I liked the introductory part (a bit o history). But the actual recipes were a bit beyond what I've expected. Not really for your average to low connoisseur of cocktails. For someone who is a bartender (or wants to be) it may be helpful. I'll give it 5 stars though. I liked it how it was layed out (a bit of history, best alcohols, how were they made etc). Cheers!
This is my go-to reference for cocktail recipes and information on liquors and spirits. The first half of the book gives a two-page overview of the history and production method of the world's most popular beverages, and the second half is all recipes. Beautiful glossy photographs maintain visual interest. Recommended reading for anyone interested in mixology.
The teeny font's a bitch to read and the binding's falling apart already, but for a $5 bargain rack find at Barnes & Noble, this was worth the price. There are numerous bartenders' companions out there for the amateur who wants to mix up something new, but the first half of this book is a history and overview of the most common spirits, liqueurs, and mixers. Nevermind the recipes, this is worth it to learn the difference between curacao and triple sec, and why kirsch is a spirit but cherry brandy is a liqueur.
