Basil Railsdon tries to cover up a fatal accident which could end his career in Parliament, but the investigation of his half-sister's murder threatens to bring it to light
Laura Raymond the illegitimate half sister to Basil Railsdon, Tory MP for Loxford is found dead by carbon monoxide poisoning in an outhouse, the local police are called to investigate and are certain it was murder but are unsure how the case will unfold due to the popularity of the main suspect. Detective Chief Superintendent Pollard and Inspector Toye of Scotland Yard are called in to investigate and soon discover that a missing child may also form part of the case.
Another unusual murder mystery that needs the expertise of DCS Pollard and DI Toye from Scotland Yard to determine " whodunnit". These mysteries are a delight to read because they are so well written and have engaging characters. I hate to reach the end of each one!
1982 Basil Railsdon, future MP for Loxford Village, while speeding kills a young child and then hids the body. But was he seen. Then he discovers he has a half-sister, Laura Raymond, one whom is certainly not of their set. On a visit it seems that thankfully for everyone involved she dies. Was it an accident. Pollard and Toye are brought in to investigate. An entertaining mystery
Rather slow. The culprit was fairly easy to guess but the story worked well. A couple of the characters seemed anachronistic. Against that it was a solid story as are all in this series.
