Megalomaniac
In her first full-length collection of poetry, Shamshad Khan struts with attitude from the poetic to the polemic; stepping lightly from the satirical to the spiritual. Shamshad's writing is engaging lively and eminently readable, with an awareness of rhythm and the spoken word she manages to present complex subjects using a language that is both subtle and simple.

At times the longer poems in this collection seem like stream of consciousness, one thing leading to another for the speaker to ruminate on, which requires more focus to follow. What shines in the collection is Khan’s control of rhythm, both created through the line lengths and by the repetition of sound. I imagine that they would be great to listen to instead of read, I’ll have to see if I can find any recordings.
