The Bad Twin

Rate this book
Being the good twin isn't all it's cracked up to be. Abby Levesque knows that better than anyone. While her sister drifts through life carefree, Abby's left to clean up her messes. The latest mess? Hudson Quinn— the hot, angry billionaire on her doorstep demanding she accompany him to Paris. He's obviously mistaken her for her twin, Gabby, who happens to be his assistant. Too bad Gabby is nowhere to be found. If Abby wants to fix her sister's latest blunder, she'll have to pretend to be someone else for two weeks—preferably someone who isn't wildly attracted to her mercurial boss…

As far as Hudson's concerned, his sexy-but-flaky new personal assistant is just another in a long line of terrible decisions and failures in his life. But he's working on the deal of a lifetime—a deal that could change everything for him—and he needs her help to close it. The last thing he ever expected was to connect with her on a soul-deep level.

Falling in love wasn't part of the job, and when Hudson finds out who she really is, Abby's terrified he'll never forgive her. With a billion dollar deal—and both their hearts—on the line, can Abby convince Hudson she's the right twin for him?

Paris! Ah... my dream destination. This book in my opinion is a love letter to Paris. Paris seen through an artist eyes and brings it to life. I can feel Paris all over my sense while reading this book.

The story is quite simple. A mistaken identity that leads to romance. Simple story plot, likeable characters, and Paris. I end up like this book more than i expect. I finish reading it in 1 sitting. Maybe the Paris lures me into its seduction. What a wonderful read.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It started out kind of slow, but eventually picked up.
The Bad Twin brings us Hudson and Abigail story. They meet after Gabrielle, Abby's twin sister disappears and she is forced to take Abby's place.
The twists and turns, the secret that Abby holds from Hudson, gahhh, I couldn't get enough. It was intense and I loved it!
Looking forward to reading more from this author!

The Bad Twin
By: Avery Scott

*REVIEW* 🌟🌟🌟🌟
The Bad Twin is a fun and fast treat. Abby and Gabby are twins in looks but opposites in personality. Gabby is the irresponsible one who just drifts like whatever through life. Abby is the responsible twin who worries about bills and grown-up things. Gabby actually gets a job, but her carelessness causes a mistaken identity. Gabby misses a meeting, and her boss shows up at her house. He mistakes Abby for Gabby, but rather than correcting him, Abby just goes with it. Suddenly, she's on a plane to Paris with her sister's hot boss. Wouldn't you do the same thing? It's Paris for goodness sake! Abby is not bad. She deserves to live a little. Though somewhat predictable, the two develop feelings, but the truth ruins everything, etc., it's still an enjoyable delightful read. I like place switching stories. The twins see life through each other's perspectives, and hopefully, this will cause positive changes. What about Abby and the boss hottie? Will these two work out this huge misunderstanding? Maybe Gabby will take responsibility for herself now. I really enjoyed this story and these characters. It's well written and snappy with great dialogue and lovely descriptions. Although new to me, I will seek out more from to read from Avery Scott! I like her style!

There was so much stuff that I hated about this book.
It was pretty obvious that it would be unoriginal, just by reading the blurb, but I had the silly hope that there would be something interesting enough about it.
But most importantly, I hated the main characters.
Abby is plain, and I can't help feeling that the only reason she managed to attract Hudson's attention was because of her pretty face. She isn't smart. She also lets everyone to step on her, only so that she can be a victim.
Hudson is one of the biggest assholes I have ever encounter in a book.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

First thing that caught my attention in this book was the tittle. Honestly, I was thinking in male twins instead of female. But don't make me wrong, I enjoyed the story anyway.

Gabrielle is Abby's twin, a girl who lives with no strings, carefree, and loves the adventure. Quite the opposite of Abby, who is more responsible, acting like a real adult and taking care of both of them.

Abby's life seems not to smile at her. While struggling to get a job after being fired. The search for a new job seems endless, as bills grow along with other obligations. But life offered her a chance when Gabrielle's irresponsibility forces her to do something she might regret... or maybe not.

Hudson is Gabrielle's boss and mets Abby unexpectedly. He is a businessman, a millionaire, handsome one, but with the shadow of a guilt that has kept him immersed in work so as not to think about it. His attraction to girls like Gabrielle seems not to diminish despite his past experience, therefore it is the same attraction he feels for Abby.

This novel is a sweetest one that take place in Paris, one of the mos romantic cities. With a descriptions of the popular places in there and romantic scenes of Abby and Hudson. A perfect place for art lovers like Abby. I loved that she could made one of her dreams come true and finally found her HEA.

This was an average read.
It was enjoyable at first, but I didn't feel the connection between the two main characters at all. In fact, they were so bland and average that I don't even remember their names even though I just finished the book yesterday.
It was so painfully obvious he didn't bring the right sister on his trip, I don't know how he stayed oblivious all this time!

I feel like this was a strong case of insta-love, more like insta-lust, which I hate.

This was just what I needed, a quick read with some spice, drama and a HEA at the end. It actually reminded me of the Harlequin serial/monthly romances I used to read when I was younger.

Beautiful, destitute h with a heart of gold? Check!
Handsome, man-about-town jerk millionaire H who used women for his own pleasure until he meets the h? Check!
Exotic location, in this instance, Paris? Check!
Rich H hires h, who at first flubs everything, but then not only makes things better, but also helps the H to realize that yes, he CAN love and in fact, he loves HER? Check!
Fall in love and in bed, not necessarily in that order? Check!
Unsafe sex? Check!
BIG secret that causes hurt and separation of the lovers, but wouldn't have been an issue if honesty was introduced earlier in the story? Check!
H and h can't forget one another, no matter what, so they have the HEA? Check!

If I hadn't known this was written now, I would have sworn this was an old Harlequin monthly release. Not a neg, sometimes you just want your predictable two hour read to an HEA and this book delivers that.

To be honest, I thought with all of the unprotected "best ever" monkey-jungle love that there was going to be a second "big secret" and it was going to be she was preggers with his baby, but that did not occur.

All in all, a satisfying read and what I expected. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4, because the secondary h had actual character growth and I am hoping that there is a second book that follows her path to her own HEA.

Recommended for those who like contemporary romance with spice and drama. It is well written for what it is, definitely worth a read.

My thanks to NetGalley and Starlight Publishing, LLC for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

This was a cute book with just the right amount of steam. Abby and Gabby were identical twins but opposites in every other way. Gabby was flakey and undependable while Abby had it together. When Gabby's boss mistakes her for her sister she ends up on a business trip to Paris in an effort to save her sister's job. The descriptions of Paris were so vivid that it made me feel like I was there. Chemistry takes over and she finds herself falling for a guy who doesn't even know her real name, Drama and some twists make for a cute story. I read an advance reader copy via Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review.

I was granted an ARC of this book by NetGalley. In exchange for a fair and Honest review. The review below is entirely my own opinion.

Man oh man, where to start.
Honestly, this book was so close to going into my DNF pile, but I soldiered on, due to the fact that I wanted to give it a fair review.

the overall plot is nothing revolutionary, broke but good hearted girl meets slutty workaholic billionaire, attraction, drama, love!
The whole twin aspect was drew me in. a cute twist on the whole trope and I wanted to read some light fluff but this book.... left me so frustrated!
Lets start with the writing. You've heard of the adage show not tell. Well the book does a whole lot of telling and not a lot of showing. For example,
When Hudson shares with abby Collins issue is added to build the characters but honestly it just seems like the author gave the background plot to add depth but the delivery of it was so spectacularly bad it felt unnecessary and flat. This problem continues throughout the book, Everything is just told to us and it irked me.
At some points the writing is so magical, especially when it came to talking about Art, it drew me in. I felt the magic that gabby was experiencing when she talks about it and then one sentence later it is clunky and I need to reread something 3 times to understand what the author is trying to convey.
The switching view points didn't help. Sometimes half way through a conversation, the author would switch and I'd have to backtrack just to make sense of who's mind we're in. Did not help with the flow of the book

I freaking hated Gabrielle. She was obnoxious whenever she appeared and she started off a shitty character, had zero development and ended a shitty character. Sometimes people who are trash deserve their comeuppance

I thought Abby was okay. However she never goes after anything. She never stands up to her sister or really chases her dreams nonetheless, she grew stronger in her confidence as the storyline progressed . I liked how she was introduced and her struggle but it wasn't enough.

Its a quick read so I'll give it that and it did make me want to visit Paris - the the scenic descriptions and allure of the city really shone through.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The connection with Abby, the heroine, has been almost immediate even though I had the sensation she was going to live a sort of bittersweet fairytale.
I found the plot more real than what I expected and this is because there are many people facing a bad financial situation and when you feel you have no more options in front of you, then making a bad (or a brave!) decisions might not be so unthinkable.
Abby and Gabrielle are identical twins but their behaviors couldn't be more different. Abby is kind, pure and a very responsible girl while Gabby is more frivolous, she loves parties and seems not to be able to take anything serious, her new job included.
Hudson is a millionaire, a man that apparently has everything but actually, due to a tragical event in his past, he's trapped in a job he really doesn't love but he's determined to show his father he can succeed in his work, no matter what. To finalize an important acquisition with a French firm, he hires the beautiful Gabrielle as his interpreter and assistant in order to make the business trip to Paris as smooth and successful as possible. But what happens if the day of the Business Trip the one that opens the door to Hudson is not Gabby but Abby? Here the real story begins! In Paris, what starts as a professional relationship between Abby and Hudson quickly changes in something more real, deep and important for both of them. But when some little white lies are finally revealed and they have to come back to their real life, will they be able to overcome their difficulties and have their HEA? I'm sure if you give Abby and Hudson a chance, they'll conquer your heart in this sweet, slow-burn, emotional Romance.
The only thing that was a little bit difficult for me to accept was Gabrielle, her behavior and her initial role in Hudson's life. I didn't like her for 70 % of the book but thanks God this girl came to her sense and I loved the way she changed at the end, giving me also the feeling this character was well built and was more real than what I initially thought.

I an ARC of this book.

As cute as this book was, I wasn’t loving it. Often, I found myself skimming, out of pure boredom. The book just didn’t hold me in as it should have, considering the twin trope it was playing with. The writing was clean and well-polished, but not interesting.

At the core of my dislike for this book, was the characters. Abby should have really told him the truth the second they were getting closer. She was already in Paris, so realistically what would happen? Especially since at this point, she already fixed her original blunders. She should have known that either way, he would be mad at her, but being mad before they get closer would give her a cleaner situation.

Hudson wasn’t the brightest. The signs were there: the confusion over going to Paris, saying she’s never been when she did before leaving, the name in the passport, etc. He had so many signs that he could have questioned, but instead chose to take her half-baked explanations. People don’t typically switch personalities overnight and go from using your credit card to not even knowing she has one.

I’ll leave this review short. All in all, I didn’t wholly enjoy it and found myself wishing it can hurry up.

This is my first book by this author. I was captivated from page one.

Abby made a wonderful main character. She was so tortured and vulnerable. She was the responsible twin who wanted to make sure their lives were safe and secure. So, when Hudson Quinn shows up on her doorstep calling her Gabrielle and threatening to fire her sister if she didn't get on the plane to Paris, how could she say no?

I can't imagine being in such a situation but I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would have made the same decision as she. She didn't have a job. Her sister did. Her sister was 10 hours away in a car speeding toward Mexico. If Abby wanted to save her house from being sold out from under her, this was the only decision she could make. Gabby reminds me of a lot of people these days. She wasn't invested in doing the job. She just wanted to have fun. Abby wasn't wired that way. Funny how some twins can be so different yet look exactly the same.

I was crying at the end when Abby had fallen for Hudson and the ruse was over. The author really knows how to pull at our heartstrings. Avery Scott is definitely an author to watch and I will be picking up a few of her older titles when I need those feel good romances that threaten to break your heart.

This was just what the doctor ordered. Romance, angst and sincere gratification. Such a sweet combination. Definitely check this one out!

I received this as an ARC from NetGally from the publisher for an honest review. I thank the publisher, author and NetGalley for allowing me to read this title.

The Bad Twin by Avery Scott is the story of Abby Levesque and Hudson Quinn.
Abby has a twin sister Gabby, they look identical but their personalities are totally different. Gabby is the carefree, flaky women who seems to get herself into messes and is flighty. Abby is the sensible one that is the opposite but she also the one that cleans up Gabby situation / message. Abby is now dealing with her own issues of finding a job and get the bills paid when Gabby's new boss mistakes Abby for Gabby. Abby goes into clean up mode and ends up in a business trip to Paris. Hudson is trying to close a very important deal and he needs his assistant, but what he doesn't need is the attraction and feelings they he is now feeling for her.
Cute and easy read.

Abagil & Gabrielle are indentical twins of French origin. One is the good girl, the other has wanderlust & not very stable in life. Enter Hudson, who Gabby has taken advantage of. When he arrives at their home Abby is mistaken for her sister & ends up in Paris on a business trip. Of course the other sister is up to no good. Abby saves the day but unfortunately when Hudson learns of the deception it all falls apart.
While that's it in a nutshell, there's more to how it all started & where & how it ended. Also how their meeting changed both their futures.
Loved the banter & the chemistry between the two characters plus it wasnt overly angsty. However I'm sure I've read this before. A 2nd edition? Anyhow enjoy!

I just love a romance with a little bit of deception but with good intentions written in.

The Bad Twin by Avery Scott has just that.

What Abigail (Abby) is confronted by her twin sister’s boss in a case of mistaken identity she has one of two choices: fess up or save her sister’s job by playing along. <---See good intentions.

Hudson is the internally tortured billionaire suffering self-induced penance for his family loss. Suffering between heartbreak and an uninterested passion for his work, he finds himself entranced with his personal assistant.

Add in one stunningly dreamy business strip to Paris, touristy attractions, confections, and gardens and you get a heroine falling fast for a guy who doesn’t even know her real name.

Abby’s quirky personality and “oops” moments in her deception were adorable, but I love that she grew stronger in her confidence as the storyline progressed and eventually added in tidbits of passion and snark.

As I would expect in a romance, the story carries just enough steamy moments without taking the book too far down the erotica path but rather focused on the character’s journeys and, of course, an HEA.

Avery Scott truly captured the otherworldly beauty of Paris in her words and the stunning pull of the romanticism of the city. The emotional journey from Hudson was stunning to witness and I just loved the ending.

I highly recommend this one as a feel-good romance with a little slow burn and angst.

Abby and Gabrielle are identical twins that were born 16 minutes apart. They may look the same on the outside, but on the inside they are completely different with both their personalities & general outlook on life. Abby has always been the good girl, sensible & responsible - keeping up with an aging house & paying the bills. Gabrielle lives as if though life is one big party. Even better if that party is on someone else’s dime. She goes about her life without a care in the world or thought about anyone else, leaving Abby to pick up the pieces in her wake.

When Gabrielle‘s billionaire boss, Hudson Quinn, mistakes Abby for her irresponsible twin, who’s taken off in the night to parts unknown, she is forced to play the role of Gabrielle as his interpreter & personal assistant in the lovely city of Paris. She didn’t really want to & she hated to lie, but what’s a broke girl, down on her luck with no new job lined up, supposed to do? Without the money, they would surely lose their beloved grandmere’s house.

Paris is everything Abby ever dreamed. There are moments of tension & stress over Hudson’s business deals and Abby’s complete lack of knowledge of the trip details as his supposed assistant. The more time Abby spends with Hudson in Paris, the more she begins to fall for him. She wants to tell him the truth but she is hesitant to learn how things may really be once the truth is out.

When you’ve been a good girl all your life & fate has never treated you kindly, would you slip on the mask of the bad girl and enjoy the pleasures of sexy boss Hudson in Paris?

And when the truth comes out, will Hudson still want her or will the lies tear apart any chance they might have had, leaving Paris as only a fond memory?

***
Avery Scott paints a beautiful picture of Paris in her debut novel, The Bad Twin. At times, I felt as if I was in Paris, experiencing the hustle & bustle of the city of love as Abby & Hudson explored the city in all it’s beauty. Ms. Scott certainly has a talent when it comes to world building and thorough knowledge of France. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Lies, even ones with good intentions, will always -always- come back to bite you. Abby learns this in a most heartbreaking fashion as she makes the snap decision to take her flighty, irresponsible twin’s place when Gabby’s employer shows up expecting her to drop everything and leave, right now, on a business trip to Paris where he must close a billion-dollar deal. Abby has always been the one to pick up the pieces of her sister’s life and decisions so to pretend to be Gabby shouldn’t be a huge deal, after all, she can speak French like a natural as well. The troubles come when emotions get involved, and betrayal is felt by the one person who could have Abby’s heart forever — except he thinks he’s falling for Gabby.

Everything you really need to know about THE BAD TWIN is in the Cover Description. I found Abby and Hudson’s story to be engaging, fast-moving, with intense emotions and two people that I cared about needing them to find some way out of this web of lies that are keeping them apart. I understood each of their sides. Betrayal, especially when you let down your guard to allow someone to touch those hidden places in your heart is beyond painful. So I got why Hudson reacted as he did.

Watching Abby and Hudson fall in love and work their way through their troubles to a happy ending was an engaging, emotional journey. I’d not hesitate to recommend THE BAD TWIN to anyone who enjoys a solid romance, switching identities and overcoming well-intentioned lies.

The Bad Twin
By: Avery Scott
5 out of 5 stars

The story The Bad Twin by Avery Scott is a new adult romance book. It is a story that pulls you in from the beginning and doesn’t let you go until the last page. I loved reading about the characters of Abby Levesque and Hudson Quinn. Abby is a young woman who has an identical twin. She considers herself the responsible one while her sister seems to just cruise through life. Abby is smart, beautiful, and independent. Hudson is a man that works for the family business. He is haunted by the past. His father is at times harsh and Hudson feels his displeasure at his decisions. He is working on the deal of a lifetime. What will happen when he mistakes Abby for her sister? Abby finds herself in Paris with Hudson. She also finds herself attracted to him. They seem to have a connection. Will Hudson find out the truth about who she is? What does the future hold for Hudson and Abby? Read this book to find out. This story has romantic scenes that make the temperature in the room rise. There is passion and desire between Abby and Hudson. I found myself caring about them both and wanting them to find happiness. Don’t miss out on a book that is sure to grab your attention and keep you turning pages to find out what happens next. I highly recommend reading it.

The Bad Twin: A Mistaken Identity Billionaire Romance by Avery Scott is romance story that is quick and enjoyable read. How can someone be identical in every aspect an yet polar opposites in personality. Mistaken identity leads to a little drama but also a little fun, if only it could last. Will the truth make everything worse and one twin sit up and take notice?

Gabby has always coasted along in life, never putting down roots to anything, just does whatever she wants whenever she wants. Responsibility – what is that?

Abby is the worrier, she is reliable and the grown up and when her sister messes up she steps in to help her out. Only this time the lie could come back to bite her but the one good thing could be that Gabby can see what it is like to walk in her sisters shoes for a while.

As always a delight Avery.

Loving this twin dynamic! Abby and Gabby are twins who are polar opposites. While Gabby is carefree and bohemian in nature, Abby is the responsible and adult acting of the pair. When a string of bad luck continues for her, Abby finds herself without a job and the bills piling up – bills that were already piled up to begin with. And when she thinks things are going to be somewhat ok with Gabby getting a job, she isn’t surprised when her boss arrives at their doorstep and she has flaked yet again. But when he thinks Abby is Gabby, she is so desperate that she decides to give it a shot to get the job done and the money to save their house and bills. Hudson is already unhappy with Gabby’s work in the office, and when she forgets about their big meeting in Paris, he’s livid. Noting that she’s acting different than typical, he writes it off as a quirk and gets them on a plane. But when Abby, in an attempt to salvage the job without any of Gabby’s help, inadvertently screws up the entire meeting, we wonder if Abby will be able to recover the job. In the process, Abby and Hudson end up developing feelings and a real love for each other, but the risk of him finding out who Abby really is might blow everything. The premise of this storyline is different than most, and it’s what attracted me to this story and per usual, Avery did not disappoint! I would love to see if we get a book from Gabby in the future and see if she eventually outgrows her carefree ways.

So happy I've found a new author to love!

Avery Scott did an amazing job bringing this story to life! The Bad Twin, unlike anything I've read before, sucked me in from the very first chapter. The story centers around Abigail, the good, responsible sister who worries about everything, and her care-free twin Gabrielle. Gabrielle is quite the opposite and has a totally different outlook on life. Through careful planning, Scott puts Abigail in a situation where she must take on the role of her sister, and that's where the story really takes off. The plot becomes so thick, I wonder if Abigail is actually able to pull it off. Then there's her attraction to Hudson.

The twists and turns, the secret that Abby holds from Hudson, gahhh, I couldn't get enough. It was intense and I loved it! Though I could see where most readers would probably like Gabby over her sister, I was more connected with Abby. Her seriousness, the way she handles things...so much like myself.

If you're looking for something that is different from anything out there, The Bad Twin is the story for you. Great writing, a solid plot, and drama at its finest! Five stars all the way.

Abigail and Gabrielle are twin sisters who live in their grandmother’s house. Abby is the responsible one and Gabby is the wild and fun one with no idea what the real world is like. Abigail gets let go at her job and is trying to figure out ways to pay the mortgage and lose a part of her and her sister’s memories. When Gabby gets a job on a whim by helping Hudson speak French over the phone to understand a deal going on. Hudson hires Gabby to help close the last of the deal to help finish it. When the wild side of Gabby and leaves when Hudson is there to pick her up Abby doesn’t have a choice but to go in her place and try to pass as her sister. The thing is that Abby isn’t like gabby. Abby falls for Hudson but Hudson is falling for who he thinks is Gabby and not Abby. Will the truth come out? Will Hudson still fall but understand why she didn’t come out?

Another winner from Scott. This was a quick read for me, one that I fell into quickly and enjoyed every page. Scott has a great way of voicing the main characters, making them relatable, and providing a natural ebb and flow to the relationship that the reader ends up rooting for. I really enjoyed this book. Perfect for a weekend afternoon. I cannot wait to sit down and read it again.

Gabrielle takes a job with Hudson Quinn, and right when they’re due to fly to Paris, she’s already on her way to Mexico... (flighty see) Thankfully, Abby is at home when Hudson demands she get in the car, so they can leave. Long story short, Abby flies to Paris and doesn’t get off to a good start.

Lovely little read, and I loved the characters, and the way the book flowed with the story. Would definitely recommend :)

I loved this book! This is a romance story that pulled me in right from the start. The author writes with emotion and well developed ideas. The characters pop off the pages and made the story feel realistic. I read this book in one sitting, a page turner to the end. Two sisters, Gabby and Abby. Abby is the responsible one and Gabby is more wild. What will happen when the sisters are mixed up? Can there be a happy ending for one of them? This is my favorite yet so far and a must read.
