history they had, very relatable to anyone from small town USA. I’ll buy one of Tanya’s other books, an easy and fun read.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Sheriff's Second Chance by Tanya Agler is a sweet romance about a cop and a mechanic trying to make things right again.
Will Georgie forgive Mike for what he did in the past and present?
Georgie Bennett
Georgie is one of the main characters and love interest. She is a different type of character than I excepted and I love it. Georgie's mom, Barbara, is the classic Southern lady who wants the same out of her tomboy daughter. Instead of wearing dresses though Georgie wanted to work on cars. She is a mechanic and apparently a really good one that loves to work on old cars.

What I like about Georgie is that she is a tomboy and she doesn't care what other people think. Well, she does but she doesn't let it show or let it hurt her in public. She is a strong character who has a lot of development in this book. The one thing that I dislike about her is that she lets her stubbornness rule her decision making.
Mike Harrison
Mike is the other main character and love interest as well. He is a cop who wants to be a good father to his little eight-year-old daughter. Sadly though Mike was raising her without really being present like his parents were. Sure he is there but he isn't putting his love in it. Georgie made him realize that and he is better with her, his best friend, to help him out. Georgie also helps him realize that maybe he should be more than just a deputy.

The Sheriff's Second Chance CRWhat I like about Mike is that he realizes all of this and wants to become better. For his daughter and for Georgie. It just took him a while to realize that and that is what I like since it wasn't instantaneous. Mike is a very lovable guy especially when he is about duty and love for the people that he cares about.
Five Stars
The Sheriff's Second Chance by Tanya Agler is a hilarious sweet romantic book that kept me guessing the entire time. I loved that it was like that since it kept me invested in wanting to know if I am right. Georgie and Mike make a great couple even if it took them a while to figure that out. Which is why I am giving it five stars and recommending it to all the sweet romance readers out there.

Welcome to the family Ms. Agler this is a fantastic first book with Harlequin.

Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of The Sheriff's Second Chance by Tanya Agler.

Thank you in advance to the author, Tanya Agler, and JustRead Publicity Tours for providing a complimentary review copy. A positive review was not required. All words and thoughts are my own.

This is Agler’s debut album, and she is a welcome addition to the Harlequin Heartwarming line that was published in January.

Some broken things cannot be fixed – namely hearts.

It’s clear that Mike and Georgie still have feelings for each other. But, neither one can get over their broken hearts. Mike caused Georgie’s on the night of their senior prom by standing her up – Mike’s was caused by his wife leaving him with their infant daughter.

And, Georgie still hasn’t forgotten that night. Her mother hasn’t forgotten it either.

Even Mike doesn’t believe in second chances. Yet, he wants a second chance to make things right with Georgie. He still loves her.

What makes matters worse? Georgie is considered a suspect in the burglary of the garage. Right off Agler starts with not only the “failed” romance of these two, but a bit of suspense in the burglaries.

The suspense, which is a “low-key” mystery more than anything, and not a dark one – is solved at the end of chapter 17. Or is it? Turns out that Georgie is still a suspect in the one unsolved mystery – the garage she works at.

The story’s focus remains more on solving the burglaries and the restoration of Mike’s Thunderbird, left to him by his grandfather. And, the romance has its ups and downs throughout.

I was both in love, and deeply frustrated with Mike and Georgie. Still, I understand where they were coming from with their experiences. And, it was heart-breaking to see this happen. Mike’s daughter was endearing and sweet. I love how she adjusted to Georgie and wanted her to “fix her daddy”.

Georgie is a strong, but not overwhelming character. I enjoyed the idea of her being a “pit crew” member. As a NASCAR fan, it was definitely a sweet take. Her father’s accident was a bit close to one that happened in 2001 at Daytona. And, after the Daytona accident Ryan Newman had on Monday (2/19/2020 – rain delayed); it might be a bit upsetting for some.

There are so many emotions with this – frustration, heartwarming (which is obvious given the serious), with elements of humor. Agler’s writing keeps the story at an even pace without rushing the novel. But, it was difficult to stop at the chapters because it was that engaging.

Agler surprises reader with the reveal of the criminal who did break into the garage and the motive is really endearing. It is still heart-breaking in one sense.

As usual – these have the typical “happy every after” ending.

For those looking for a non-Christian, but clean romance – this book (and the Heartwarming collection) is definitely one to pick up. And, Agler is an author to look forward to reading.

From the looks of her website, it looks like this won’t be our first and only visit to Hollydale, NC. As this is the first book in what appears to be a series, this is definitely a standalone read.

Mike Harrison just wants to make his daughter's life the best it can be. A difficult goal, given he's her only parent and a bunch of burglaries are keeping him extra busy trying to catch the perps. Oh, and he doesn't want to be sheriff, even though lots of people in town keep telling him he should run for the job. Then there's the Thunderbird his grandfather once owned. No longer in pristine condition, the car calls out to the one mechanic who can bring her back to her previous condition. That mechanic is Georgie Bennett, finally back home because her mother just had heart surgery.

But Mike also deserted Georgie at the senior prom. Can they be within ten feet of each other and not still hurt?

Georgie agrees to fix up the car, even in the face of the sheriff's suspicion that she is the one who broke into the office and stole some classic comic books worth thousands of dollars, enough thousands for her to take over the car repair shop. She knows she didn't do it, and Mike knows she didn't do it, but his position forces him to act as if he distrusts her.

How's this all going to work out? It'll take not just the finished car but Mike's daughter and Georgie's friends to make everything right.

I really like Georgie, Mike and Rachel. Georgie is such a strong woman and when she comes back to town, everything goes wrong and right. First thing she meets Mike, the one guy she really didn't want to see. He is now a deputy and he thinks she might have stolen some valuable comic books. As if. She and Mike have a past and Georgie really needs to forgive him for something that happened in their youth. They are both old enough to get over it. Mike is now a single father and so much more appealing that he had been in high school. Georgie is only there until she gets on a pit crew. She is a master mechanic and has been waiting for this chance. She shook off the town dust before and she can do it again. The problem is that there is a wonderful single father and his beautiful daughter that makes her want to stay in one place. Will she stay? Can they forget their past?

A new author to read and such fun to read. A second chance romance with a twist. Best friends Georgie Bennett and Mike Harrison have a second chance? Its a story about acceptance and coming to terms of who you are as a person. A person once asked what a heartwarming was. Its a sweet romance that takes time to fall in love. Not a week but months. That's the joy of each of these books. I love the way Tanya writes this story. For there are little twists to the story that add depth to this story. I love the way Tanya gives Georgie a non traditional job for there are a few of them out there. The ending is even more special. I look forward to her next book. I wonder if Lucie's story will be next. Georgie's new best friend. J

Tanya Agler's Harlequin Heartwarming book is a small town/second chance romance. Georgie Bennett returns to Hollydale to work as a mechanic at Max's Auto Repair. She had been friends with officer Michael Harrison until he broke her heart when they were teens. Now they are once again living in the same small town--she with her mother and he with his young daughter, Rachel. They get to know each other again and decide to give their friendship a fresh start. Their story is a clean romance, with interesting characters, a lovable dog, and a beloved Thunderbird in desperate need of repair. It's a fun read.
