The Principal Investigator of the Chaalt people, has covertly enlisted the aid of Nathan Myers and the crew of the Legacy. They desperately need help gaining access to their secret Prule research station. The facility has gone dark, and the automated defenses activated. Even the Chaalt's own advanced warships have not been able to breach the shield dome and disable the cutting edge weaponry that protects the base. Nathan and his crew are in a race against time, because they believe a Prule Hivemind they had once captured, now controls the facility. If the Hivemind is able to assimilate the Chaalt tech, it could escape and endanger the entire galaxy. If it can return to Andromeda, the Prule will reverse engineer the technology and return with the means to prevail in the second invasion of the Milky Way galaxy. Nathan, Justice, and the crew of the Legacy, will do whatever it takes to prevent that outcome or die trying.
Marc Stevens is the pen name of a retired building contractor in central Missouri. Marc is a married father of two and an avid outdoorsman. His love of science fiction inspired him to start writing.
There's no sense of risk in this story. This team and ship have invisibility, portal jumping, the strongest blasters, the best sensors, near imperviousness, secure communications, magic computer hacking and more. They are so over-powered as to make every mission a milk-run.
I also don't like the idea that berserker rage is somehow a secret weapon. If that were true, our planet's only sapient species wouldn't have risen to dominance. In the real-world anger doesn't solve problems, quite the contrary.
And finally, the most irritating item; the personality of the Chalt's super-spy/general. I can't remember her name. She was ex-girlfriend crazy. Running hot and cold in unpredictable patterns. Taking the time during battle to question plans that were already agreed to. Acting without consultation, despite having the time. Is this a person that rose to the pinnacle of a very dangerous profession? No, this is a teenage valley-girl who can't buy the shade of lipstick she needs.
I’m not quite sure why I continue to read this series. The general construction and grammatical errors have only increased, and the violence is frequently excessively bloody and graphic. Perhaps it’s because our hero remains good-hearted and the majority of violence strikes coarsely defined aliens? I had hopes that the author’s writing would improve (it doesn’t). Perhaps he will review, edit and release a second version for the rest of this series?
It’s an okay book, shorter than the last 2 , to tell the truth it has become just a series of battles where the outcome is assured, an I found it a bit tedious. It ends many of the open storylines but opens many more. I just want them to get on with it and go after the real enemy because the rest is getting boring.
This one was almost as good as the first two books in the series. The only thing that kept me from giving it a 5 star rating was that the whole Sael thing became little too much and irritating about a third through the book. I get it. She's a mean old witch with a b. Get over it already.
Excellent addition to the series! The long anticipated wait was finally over and I savored it. Looking forward to the next installment with anticipation!
Loved it! I awaited the book with anticipation and was not disappointed. I love the characters and the interaction with each other. great read and anxiously await the next in this awesome series. well done sir.
Mistakes: I started finding mistakes at the 82% mark on this book. Plot: More enemies are found. Not as much cash loot. Characters: I still find the Operative annoying. 8/10
Man, what a party. When it rains it pours and it seems Eiger is more slippery than an eel in a vat of vaseline. I say put the Dawg down and to hell with the Murlak race. Go get em Nathan, thanks for a GoodRead.
I am so glad we decided to give the first book in this series a chance. It has turned out to be one of the best. It has if action, lots of humor, and great characters, and a great story line. If you are into SciFi, then we highly recommend this series.
Can our hero go anywhere without making enemies? It looks like he can’t. We now have two potentials and can he get out of it? It looks like we’ll have to see in our next episode of Nathan vs everyone else. Lol.
This 3rd book in this series is just as good as the previous 2. With lots of action and suspense as well as interesting characters it will keep you wanting more.
Again, this book delivers on his action, pack, sequences and character development. I continue to like a pop of good versus bad. Especially in the bad gets there ass kicked.
Loved the first 2 books. Blinding. But this one had little substance and it finished abruptly. Come on sort it out. Who kidnapped the author. The Grawl
Great entry in the series, the development of the story's universe and the ancient races tech is interesting. I've always enjoyed story's that involve precursor races.
I absolutely enjoy this series. I have tried to compare this story to others.. but can’t think of really any I’ve read that are like it.. the First Of My Kind series is sort of like The Expanse.. only in way of the main characters sort of being rouge, their own entity and trying to make a difference. This series takes that rouge element and blows it up, more advanced tech makes for more possibilities and a much faster pace. This series stands apart in ways I haven’t come across before and has taught me that I’ve grown accustomed to books where it’s 90% build up and character development and then the final battle and the book is over. There were multiple times in this book that I had to check how far along I was because I was worried I’d almost gotten to the end already, the action was that good and significant that I thought it may be the final battle. I know other authors that would have no doubt taken the exit and ended their book.
I feel like so much happened in this book and yet at the same time feel like we are just scratching the surface because of The scale and scope the author engineered into this beautifully crafted story, the possibilities are endless. There is so much that can happen, he didn’t write himself into a pre determined path restricted by a military or the standard good vs galaxy killers sort of thing. The First Of My Kind story advances with missions. I once compared this series to something like Mass Effect, where in order to progress the story you complete missions, but even the scope of that game seems tiny compared to the world in which Nathan Myers is fighting to make a difference.
I love this series. So many layers. Exciting to not know what’s going to happen and to know the author has left this world wide open for exploration.
Things to note: Writing left me a little disorientated (not physically) at times.
Advice for the author: Don’t use up all the cool stuff, gosh I hate to say that.. what I mean is I would hate to see this story boil down to “it’s the same thing but stronger” type scenario, like DBZ in a way.
...man there is just so much that can happen, thinking back about it now... you even introduced us to those unidentifieds.. don’t forget about them!
What another great action packed read. You humor makes me laugh out loud. Love all the characters and the changes in them as they evolve. The back and forth between them all. Wish you can add some earth music to the crew they could use a little AC/DC. Love the bit of romance in this one and the new sometimes team member be good to have another new crew member to shake the boys up. I worry that his grandparents will be dead before he returns to earth I wish he could communicate with them. Can’t wait for your next book.
