Edie's Automotive Guide #2

Fire Trucks, Garter Belts, & My Perfect Ex

Rate this book
The laugh-out-loud, multi-award-winning series is back! Edie's Automotive Volume 2

After facing the same health scare that took her mother, adult film star Vera Eastman sets out on a road trip to finish her mom’s bucket list. First stop, the hometown she escaped the moment she graduated. Her defiant arrival puts her face-to-face with her first love—her first everything—Jack Reeves.

Jack’s still the guy who can steal her heart with a smile, but he hasn’t forgiven her for leaving, and avoiding him proves difficult. Not only is he her grandma’s neighbor, but Grandma pays Jack to mow the lawn shirtless, and his firefighter job has him frequently rescuing Vera, as her ability to find trouble—was it her fault the ladder on the water tower broke?—becomes as formidable a matchmaker as her grandma.

Small-town-itis must be contagious.

That’s the only explanation for Grandma’s stupid cat being in love with Jack’s damn dog, for Vera’s sudden urge to move home, and for her falling for Jack all over again. Eating chocolate body paint out of the jar can’t even help her with this mess. Buckle up for another wild ride through Grenadine!

I voluntarily reviewed an early copy of this book :) this is the second book in Edie's automotive guide series of contemporary romances set in a small town of Grenadine and involving characters that know and interact with each other, but so far both of the stories work perfectly well as standalones :) naturally, if you do read them in order, you will get an advantage of getting to know the main couple of this sequel in the first story, plus the additional knowledge about quite a few secondary characters appearing in this one, which make all those little scenes that much more meaningful, but worry not, you don't need any previous knowledge to enjoy this gem :) now that we have this little explanation out of the way, let me tell you a bit more about our main couple and the plot of this story :)

Like I mentioned before, we met both Vera and Jack in that first book... "Headlights, dipsticks and my ex's brother" if you need the name... and trust me, if you haven't read it yet, you do need it... it was my favourite book of last year for very many reasons :) but back to the topic of this review :) Jack was helping Edie save her autoshop in that story, and was one of the fire fighters who agreed to be part of the auction to raise money... :) and Vera was the one who bid the highest amount on Jack... little did we know, these two actually have quite a history between them... :) I don't want to get into too many details, because a lot of them we discover a bit later in the book, but they were together in high school, and then because of some very sad circumstances they broke up... again, sorry for being vague, but I don't want to spoil you anything... now Vera is back in her hometown, trying to check as many things off of her mom's bucket list after a health scare of her own... and since Grenadine is such a small town and Vera has a pretty big presence, so naturally very fast a lot of people now she's here... after some car troubles, she is forced to stay a bit longer than she originally planned, which sort of forces her to face a few issues from her past :) that's all of the details I can possibly share with you without spoiling you some twists and turns... now let's get into the good stuff, which is all the reasons why I adored this story :)

I'm gonna start with the characters, because when it comes to Heather's books, they are my favourite to write about in each of my reviews :) especially when it comes to this series, she has just such amazingly diverse and inclusive ones... :) but before we get into them, let's talk for a moment about the main couple, starting with Jack because I have far less things to talk about when it comes to him ;) since the book is from Vera's perspective, we don't get a lot of the backstory from Jack, and I did really miss being able to get into his head to get to know him more... don't get me wrong, he's still a really great hero and totally swoonworthy with his support for Vera, but based on all the glimpses we were privileged to see, there was just sooo much more that I wanted to know about him :) now when it comes to Vera... she was such a phenomenal heroine... totally flushed out, complex and flawed, I adored her completely... let's start with the big thing... Vera is a porn star... yep, you read that correctly... not only she's a porn star, she's also a co-founder of one of the big and successful companies in the industry... I follow Heather on social media so I had some insights into her work process on this story, and I know how much research she did to portray Vera as realistically as she could... and I have to say it really shows :) I loved to read about her and get so many insights into her as a character and the industry she works in... and it never overshadowed her actual story or was the sole focal point when it comes to her as a character :) but like I mentioned, Heather's characters are always my favourtie to write about, because she has a true talent to write them as complex and flawed in the best human way... so you can't help but fall in love with them and want to be part of their group of friends :) and speaking of them... let's get into the secondary ones for a moment :) Heather gave us appearances of the ones we already met in that first book, but we also got introduced to a bunch of new ones, including my absolute personal favourite, MVP (Most Valuable Player for those of you not into sports ;) ) Bea, Vera's grandmother... I swear, we all need a person like that in our lives :) to encourage us, meddle into our lives a little bit, and just be all around awesome and supportive :) but the rest of them were phenomenal as well... diverse and inclusive, without them feeling forced into the story just for the sake of writing for example a "gay character" or something like that... all of them feel organic, and just like a portrayal of a very diverse and complex world we live in every day :) I love reading stories like that :) and speaking of the story... if I would have to rate just the one about Vera and Jack, I would probably give it 4 stars, maybe 4,5... mostly because of personal preferences, I am not the biggest fan of secondary chance romances where the main couple were an item in the past and now they are reconnecting... I very rarely don't have issues with it, and this one was no exception... I felt like they got back together pretty quickly, without really addressing some issues that happeed in the past... like they picked where they sort of left things, but like I mentioned... I feel that my personal story and preferences may colour my experience with it... or make me more picky when it comes to the very little details... :) but because of the awesomeness of Vera's character and so many great secondary ones, I am bumping this book to full 5 stars :) and after that little scene at the end... let's just say I already started a coutdown to the next book... just saying ;) the writing style was fantastic, hilarious and definitely way hotter than in the first book... *fans herself* there are a few scenes that will definitely leave you blushing... ;) the book itself made me swoon, sigh, sometimes in awe and other times in frustration ;) it made me laugh so many times, and hit me in all the feels, which is the best thing I can say about it... Heather mixes a lot of very differet themes in this gem and she does it perfectly... I highly recommend you guys this beautiful book... it's soooo worthy of your time :) you can start with the first one, or just jump straight into this one if it interests you more ;) but you have to read one, or preferably both, of them... Heather creates such diverse and complex characters, that you are truly missing out if you haven't met them yet... so please go remedy this situation right now... especially if I do remember correctly, the first book is currently on a limited sale, so there's really no time like the present ;)

XOXO

“The moment our eyes met, everything else fell away. The space that had separated us for so long vanished. The constant humming inside of me–the unquenchable need to keep going and doing and conquering–quieted, like the last raindrop of a thunderstorm.”

Fire Trucks, Garter Belts, & My Perfect Ex is my first book by this author and follows the story of Vera and Jack. Once upon a time, Vera and Jack had a love written in the stars. But, life and circumstance kept these two young lovers apart. It will be 11 years before these two will be reunited and Vera isn’t the same woman that Jack remembers….Vera is making quite the name for herself in the adult filmstar world and never thought she’d see the day that she’d return to the town she couldn’t leave fast enough. But, when Vera decides she needs to finish her mother’s bucket list, she has no choice but to return to the town she let behind. However, she never saw herself being reunited with her first love. One moment with Jack and it turns all of her precious plans upside down. He reminds her of all the good times, even if he can’t forgive her for the past. Jack and Vera attempt to become friends, but the fire that’s always been between them burns hotter than ever. Will Vera give small town living a second go, or is history destined to repeat itself?? There’s only one way to find out….

Overall, I thought this book was a quick and enjoyable read. The plot certainly was intriguing and kept me wanting to know more. I really loved the idea of Vera being forced to return home and face up to her past. I loved that she wanted to finish her mom’s bucket list, no matter the cost. I loved how easily Vera captivated total strangers, making them easily fall under her spell. I loved how hard she had to work to move past small town living and gossip. Not letting gossip get to you is a lot harder than it seems.

I found the chemistry between Jack and Vera to be real and honest. You could tell these two would just steam up the pages together despite their rocky past. There was still intense passion between them and only time would tell if they would be willing to put their hearts on the line again.

I will be honest with you that I had a hard time with Vera’s occupation. I was intrigued to see how the author would handle it, and did appreciate that she tried to humanize Vera and make her more relateable. But, for me personally, it was kind of hard to move past. I had a hard time wrapping my head around how accepting Jack was of Vera’s situation. I mean, on one hand, I liked that he accepted Vera for who she was and didn’t try to change her. But, on the other hand, I was like dude, how can you be ok with this???

Other than that, I thought this book was a fun and sexy second chance romance. This story doesn’t miss a beat and will certainly hold your interest the entire time. Fire Trucks, Garter Belts, & My Perfect Ex has just the right amount of small town drama, steam, humor and sexiness. This is my first book by this author and I would definitely be up for checking out more of her books in the future.

*I voluntarily reviewed an e-copy of this book from the author

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up FIRE TRUCKS, GARTER BELTS, & MY PERFECT EX by Heather Novak but I am so glad I did because inside the cover of this book is a wonderful story about friendship, family (the ones that you choose as well as the ones that you're born with), and finding exactly where you're supposed to be.

Vera left her hometown in a haze of anger and rebellion all those years ago and she has made a name and a business for herself, alongside her two closest friends, in the adult entertainment industry. She is making a difference as well as a fortune and she hasn't really looked back since. But when a health scare makes her stop and think, Vera decides to tick off a few things off her mother's bucket list which she carries with her, and that means going back home for a little while. Vera hoped to dash in and out and avoid everyone from her past as much as possible but we all know that small towns never work like that. Within hours Vera has annoyed one half of the community by merely existing while the other half have welcomed her home with open arms, including her Grandmother whom Vera believed was dead (I know! You will just have to read it for yourself). And then there is Jack, the one man who truly held her heart and made her blood hum. But could there be anything between them when she is destined to leave him behind again?

Hilarious, heartwarming, and heartbreaking at times, FIRE TRUCKS, GARTER BELTS, & MY PERFECT EX by Heather Novak takes a generally taboo occupation and turns it on its head which works very well and there is never a dull moment in this story from start to finish. The characters are all well-developed and I enjoyed them all but I definitely have such a soft spot for Grandma Bea and her crew! Vera is strong, sassy, and really likeable and I admired her so much as the story developed and I got to know her more and more.
Now be warned that this book is STEAMY with capital letters and is not for the faint-hearted and is sure to get you hot under the collar when you turn the page. But it is also warm and sweet in so many ways too which makes the sizzle all the better.

With plenty of drama, misunderstandings, funny escapades, and moments of true friendship, FIRE TRUCKS, GARTER BELTS, & MY PERFECT EX by Heather Novak is sure to tick all of the boxes for romance fans who like it hot and I look forward to reading more from this talented author.

Call me a prude go ahead, but I have a hard time getting behind a love story involving a porn star. I read one with a male porn star and had the same issue. And I’ll tell you the reason why I am a germaphobe. That’s it, and it grosses me out. I don’t begrudge anyone their vices or their choices, but when I read romance I usually try to put myself in the headspace of the leading lady and I can’t when I have the yucks.

The story was exciting, and I liked the characters, I felt like Novak was trying too hard to make it funny, and it didn’t flow organically. But other than that, I did enjoy the general story. I liked Vera’s relationships with her friends and her Grandma. I think she is a genuine character.
I am rating this on 3 Boundless stars, it was good.

"He seems like the kind of guy who’d take splinters out of your ass if you fucked against a picnic table." - Vera's friend Payton's take on Jack.

Jack is amazing, Vera is amazing, the whole town of Grenadine is amazing. I loved Vera's constant reference to the fact that no one is ugly in Grenadine, sort of a tongue-in-cheek reference to the disproportionate amount of hot people in small-town romance series. I enjoyed this story more than the first, I don't know why maybe I found the premise of this one more believable. I didn't find it believable that if he needed money Luke would try to sell his childhood crush's business without exploring all other options first. This one was more sexy obviously, with some hot outdoor sex, car sex, grandma's house sex, etc. Less rooster like the first book, more cock if you will.

Note: Some people have tagged this "Trans," I'm guessing this is because there is a trans side character (Vera's best friend in Grenadine who I hope gets his own story).

Tags: Bi/Pan- I was hesitant about this tag, Vera does mf/ff/mfm porn and is really hands on with her female business partner Payton but it's never defined, it doesn't need to be obviously. The series is very sex-positive so I'll just call her sexually open-minded

I want these characters to be my friends!
Witty, sexy, original, laugh out loud, and definitely repeatable. Watching porn has never worked for me, yet this book made me want to try it again! The characters are strong, intelligent, do it their own way with no apologies women (and who doesn't love that). This book is based in reality, it shows the sad world of prejudice and the strong world of those that are accepting and loving of everyone. I could read this over and over and never get bored. Heather has an amazing way with words. Her work is brilliant, inclusive, consent positive, funny and very real. Love, love, love!

Have never read a book where the profession of one character is the driving force of the story. Appreciate the sensitive yet honest way the author handled the whole thing. The writing is superb as the more I read, the more I became a part of the Grenadine community. This story is one that showcases how prejudice and unforgiveness affect people as well as love and forgiveness. It will pull at your heart.

Vera & Jack

I can honestly say I’ve never read a book like this before. It had all the best elements of the best romance novels and those elements were well crafted into a delicious story. But what was really fabulous was how the book made me face my own biases, preconceptions, and even prejudices about women in the adult film industry.

I’m looking forward to reading more tales from Grenadine.

FIRE TRUCKS, GARTER BELTS, & MY PERFECT EX! By Heather Novak

#Review #NewRelease #OutNow

5* review from Nicole @ Emerald Book Reviews

Author Heather Novak is fast becoming my favourite go-to romantic comedy writer and that is bold statement, considering this is only book two in her fabulous Edie’s Automotive Guide series. Her writing is a charming fusion of comedy, drama and swoon-worthy romance, where she doesn’t have to unnecessarily rely on over-hyped and under-developed escapades and flashy scenes to make her characters’ voices heard. Both, male and female protagonist, as well as the assortment of side players make up this wonderful sitcom-family kind of community, where chaos, history, emotions and small-town life play a huge part.

This book is so wonderfully positive and uplifting, especially for women. Heather Novak has created, elevated and presented a delightfully complex heroine to her readers. Vera is a multi-faceted enigma with a very tender heart. What I absolutely adored about this story, was the fact that although Vera had an occupation that some would sneer at and label salacious, Heather has turned it into something affirmative for women. Vera enjoys what she does. She is making a tremendously positive impact in the industry and doing things her way. Now, I loved that Vera was confident and strong-minded but the absolute icing on the cake for me, was how our hero Jack was able to differentiate between her job and real life. The sheer level of maturity and commitment and love that emanates from him when confronted with this situation, just firmly cemented him as one of my all-time best loved heroes. And. He. Is. A. Sexy. AF. Fire. Fighter.

‘“Vera,” he whispered over and over, kissing every part of my face. “You’re giving up so much.” I stilled his face and searched his eyes. “But I’m gaining so much more.”’

The contrast in Vera is remarkable. She is both dark and light, confident and unsure, lonely, yet a notable celebrity, scared yet bold, there is no easy way to describe her character and those are the best kinds to read about. It is within her vulnerability and desire to be loved for who she is, that her character really transforms the book from any other quintessential funny romantic-comedy, into something more profound, and that is in large, thanks to Heather Novak’s creative ability to blend the two worlds of drama and comedy together, seamlessly.

This book is exceptionally well written, from the beginning to the very end and everything in between. The sparkling wit and comedic timing of one very outrageous and totally lovable granny, is enough to have you giggle snorting, on your daily commute, regardless of your audience. Not to mention the ri-dick-u-lous-ly scintillating sex scenes between Jack and Vera, which manage to be both sweet and romantic but in a hair-pulling, spank-me-harder, I-love-you kind of way.

If you’re looking for a female positive love story with a difference, then this is the book for you. It will have your emotions pendulating from low to high and back again and you will love every single second of it.

‘“You think it’s a good idea for your long-lost granddaughter, a porn star who has had a lot of premarital sex with both men and women, to casually walk into church with you? In a small town. After she rear-ended the town busybody’s car.”

Gertie clapped her hands and squealed like a fangirl. “This may be the most fun in church I have ever had.”’

✧✧✧𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡-𝐨𝐮𝐭-𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝, 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝-𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤!✧✧✧

Sometimes, visits home are relaxing; other times you crash your car, bid $3,000 on a date with your ex, and find out your dead grandma isn’t actually dead.

Warning: Small-town-itis is contagious, even to porn stars.

A runaway turned porn star returns home after ten years to her small midwest town to try and fulfill some of the "to-dos" on her dead mother's bucket list, and meets up with the boy (now hunky firefighter) she left behind. I enjoyed this second book in Novak's Edie's Automotive Guide series even more than the first. It's funny, sex-positive, and set in a small midwestern town that is definitely not all white and straight (the two main characters are depicted as white on the book's cover; Vera, the female protagonist, has had sex with both women and with men, although she does not label her sexuality in any specific way).

The story is told entirely in Vera's first-person point of view, through which Novak gives us a portrait of a woman whose impulsiveness and penchant for getting into trouble leads to myriad humorous situations (fender-benders; encounters with peeping Tom cows; getting stranded atop the town's water tower, etc. etc.). But there's far more to Vera than just pratfalls. There's her deep love for her grandmother, who runs a sex toy shop in the next town over; there's her difficult relationship with her father, who kicked her out when she was a wild eighteen; there's her outspoken commitment to sex positivity and her unabashed embrace of her own sexuality. The narrative never invites us to laugh AT Vera, despite all the difficulties she gets herself into, or to look down on her as a hapless damsel-in-distress; instead, we are meant to follow the lead of the other characters in the story, the majority of whom appreciate her for the way her personality and dramatics enliven their small town of Grenadine, Michigan. Including her ex-boyfriend, Jack, who is still majorly hung up on the girl he broke up with ten years ago, but cannot stop longing for.

Vera and her two partners are committed to creating sex-positive, feminist porn videos through their company back in LA, so falling in love again with her old flame back in Michigan is NOT something Vera plans to do. But Jack's perfection (he even has wonderfully enlightened feelings about Vera's job) is pretty hard to resist...

Another stand-out, feminist comic romance from Novak.

Loved it!

This is the second book in Edie's Automotive Guide following the lovely bunch of characters we met in book 1 "Headlights, Dipsticks and My Ex's Brother". This book highlights two characters that we barely got to meet but have one helluva story.

Vera is a porn star. Yes, a pornstar.  And not only is she a porn star, she's also a co-founder of one of the successful companies in the business. But Vera is taking a sabbatical as she is on a mission to complete her late mother's bucket list after having a brief health scare of her own. Unfortunately, that means heading home to the small town she left behind.

What ensues is a hilariously entertaining, second chance story of Vera finds herself inexplicably tossed in her ex's arms at every turn. With a wonderfully diverse group of characters, Ms. Novak has created a loving inclusive environment that occasionally peeks into the hardships that people can face, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, gender identification or sexual orientation.

I highly recommend this 5 star read and I look forward to the next book in the series.

I have to admit that I wan't sure if I would like this book. The thought of a porn-star romance left me skeptical. However, the author did an amazing job of showing Vera as a real person, and handled her career and business choices, mostly as just that. Obviously, some characters in the story had issues with Vera's choices, and that is part of the story, but her career was not handled salaciously. I found that I could really enjoy the story, and let myself get lost in it. Vera was amazing - bright, savvy, a good business woman, who somehow managed to get herself into trouble so often it was hilarious! Jack, on the other hand, was a more typical hero - smart, good-looking, hot, and steady to Vera's offbeat.

Many of the supporting characters added humor to the story, especially Vera's grandmother. An the author wove in some important topics including discussions of consent in a relationship.

I enjoyed this story, and I highly recommend this book to read.

I don't usually gush about, well, anything, but I'm very close to gushing when it comes to this book. Simply put, I loved it.

If you're looking for a great book with interesting characters with whom you want to be friends, good humor, excellent dialogue, and a plotline that pulls at your heartstrings, this book is for you.

This book is among my top 3 books of the year so far. I love how the characters are flawed but you want to root for them anyways. I love how this book shows strong, independent women who can still be vulnerable. It puts the characters in impossible situations both emotionally and physically (I had to look up what a water tower was...) and shows their growth. I really want to be best friends with some of these people!

All in all, please read this book. You won't be disappointed.

Oh Vera and Jack!! I think this is my favorite out of the Edie's Auto series! This is book 2 in the series and you don't have to read book 1 but really, you should. You learn more about the characters and it's elfing funny! Plus you learn about Vera being the highest bidder on Jack at the auction... Did I tease you enough yet??

Vera is just so funny! The situations she gets herself into are just ridiculous enough to be believable! Plus Jack and Vera have a history - before the auction... And you'll learn about that past in this story. And that's all I'm saying because I want you to read the book and pee yourself laughing and fall in love with Vera and Jack too.

Heather Novak is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors! Every book I've read of hers has been well written, hysterical and just an overall great read! Add her to your rotation - you'll thank me later.

This is the first book by this Author that I have read. I found it to be well written and one that held my interest until the end. Adult film star Vera Eastman decides after a health scare to fulfill her deceased Mother's bucket list. Her first stop is her old hometown which she has not been back to since she was eighteen she is now almost thirty. She meets her first love firefighter Jack Reeves, but he has not forgiven her for leaving all those years ago. This is a second chance story with a Mother's closely held secret since the day she left, but it will be known while Jake and Vera leave church. I enjoyed reading this story. Fantastic story and this is book 2 to Edie’s Automative Guide Series but both stories can be read as standalones. After a health scare just like her mother’s Vera goes back to her hometown wanting to complete her mother’s bucket list. Vera runs into Jack her love from high school but they split up due to some circumstances that I’m not going to tell you, Vera comes home and finds that her grandma is alive and well when she was told well emailed by her father that she had died. The love is still there between Jack and Vera but will Jack be able to accept Vera’s profession or will it be too much for him?. Fantastic story I enjoyed it immensely and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

THE FEELS!!!!!!

I super love all the feels I felt while reading this book. I went in blind reading this book knowing the author will write something I would like. I went from laughing out loud, Giggles and Giddy with excitement over the town. The awww moments. Laughing out loud again. The tears. and of course the happy ending.

I love the real-ness feeling of Vera and Jack's story. The real feeling of this "small-town-itis." I love how Vera is proud and will not apologize for her profession and love how Jack just loves her for her.

Sigh... The feels......

Makes me want to read the first book, Edie's story again. So I can read Vera's story the second time too.

I was so happy to go back to Grenadine and the world of Edie’s Auto! (Yes, everyone’s favorite rooster does make an appearance in this book too!) This book was even hotter than the last, and I read the second half at top speed, trying to figure out how Vera would be able to get her happy ever after. I loved all the surprises (wait til you read what the super hot firefighter and his friends do on “guys night”!) I’ve never read a book from the perspective of a porn star before, but Vera is very relatable. 5 stars!

This book was a great read! I like that the characters all seem like actual, real people are not cliched trope bots. They make mistakes, struggle with hard decisions, have sad moments and funny moments, have struggles that don't get neatly resolved, and actually reflect the real diversity of people. There were several times when I legitimately laughed out loud reading this book! I'm not sure if Franky or Grandma Bea is my favorite, but I know I definitely want to be best friends with both of them. I'd even brave small-town-itis for a trip to Grenadine.

This was such a great read! I loved the characters, they were so relatable! The emotion was raw and beautiful, there were a ton of laugh-out-loud moments, and a high level of heat, which all blended together perfectly. If you've already read Edie's story, you will love falling in love with the people of Grenadine all over again! If you have not read the first book in the series, while it is not necessary to pick up before you read this book, I would highly recommend you add that one to your list as well!

Intrigue, excitement, humour, small town dynamics, and sizzling romance you will find it all in this book and I enjoyed it immensely! It is well-written and emotionally deep; the plot is well-developed and consistent; an on the edge of your seat read. Second chance for Vera and Jack; the chemistry between them is intense, undeniable, and steamy; their love is true, deep, and unbreakable. This book is very compelling and very enjoyable! Definitely recommended!

She left town as soon as she graduated and never looked back until she is hit with the same illness that killed her mother. Her mother had a bucket list so she decides to complete it for them. Going back will open old wounds including her ex who has never forgiven her for leaving. She will keep needing to be rescued by her ex. Will they relight the flame? Can it even become more? See how they deal with it all

I felt like this book was very emotionally powerful and educational. I liked putting myself in the shoes of someone who's profession is something completely different than anything I've ever considered but finding I relate a lot to the things she went through. Heather does a great job of letting us really feel and be the emotions that happen in this book. It's a point of view that you won't find many other places. It's definitely worth the read

These character are so relatable & well written! I feel like I could hop in my car, drive down a country road, find Grenadine, & go to Ray's Diner to hang out with everyone! I love that Heather isn't afraid to tackle tough topics & character diversity! She made me face my own bias against sex industry workers. This book will make you laugh, cry, & love!

I really enjoyed this romance. This entertaining read offers a wonderful blend of sweet romance, tug-at-your heartstrings emotion and laugh out loud humor. I liked these chracters so much. Vera was smart, sassy and genuine. Jack was simply a great guy. He was the full swoon worthy hero package. I was so happy to see this couple's second chance at love unfold. Just excellent. This is the first time I have read this author. Will be reading a lot more in the future.
I fell in love with Vera, Jack, and Grandma Bea! The characters in this book are well defined and the storyline is what you would expect in real life. The book has all you could possibly want. It has humour, friendship and of course romance. Sit awhile and read and you will be laughing. Can’t wait for the next one.
