Kate Summers career on the police force might be over. Her role as Mistress of Pain might be in jeopardy. But as a Private Investigator, Kate is on the case, catching killers and following the evidence no matter where it leads. She’ll do whatever it takes to solve a murder, even surrender her place as the Mistress of Pain and assume the role of a submissive. She’s crazy to consider the idea, and while she swore she’d never endure the submissive role again, Jake Davenport is the one Dominant fearless enough to take on the Mistress of Pain. She’s only pretending, but Jake isn’t. He knows she’s the submissive he’s been looking for and he’s determined to show her why he’s the Dom she needs. Meanwhile, her investigation takes them on a treacherous path. With a killer on the loose, bodies are piling up, and the investigation turns on its head when the trail of evidence leads to Jake.

3.75. Another one that feels like a cliffy at the end. I like the story and suspense but these endings give it a real short serial feel instead of full length novel feel and cheapens it a bit unfortunately. I’m also a little concerned that this couple only has one book left and has a long way to go, plus time still needs to be spent solving the crime mystery.

Love Kate and Jake.

I loved the growing relationship between Jake and Kate..
They are in deep acting as Dom and Sub to catch a killer. Kate is struggling a bit to act like the perfect sub, the Mistress of pain is used to giving the punishment not receiving it.

Jake on the other hand is loving having Kate at his mercy, it may be a job to her but to Jake it's so much more than that. He's in deep with Kate and he has no intention of letting her go after the job is done.

Gah....These two have gotten under my skin. They are smoking hot together whether acting as Dom & Sub or not there's no denying their attraction.

The pressure is on because the killer is still at large . More victims and no closer to solving the case, They need to step up their game.
This story still has me gripped, it's thrilling and intense. Full.of secrets that I can't wait to be revealed.

A lot more darker themes explored.
This book had more dubious consent, and had a master go against protocol. There is a specific whipping scene that was alarming. There is a plot twist coming (in the next book) and it was easy to figure out, but I didn’t like how it was glossed over and they both went about their day until the end of the book, not realizing that something was alarmingly off. The main character also does exactly what she was fearing in book 1 (submitting and not questioning the master) so not having a correction or any indication of closure or reinstating the rules on that was what made me dislike this book. Maybe it’s brought up in the next book. It will be brought up eventually but the amount of time taken for it makes the series even darker.

It was very frustrating (in a good way) that the reader is able to tell who the bad guy is, but the main characters just couldn't piece it together. I felt like yelling at them. It was very well written and did come together in the last book.

Deliciously intriguing

I am curious about how this series ends, I am struggling with how slow it's going and the constant repetitiveness. I think I have figured out how this will end. I guess I will have to read y he next book yo see if I'm right or not.

Good but dark

This book isn't for the faint hearted, good read, the chemistry between Kate and Jake is hot, and well written, only thing is I wish I had read these books before I read the Captive Heart books.

After having to leave the police Kate takes up private investigating. She is still friends with Pete who was her farmer partner. His new partner doesn’t like Kate. When bodies start accumulating Pete asks for her help. Even though she is the mistress of pain she realises that she needs to switch to a sub so Jake steps in as her dom. Kate doesn’t realise that Jake has a twin and goes off with Josh thinking it’s Jake. This is a great story that you will not be able to put down Can’t wait for the next book.
