Nerds Who Knot #3

The Bond-Cut Omega

Rate this book
Gabe thinks he’ll never have a bond of his own. He’s bond-cut, which means his scent gland is so scarred, he can’t bond to anyone—not even his best friend, Marcus, who he’s been in love with for six years.

Gabe spends every waking moment with Marcus. They co-own a tattoo parlor and share an apartment. It was Gabe who gave Marcus the vibrant bird tattoos all over his body. But Gabe never plans to tell Marcus about his feelings. Marcus deserves a bond.

Marcus may be huge, even for an alpha, but everyone knows he’s a marshmallow at heart. He’s not going to pressure his bond-cut best friend into a romantic relationship he may not want. Until Gabe’s heat starts early, and a series of accidents lead to a dangerous pregnancy that exposes their true feelings for one another and rocks the foundation of their friendship.

In a world where bonds are everything, can love be enough on its own?

The Bond-Cut Omega is a 35,000-word best-friends-to-lovers romance with knotting, MPreg, manties, and hurt/comfort. It’s a companion book for the Nerds Who Knot Series, but it stands alone.

My new favorite of the series! The two reasons for that were 1) The two MCs, Gabe and Marcus were just astounding! and 2) the awesome world-building the author did delving into what the whole "bond-cut" thing meant and just how it affected someone who was and any partner they had. This story brought me to tears so many times I lost count. Despite pretending (to myself anyway) that I hated all the crying in the end I really truly loved it. It is amazing when and author can't bring forth such strong emotion in their reader. What an incredible touching experience this book was!

Gabe and Marcus are best friends, work together and live together. Gabe is tattooer and Marcus does piercings. Gabe, an omega, is in love with his best friend already for a long time and if he wasn’t bond-cut he even would try to start something with Marcus. But he wishes more for Marcus, someone who he can bond with.

Marcus is one big alpha with a fragile heart. In love with his best friend, but aware Gabe will never love him as he wishes.

When Gabe’s heat starts earlier than planned, Gabe knows he can ask Marcus for help and comfort. What he gets is more than he ever could imagine.

Yeah I cried, hard. They were just so sweet and heartwarming adorable.
Feelings sky high and I loved it!
Smoothly written story, fast-paced and very enjoyable. I loved the clear style of writing.
With lovable personalities and needy sexual scenes. It had a kind, original and emotional plot, where old memories ugly resurface and in the way, where painful memories complete shine in the present, where a resolute partner exactly knows how to fight for what is right.
I loved this story!

It was alright but not the best haha I think that the constant thought Gabe was having thinking he wasn’t good enough for Marcus was annoying.. it’s like he wouldn’t listen to Marcus or anyone else when they said he was fully in to Gabe…

This book can definitely be read on its own, had no connection to book one, and I didn’t read book two.

Also side note when naming babies.. Gull should never be a name option.. Wren was so much better 😂😂😂

Now on to book four the real reason I read this series.

It says a lot about how well a book is written when it has one MC doing one of the top 3 things that is guaranteed to piss me off when reading a romance novel: That is one MC completely ignoring the other MC REPEATEDLY telling them that they want to be in a relationship with them. That they love and are choosing them, but the other MC ignores this and is like "No. I'm pushing you away for your own good. You can't change my mind no matter how many times you tell me that you love me and want to spend the rest of your life with me. Goodbye" To be fair, I completely understand where Gabe was coming from given everything that he'd gone through, but I still wanted to shake him 😂 Overall, this book was fabulous, and I didn't think anything could surpass The Bookmobile Baby for me.

"I’ve realized family isn’t always the people you’re born to. Family can also be the people you find along the way. But maybe there are times when the person who gives you life can be family too, even if they can’t give you anything else—even if they need a little time to figure it all out. I’m not quite sure what family is yet. All I know is that I have one."

PS: I'm pretty open minded when it comes to unique baby names, but this book has one of the worst baby names I've ever seen on page. What's worse is that the other two names that Gabe and Marcus were considering were super cute! UGH

This started out pretty good. But slowly the insecurities and angst became too frustrating for me.

Gabe had a rough childhood. He had to make a living and became a sex worker when he was in his teens. Since he is an omega, he had his scent gland scarred on purpose so he could not be forced into a bond by an alpha client. Of course this means he will never be able to bond with someone.

Gabe now runs a tattoo parlor with his best friend Marcus. They met in juvie and have been inseparable ever since. Marcus is a big bad alpha, only without the bad. He is a big man, but also very sweet. And he’s been in love with Gabe since forever. But Marcus thinks Gabe doesn’t want him. Or can’t want him because of his scarred scent gland.

Gabe has been equally in love with Marcus for all these years. But Gabe wants Marcus to find someone who can give him a real bond.

When Gabe goes into heat early and Marcus comes home, their inner omega and alpha can’t resist each other any longer, so they end up in bed together. It is after Gabe’s heat that they finally admit the truth to each other. But Gabe still feels he isn’t good enough for Marcus. And even though Gabe is now pregnant, Gabe still thinks Marcus should be with someone else…

I was hoping for a sweet friends to lovers mpreg story, but what we got was one angsty story. I didn’t like how insecure Gabe was all the time and how he kept pushing Marcus away. And then we had Marcus’ fathers making Gabe even more insecure. It was all a big mess.

I did want to know what happened so it wasn’t all bad, but I can’t say I really enjoyed this.

He probably doesn't want to hear about the skills I picked up from the sex work I did years ago. He always goes off on how I was too young and my pimp was a criminal. And that's all true. What he doesn't understand is that I didn't hate all of it. In a lot of ways, it was like giving someone a really great tattoo. I liked making people happy.

This is easily my favourite installment in the series, although I do suspect that I imagined the protagonists pretty differently from the author (I'm not the best in visualising characters but with those two, especially Marcus, I had a surprisingly "clear" (read foggy) image that was then repeatedly slammed by the descriptions in the story 😂

Anyway, this is a story about two best friends who love each other, but who both think (for moderately reasonable reasons) that relationship between them isn't possible. I really want to talk about Marcus, but I guess we need to talk about Gabe first for this to make sense. Gabe used to be a teen sex-worker as a result of which he was both bond-cut (meaning he can't ever form a mating bond with anyone) and ended up in youth detention center (juvie) where he met Marcus, who was there for shoplifting which he did to impress an omega he had a crush on. They became friends and when they got out they started living together and opened tattoo parlor together.

At the point of the story where we meet them, each of them clearly loves the other person, but for Gabe those feelings are very much wrapped in his low self-esteem (because he feels like he can't offer Marcus a real relationship because of being bond-cut) and although I do understand those feelings it's not much of a fun to read or very endearing. On the other hand, Marcus is such a sweetheart, he loved Gabe for years, but since a lot of bond-cut people don't actually experience sexual attraction at all, he doesn't believe that type of relationship would be possible between them. And alright, he could have just asked, but what does he do instead? He still makes Gabe his person, he takes care of him and... I was just reminded of the very specific fanfic trope where one of the person in the relationship believes they are already a couple and just taking it slow while the other is completely clueless.

What I mean to say, Marcus was just perfect. Gabe was completely clueless. And I was here for that! I loved that part of the story so much that I was honestly a little disappointed that they started acting on their feelings. The pining was just cut criminally short and I was almost wishing for some honest miscommunication! (The blasphemy... this is very much a first for me...)

I guess you can figure how the rest of the book went and I wasn't a fan of all of that but... still my favourite in the series.

Anyway, I'm loving the pieces of casual queerness we are getting - asexual character, trans characters... it's just quite nice and the worldbuilding around this is interesting.

"No," she interrupts me. "I'm not 'damaged.' I was ace before I paid a doctor to cut my scent gland. I got sick of my parents assuming my sexuality was a phase.

Overall, I am bigger fan of the series than I expected and I am definitely interested in reading more by Bellows, although I am not quite sure which series I want to try yet.

This was quite a bit different than the first two books in the series and I was disappointed not to see either of the first two couples. The story was mostly one guy being completely insecure and sort of dumb trying to be a martyr. The other guy was a big marshmallow of an alpha that was nothing but a sweetheart.

It was sort of "meh" to me and I had a hard time with the fact that they named their daughter Gull. They were like what do want to name her, Wren, Gull, Robin? I am partial to Gull. Gull it is. Trying not to a judgmental garbage person, but I just couldn't with Gull.

Urban Dictionary - Bondmate : The joining of two souls that are bound to be together. Soul mates, bonds...

... of the heart can't be broken.

The Bond-Cut Omega is a book like no other I read in the Omegaverse. It deals with issues that aren't , usually addressed. Young Omegas forced into prostitution and in consequence, their bonding glands are removed , as not to bond , accidentally , with a ' John ' . And how drastic measures as such, can and/or will impact their future lives.

Amy Bellows has beautifully written a deeply thoughtful and emotionally charged story .

There is so much love between Gabe and Marcus our heroes ; as well as, guilt, fear, shame and anxiety that more than few times had me in tears.

With that said, I want to point out , this is also a quirky and humorous romance story with a swooning HEA.

' information about how a bond-cut can affect someone’s sexuality. Most of it’s stuff I’ve read before until I reach a section called “Identifying as Demisexual After a Bond-Cut.” That’s new. It discusses bond-cut omegas who “do not experience sexual attraction unless they form a strong emotional connection to someone” and how “all romantic relationships start out as friendships”

It was a real treat reading this eloquent , well crafted and insightful story.

This is my second book by Ms. Bellows and she is rapidly becoming an one-click author for me.

This was a sweet story. The main characters seemed real to me. Every relationship has insecurities and Amy Bellows brought that out. Would have given the book four stars but I wanted to see the couples from the first two books in here.

Shock of the year, this was amazing

I'm going to try and write a decent review but, I have to admit, Amy Bellows is quite literally my favorite romance author. But there's a reason for that. Hopefully I can explain.

I was low-key saving this book for a time when I was either going through a reading slump or felt like I needed a mental break. This definitely fit the bill. Is this Amy's best work? No, she has grown immensely as a writer. But it's pretty it's still pretty damn good which is kind of amazing. If you read as much as I do, you know sometimes going into an author's backlist isn't always the best decision but Amy's always been solid. So if you're coming over from penguins and polar bears, fear not, you're going to have a good time.

On to the actual review.

For a book that talks about asexuality and demisexuality, there is a lot of smut here. I was not mad about it in any way shape or form. I actually thought it was pretty dope. A lot of people think Ace people are plans and that Demi folk don't exist so this was really nice to see. I also really enjoyed how nobody was out rightly the villain here. The arguments and struggles were logical and made sense. Granted, Gabe did get on my nerves just a little bit but thank God for Charles for puttin' that baby in his place.

Now if I may fangirl for a moment, this book made me really emotional for reasons I am still trying to unpack. Gabe and Marcus just worked for me. This book is really short and yet there are a lot of emotions and a lot of heart packed in. Bias aside, Amy could teach a class on time management and pacing. I usually don't even like wedding scenes in books and yet I was tearing up. Every time Gade thought he was doing what was best for Marcus I felt my heart breaking. I loved Marcus's parents and I love the friendships. But when we got to their past, and learned what Gabe was forced to give up. The fact that these characters were imperfect?? I mean eff me dead and bury me pregnant I was not ready!

I loved this but I knew that was going to be the case. As with all of Amy's books, it was ethical, it was honest, and it was so incredibly heartfelt. If I could give it more than five stars I would. I'm biased for a reason.

i just put on heaven from the fifty shades soundtrack spotify tracking is done we're so back eesha's dirty little secret era of romance is sooo back

this was so very bad ❤️ like so so bad the writing is wattpad level, there are so many random lines i had issues with (also white people are crazy. wdym ur favorite food is grilled cheese. that's crazy to me. forget your dick piercing bruh ur taste buds need to be pierced w flavors from different cultures. and THEN wdym thats too hard of a dish to make. it's very self explanatory and also you're like thiry years old), and the overarching plot of their self worth issues was so YAWN. but ofc i read the entire thing and enjoyed myself. if not to hate a teensy bit. but like i had fun! (also transgenderism in omegaverse is real....)

anyway this was bad enough to kill my mood i dont want any more romance for tonight (ill probably reread a trusted fave. i love my reread romances i love romance my stress relief forever and ever) but i hope romance authors never stop writing shitty omegaverse it keeps the urges at bay since i dont read fanfiction during the schoolyear. that image that says protect bad drag thats me w bad omegaverse novels.

This was cute! What I appreciated midday was that the primary focus WAS on the relationship between the two MCs, not on the whole Omega heat sex-fest many books in this sub-genre fall back to. 3.5/5 stars rounded up to 4

Naughty nerds with a whole lot of sweet!

I enjoyed reading this Bond-Cut Omega. It has all the elements of omega/ mpreg stories I love. Yet it’s so much deeper! I love that love is love and it doesn’t have to fit the conventional beliefs. This book has all the feels and the spicy moments! Can’t wait to read more by the author!

Definitely the best one so far.

After spending so much time with Alex and Charles, I’ve realized family isn’t always the people you’re born to. Family can also be the people you find along the way.
But maybe there are times when the person who gives you life can be family too, even if they can’t give you anything else—even if they need a little time to figure it all out.
I’m not quite sure what family is yet.
All I know is that I have one.

Not my favorite Amy Bellows book, but it was so very her. We are met with a typical omegaverse world with 2 oblivious idiots so clearly I love with each other it was getting cringy. I perked up upon hearing the term 'pregnancy heat' and remembered why I love Amy Bellows. Very good world building and I did get just a little misty eyed at the warm tender feelings. I love stories like these that do unorthodox pairings. in this case an omega who cut his bonding gland as a teen and thus was unable to offer a traditional bond to the alpha he fell in love with. The whole adoption thing got kind of messy and the in-law drama felt glossed over. I would've preferred a longer story to address those points, but it is what it is. And that's a decent omegaverse romance with plenty of feels and Amy Bellows' kinky-ass spirit.

I think my biggest qualm was that poetry from book 1 was mentioned but once again no actual prose was written!! Give me ass poetry AB, you tease!!!

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-
Away-book like
‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd,
‘Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya,
‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or
'Liberty' from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a
WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey’s books)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few
times a year (most romances where you can
enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader,
maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-
reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but
it was ok). It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too
many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole
line, dismissed, repeat the class

This was an interesting read, especially with the whole concept of bond-cutting. The quality of writing was pretty good; I definitely wanted to keep coming back to it. I don't have much else to say on this, except for two things, and the second part is extremely unimportant, so feel free to skip that.

1) Even though Charles, Marcus' dad, apologized for what he said and eventually redeemed himself by helping Gabe with something huge later on, I still did not like him. I'm glad that it was revealed later on that he kept apologizing for his initial offense, but what really rubbed me the wrong way about Charles was how he treated Gabe the next time he saw him. He just acted in a holier-than-thou manner that pissed me off.

It was made clear from the beginning that Charles doesn't like Gabe, yet when Charles comes to see Gabe to apologize, he says that he always liked Gabe. But when Gabe says something out of insecurity, this bitch got all haughty and hypocritical: "Well, when you’ve removed your head from your ass and you’re ready to be a part of my family, please let me know. We would love to welcome you to our ranks." Are you kidding me? You apparently couldn't tolerate Gabe for the past 6 years and you're now making it seem like Gabe is the one with the problem? 😤 And what annoyed me even more was that after Charles left with a stupid comment about him being "not the sort of omega you should cross", Gabe suddenly thinks that he might like Charles after all. ....What the hell is happening? I didn't know how I was supposed to feel after I read that, but peeved with Gabe and pissed at Charles' bitchy attitude was probably not what the author was going for.

2) Let me preface this by saying that I am all about out-of-the-norm names and gender-swapped baby names. I have a real fascination with names and I've spent the past few years going through baby name books, comparing their meanings and histories, and thinking about how I like certain ones as gender-neutral or completely reversed. I have lists of names that I've picked out that I like the best and lists of names for potential writing projects. So I am all about the potential of names, ok? And yet, when I found out what their baby's name was....oh my. Obviously authors can name their characters whatever the hell they want; I fully expect and support that. I'm just saying that with my initial reaction, it was like the MCs had this whole spectrum of colors to choose from and they chose beige. I loved that it was different and based on something the MCs really liked (birds), but...Gull? Really?

Performance: 4 Stars
Story: 4.5 Stars

This book may have one of the most attention-grabbing opening lines ever, and I was all ears from there.

Omega Gabe and alpha Marcus have secretly loved each other since becoming best friends as teenagers, but misconceptions and insecurities surrounding Gabe being bond-cut have prevented either from pursuing more. When long-hidden desires are revealed during Gabe's heat, their relationship takes a turn and their already intertwined lives only gets more complicated - and it's an intimate, painful, hopeful, and heartwarming journey worth taking.

I'm such a fan of this author's skillful ability to create interesting and unique worlds regardless of page count, and put their own unique spin on established tropes. Here, it's an omegaverse best friends-to-lovers hurt/comfort love story that's rich in character depth and runs the emotional gamut - longing, loss, heartbreak, hope, love (of course)...and more. And cheers for demisexual and asexual representation in this story as well.

Narrator Lance West delivers a solid performance that I enjoyed, though the different character voices didn't sound all that distinct to me. I received this free review copy audio book by request and have left this honest review voluntarily.

A beautiful best-friends to lovers tale!!!

Another endearing, heartwarming and passionate tale from Amy! I love her writing, stories and the world she has created and this story is no exception! A truly beautiful (and a little heart-breaking) best-friends to lovers story. Gabe and Marcus are just perfect together.

With Gabe's past as a street worker, his omega scent gland is scarred and he feels he can never bond but has been in love with his best friends Marcus basically since they met. Marcus has always been a bit of a teddy bear type Alpha and was protective and caring of Gabe from the moment they met. As they grew up and shared their lives together they never gave in or told each other their true feelings. They have been best friends forever until a heat related mishap forces their hand and they are forced to face some harsh truths until finally all is revealed.

This story has a wonderful, heart melting happy ending and I just loved Gabe and Marcus journey. Definitely a 1-click winner!!

Amy Bellows' The Bond-Cut Omega is the first book in her Nerds Who Knot series.

Apparently as a bond cut omega, Gabe shouldn't be able to bond with an alpha.
When Marcus discovers that his best friend Gabe actually might return his feelings, he pushes Gabe for them to be together. It's a struggle to convince him of that, put an accidental pregnancy pushes things along.

Theirs is a tale of insecurities, fear, angst, and a whole lot of emotion. This friends to lovers romance isn't a quick or natural one, despite the fact that both men have love been in love with the other.

Damn, this book is hot! Gabe in heat is amazingly steamy. And some of their later scenes are just as spicy.

The Bond-Cut Omega is quick and entertaining, in addition to being a unique take on Omegaverse bonds. Amy Bellows has managed to capture all the charm of her previous books in this Nerds Who Knot series. I definitely enjoyed this book.

Such a sweet, short friends to lovers mpreg story. It's receiving five stars from me because of how much I enjoyed the story overall as well as the characters themselves and how their relationship developed. Marcus is the most lovable gentle giant of an alpha that would dote on his best friend, Gabe, if he had the chance whilst Gabe has been in love with Marcus for years but considers himself unworthy because he is a bond cut omega meaning he is unable to form a new bond with an alpha.
There are highs and lows within this book that I felt right along with the characters. Though a shorter book, I felt that we were given a good history of both MC's as well as their current situation. My heart was definitely engaged with the couple and their possible HEA.
A definite recommendation for mpreg fans. This can be read as a standalone and I now need to go back and read the first two books!
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
