Lorsque le colonel Protheroe est retrouvé mort dans le bureau du presbytère, tué d’une balle dans la tête, personne n’est surpris : cet homme à l’épouvantable caractère était très impopulaire. On l’a vu se disputer violemment avec le Dr Stone, et le pasteur lui-même a déclaré que quiconque tuerait le colonel rendrait service à tout le monde. Mais tandis que la police porte ailleurs ses soupçons, Miss Marple endosse le rôle de détective et mène sa propre enquête au village, où les suspects ne manquent pas…

Tout ce beau monde vit dans un institut pour jeunes délinquants. Une maison de fous, dit l'infirmière qui soigne Carrie-Louise avec dévouement.
Car Carrie-Louise souffre d'une étrange maladie qui présente quelques analogies avec un empoisonnement à l'arsenic. Le drame finira par éclater. Mais la victime n'est pas celle qu'on pense..

Her books sold more than a billion copies in the English language and a billion in translation. According to Index Translationum, people translated her works into 103 languages at least, the most for an individual author. Of the most enduring figures in crime literature, she created Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She atuhored The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in the history of modern theater.
