Marriage Prey

Rate this book
Mesmerized by her beauty and innocence, Steve Antonelli rescued stranded Robin McAlister and welcomed her to his island hideaway. The vivacious virgin was much too young for the world-weary homicide detective, but her yearning kisses stirred up fierce emotions in him. Still, there was no way he was going to be anyone’s marriage prey.

Annette Broadrick was born on November 26. Her mother read to her until she read to herself. From that time on, books became her closest companions and teachers. She was an only child until the middle of her 16th year when her sister was born.

She married immediately after high school graduation in the middle of her 18th year. Twelve months later she had her first son. She ended up having four sons in seven years. People with children do not need to explain what their life was like for the next 20 years. Those people without children do not want to hear about it. Early on, she became a secretary to supplement the family income. Eventually she became a legal secretary and for 25 years she worked for attorneys in Arizona, Texas, Illinois, and Oregon.

Her love of books followed her throughout her career as a mother and a secretary. By the time her youngest son graduated from high school she decided to write a book of her own. After writing in a spiral notebook for six months, she rented a typewriter and rewrote the book, showed it to a creative writing teacher, who was also a friend, listened to her critique and rewrote her story. Next she showed it to another avid romance reader and carefully listened to her critique. She rewrote her story once again. Next she mailed the manuscript to the Silhouette office in New York. Two months later she received a phone call asking if she'd be willing to do extensive revisions, including cutting one hundred pages. She said yes. This was in January 1984. By the time the book, Circumstantial Evidence, came out in November of that year, she had sold a total of six books.

Since October 1984 Annette has supported herself with her writing. Her career as a published author has also supported her reading habit and in the past five years she has managed to establish a quiet life in the Hill Country of central Texas that soothes as well as stimulates her. She hopes to continue writing the kind of books that readers enjoy.

Shy overprotected innocent heroine meets and falls in love with gorgeous hero. He falls fast and hard for her he proposes marriage but she cruelly rejects him cause she wants to live and experience life before she even thinks about settling down. Two years later she realizes she is not happy with her freedom. She regrets hurting Steve but can he ever forgive her and give her a second chance?

Ok so I hated the heroine. She hurt the hero badly because she was immature and selfish. Poor guy was so smitten my heart broke for him when she rejected him. So the reason I am giving this 4 stars is cause I adored the super nice hero and I loved the angst. I could not put this book down so it deserves 4 stars. If u like noble heroes this book is for you!

Overworked police detective Steve Antonelli really needs a break, so when a family friend offers him the use of his private Caribbean island hideaway, Steve is glad to spend a couple of weeks in his own private paradise. Sure, the owner rents part of his island to a cruise line to use, but there's never been any trouble.

When her aunt and uncle are unable to make their cruise, college student Robin and her BFF Cindi go in their place. Everything is great, until Robin misses the boat back to their cruise ship on a shore excursion to a private island -- leaving her stranded with Steve.

Annette Broadrick is a very good writer. Sentence structure, word choice -- she's excellent at all of the basics of writing. However, the rest of the plot for this one (after Steve and Robin get back to civilization) is like something from 1980 -- or earlier. Robin's brothers realize their baby sister is no longer a virgin, and go after the man she slept with to make him marry her. Which should not be the plot of a book written in 2000, but it is -- and I'm sure a lot of that is the target audience and the Silhouette brand. Still, for a Desire themed book it's barely R-rated and not at all a steamy romance. But it's not a bad book.

D1327 Nov2000 Men on a Mission #4 Robin McAlister and her best friend take the cruise Cindi's parents are unable to go on. Turns out to be a lot more than they expected. Robin goes on an off boat excursion and misses the return boat ride. She meets vacationer, Steve Antonelli, on the private island. He rescues her, letting her stay until the cruise ship returns on it way back.
The first chapter caught my interest and held it right to the visit Steve made to see Robin in Texas. Her reaction was understandable, but that neither of them made any attempt to see the other for two years was unbelievable. Steve was more experienced and why he didn't keep trying is beyond me. Robin's trip and the jealousy she experienced improved the ending. Gotta like her brothers at the beginning and the end!

Started out great....

Honestly most of the story was really good. I hated that towards the half point or the end it suddenly cut two years later and I thought that was way too long to continue the story. At that point I lost interest fast.
