“He’s the omega I didn’t even know I was looking for.”
Kohen Russell is a farm boy, through and through. He’s been riding horses and tending the land on the family farm since he was a teenager - and with their corn maze being the best in the state, it’s a lot of land to tend. It’s a simple life, but fulfilling - and his dad never hesitates to remind him that it would be even more fulfilling with an omega by his side.
"I’m totally into him - but is that reason enough to stay?"
Archer Mills has gotten bored. He loves his work as a veterinarian, but Sunnydale is known for treating dogs and cats, not the large livestock he’d prefer to work with. He’s all set to transfer back to his hometown when he’s called out to work on Kohen’s horse, Bex. Bex will be fine… but meeting Kohen proves to be the change in trajectory that Archer has been looking for.
Welcome to Sunnydale Vets, where love is the best medicine, and all it takes to fix your problems is the willingness to roll up your sleeves and get to work. This heartwarming book features mpreg, a meddling old coot, a famous farm, and the sweet tenderness of finding the one who lights you up inside. This book and every other book in the Sunnydale Vets Series can be read in any order.
Kohen Russell is 100% farm boy. He’s worked on his family farm since he was a teenager. His family has the best corn maze in the state and Kohen takes great pride in that and working the farm. He knows it’s a simple life but it’s fulfilling to him. His father puts a lot of pressure on him to settle down but with the bullying he endured causing him to drop out of school, he’s afraid to get close to anyone.
Archer Mills loves working as a veterinarian but he’s become bored. He’s used to working with large livestock not the dogs and cats more prevalent in Devon. He’s thinking of transferring to Texas so he can be closer to his family. A call out to the Russell farm may change everything when he meets Kohen.
Sparks fly between Kohen and Archer. Archer doesn’t act like other omegas Kohen has met and he loves how sassy Archer is.
I think this is my favorite couple in the series. Their light hearted relationship is so endearing and I just wanted to keep reading about them.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Fave of the series. Loved how they actually dated and got to know each other before jumping into anything physical. Also their banter and flirting was adorable. I'm a sucker for pushy omegas and sweet alphas
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the fifth book in the Sunnydale Vets series. In this book, Archer is a large animal vet who grew up in Texas, and is unsure if he should stay in Devon working for Sunny and Dale because he misses his family and longs to settle down and have a family of his own. One night while working on call, Archer got a call about an injured horse. archer raced out to the farm to see if he could help the horse and he met Kohen. Kohen was an alpha who lived on the farm with his father Duke and when his horse got caught in some wire, he knew the horse needed a vet. When Archer arrived, Kohen was with the horse and together they managed to stitch the horse up. There was an instant attraction with them and Duke hinted they should go out together. Kohen asked Archer to come back to the ranch to go riding and they set up a date. Archer was smitten with the cowboy and it seemed like it was mutual. Kohen wanted a family, but he didn't want to rush Archer. They started seeing each other and things were going well until Archer received work his transfer went through. Now Archer had to decide if he is going to stay to be with Kohen or go back to Texas. I really loved this story. I loved Kohen and thought he was a great guy, but he didn't have a lot of self esteem because he was bullied because of a learning disability. I love that Archer saw past that and loved him for himself. Archer thought so much of Kohen and wanted to show him he was worth everything to him. I thought Kohen was sweet and he really cared for Archer and respected him. Another great one.
I just love this series. This is book 5 of the Sunnydale Vets series, but can be read as a stand alone. Archer is an Omega vet and he is starting to miss his family and home in Austin, Texas. He has finally decided it is time to move back home. As a vet, he specializes in large animals, but the clinic he works for deals only with small animals. He yearns to fall in love with a cowboy and take care of large animals. Decision made, he talks to Sunny about how he is thinking of moving back home. Things change when he volunteers to work the late shift and gets a call about a hurt horse.
Kohen is an Alpha cowboy that runs a farm with his Pa. When his horse gets hurt while they are on a ride, he is determined to save her. Their normal vet is out of town and in desperation, he calls the local town vet where Archer happens to be on call. Sparks fly between these two. The attraction is instant. Now that Archer has found Kohen, is home really in Austin, or is it in the arms of Kohen?
Written in 1st person as a multi pov with a HEA. Interesting story line. Good description to detail, awesome characters, and engaging dialogue. All in all, a really good read.

Archer is an omega veterinarian from Texas with a thing for hot cowboys but he hasn't found the right one yet and is becoming bored with life in Devon. He specialized in large animals but the Sunnydale clinic doesn't get those calls, until one night Kohen's horse has been hurt and he needs help immediately, so in desperation contacts Sunnydale. Archer is thrilled for a chance to work on a horse but when he sees Kohen he sees what he has been looking for. Kohen has shut himself off from town life after years of verbal bullying, mostly because of a stutter. Now, he is alone with his father on the ranch and doesn't know how to change his life. The chemistry from these two takes off and steers the story until Archer is faced with a decision. Bates does a great job of writing characters that push stereotypes and display personal strengths and weaknesses. He also addresses issues that face real people in a sympathetic and thoughtful way. I try never to miss a book by this author. I got this book as an ARC from Booksprout.
More from the SunnyDale vet clinic. Possible spoilers. Alpha Kohen is a corn maze farmer who lives and works with his Alpha father, Duke. Kohen is trying to bring the farming practices up to date but Duke is resisting all his efforts in that direction, but is out doing himself in trying to get his son his own omega. Archer is a vet at the SunnyDale vet clinic and enjoys working there but feels he would be better transferring back home to Texas and work with the large animals he always wanted to treat. When Kohen is out riding, his horse runs right into some discarded wire which cuts into the leg. Unable to get his own vet he phones SunnyDale and Archer comes out and treats the horse. Archer is smitten and Duke is more than happy to help things along but then Archers transfer is approved and Kohen is devastated.

Archer Mills went to school so that he could take care of large animals in his home town. Archer is working at Sunnydale Animal Hospital and wants to be transferred back to his home town because he misses working on larger animals. One night he is pulling the night shift and gets an emergency call to go to the Russell farm. Kohen was riding his horse and she got tangles up in some wire and need to be looked at. Archer goes to the farm and Fixes up the horse and cannot stop looking at Kohen. Archer agrees to go riding with Kohen and also takes a look at Rex to make sure she is healing. Kohen and Archer have the hots for each other but neither is ready to make that final step. Archers transfer is approved and he gets ready to leave. Can Kohen step up and tell Archer what he really wants. Will Archer give Kohen the chance to change his mind?

Archer misses his family and is looking for love. When he’s given up on finding his mate and wants a transfer back home, he get a call to take care of a injured horse. Archer jumps in the car and makes his way out to the farm. There he meets an grumpy old man, a droolworth alpha asleep next to his injured horse. Archer’s imidiatly blown away by this handsome cowboy and realise that maybe there is something for him in this town after all. Kohen is just the most adorable alpha, he more or less falls in love with Archer instantly. Kohen has some insecurity problems after beeing bullied in school, that maks interacting with others a bit difficult. Archer looks past all that and sees the real man. This is just an adorably, sweet and cosy story. Only dark cloud hanging over their happy ending is Archers transfer request. what to do, what to do....
Archer, from Texas, specializes in large animal veterinary care but the clinic he works in is mostly pets. When he is called for a horse injury emergency, he meets Kohen, a local farmer. He is not meeting any compatible alphas and is lonely, ready to go home. Kohen is searching for an omega to love and make a family. With their personalities and behaviors, you would think their roles are reversed. But they are very attracted to each other and think this might be the one. It was an entertaining read. It was confusing when Kohen is portrayed as a high school dropout at 16 that was bullied and turned out to be ADHD. He flips back and forth speaking and behaving intelligently, then he is speaking like an ignorant hick. Otherwise it was an okay read with rural Southern nomenclature. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
Finding someone to see the real you is amazing but challenging journey. Both men want to find that someone special and have a family. Their connection and attraction is wonderful and they so fit together. I love that Archer really sees the amazing person that Kohen is, and looks past his disability to the incredible man he is. I love that Kohen really shows Archer respect and is so thoughtful of him.
There is a little angst in the story, but it is quickly worked through. I really like that Archer and Kohen act like adults and resolve their issues quickly. Kohen's dad is so good with Archer, i really enjoyed their interactions.
This is the fifth book in the Sunnydale Vets series and it can be read as a stand-alone.
I was gifted this book from the author and i freely give my review.
I really enjoyed reading this heartwarming MM romance. It has an interesting, well-paced plot. The characters have unique personalities & there is some self-esteem issues but they continue to develop throughout the story-line to become strong individuals. There is: a male omega veterinarian (Archer Mills) who is called out to attend an injured grumpy mare (Bex) own by an alpha male (Kohen Russell), his stubborn father (Duke Russell), A caring boss (Sunny), not very subtle hints, some drama, loneliness, memories, attractions, amusement, verbal banter, compliments, mischievousness, verbal confrontations, insults, protectiveness, choices, decisions, admittance, heartache, declaration, love, happiness, some steam & a satisfying epilogue.
Archer specialized in large animal veterinary medicine in vet school. He grew up in Texas around animals like that. He did his internship before Sunny and Dale bought the hospital and staid on, even though they are a domestic animal specialty center.
Is it time to go back to Texas? Sunny looks for transfer opportunities near his family back in Texas for Archer. Then along comes an emergency with a mustang who belongs to Kohen. Hmmmm..... one hot cowboy!
Is the rapidly growing relationship between them enough to stay?
It might be a bit of a bumpy ride, but they can make it if they ride together.
Steamy m/ m romance and hot KU read.

This was a cute and fun story. I felt like it was a bit slow at times but I did enjoy how it wasn,'t super rushed and you could see the connection and chemistry between both charcaters. It's a love story between two people who in a way come from two different worlds. Archer is a vet from TX who was the only one qualified at the clinic to work on horses and Cohens horse which was also is bestfriend fell very Ill and needed treatment. They felt a connection and attraction right away and decided to explore it further by strating out with a date and things escalated from there. Overall it was a cute story and I enjoyed both charcters.

You can feel the love and passion. Going slow creates a tsunami buildup. Archer, Vet, Omega longs for a partner with whom he can share a family. Kohen, rancher, Alpha longs for a partner with whom he can share a family. Pa is Kohen's widower Alpha dad who is an absolute hoot!Archer made a house call to tend Kohen's horse. They had a struck by lightening moment and started a slow molassas courtship. Kohen is dragging major luggage. Archer is a confident Omega who knows what he wants. Their journey is sweet, sexy and fulfilling. Major decisions need to be made. Choices come that could mean the end of the beginning. This is a story that grabs you by the heart, squeezes, pumps and leaves you feeling good. Well done! Nice series cover art.
I am enjoying this series. This is another fun read, and I can relax and enjoy with the knowledge that there will be little angst. I know the HEA won't be too hard won, and that is just what I need sometimes.
The story is very well written, moving smoothly between the POV's of Kohen and Archer. Both main characters are excellently drawn and I like how Kohen has worked to overcome difficulties he faced at school. He still has low self esteem and is balanced by Archer who is a charming , gutsy and outspoken omega. (Archer's temper tantrum near the end was a disappointment!) The author brought out the comedic side of Duke, Kohen's father, so well. Add Sunny into the mix, and this makes for a lighthearted read.
Cute cute cute! Lovable Texan Archer finally meets his dream cowboy when he takes an emergency call to help Kohen’s horse after she gets barbed wire tangled around her leg. The attraction between them is instant and by the time Bex is patched up, they’ve planned a date and exchanged numbers. They have a lot in common and get along like they’ve known each other for years. The problem? Archer has put in for a transfer back home. When the call comes through, he must decide what he wants more: to return to his family in Texas or to begin a new family in Devon with Kohen.

Archer was ready to head back to Texas then on a call out for an injured horse he meets Kohen. Vet Omega Archer was fed up just dealing with pets as his real interest is large animals plus he is missing his family so is considering moving back to Texas. Then when covering a later shift he gets called out to attend an injured horse and meets owner good looking Alpha Kohen. Both feel an attraction but are wary but Archer agrees to come back and go for a ride around the ranch a few days later. A MM romance to relax and enjoy.

One big thing in this book that annoyed me is that Archer kept saying "y'all" when speaking to just one person. "Y'all" is plural. If the author wanted to emphasize his drawl better, then he should have been saying "ya" when speaking to just one person and "y'all" to more than one.
Cohen and Archer meet when a horse is injured. The Alpha and Omega have instant chemistry and start to build a relationship. You get to see them build a relationship, meet one cantankerous dad and catch up with Sunnydale vets. You also get to see a misunderstanding almost tear them apart but then see them come back together stronger than ever. This is not my favorite of this series but still is a great read.

Kohen and Archer have a strong connection from their first meeting, and they are clearly compatible. They have a fun, sweet, slow building romance that leads to intense passion and eventually love and HEA. There are a few hiccups along the way that cause some tension, as well as some laughs, and some feel good moments. This is an enjoyable story with wonderful characters and a storyline that is interesting.

Horse of a Different Color is such an incredibly sweet story. No major drama, no major angst, just a touching tale of two people coming together and falling in love. Kohen and Archer seem, in many ways, to be such opposites but their differences compliment each other to the point where you just know they will have their HEA. If you are looking for a book that will make you smile, this is the one.

Kohan is a farmer who is looking for for the one to settle down with. Archer is a veterinarian at Sunnydale Animal Hospital. He's loves his work but he wants to work with large animals. He also is homesick for his family in Texas. Kohan's horse injures his legs and Kohan call Sunnydale. Archer goes to the farm to care for the horse. When Kohan and Archer meet they're attracted to each other. Will it be enough to keep Archer in Devon? I'm really enjoying this whole series.
I listened to this book at 1.45 Author: Austin Bates Plot. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars Story. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars & why. Kind of believable except for the fact that there are that many gay vets working at the same small small town office. And it's a omega story line. Males giving birth. Heat. 🔥🔥flames Narrator.: Guilliaume Dubois Betrayal of the story. 🥈 Silver. why: Needs work on more voices. Some were real good and others sounded like he was drowning. Over all 4 stars.
Horse of a different Color by Austin Bates. A fantastic read with great characters. Loved Kohen and Archer. Duke was funny when he kept trying to match make the pair. Loved Archer when he had a go at 2 alpha's who were digging at Kohen. Loved how he stuck up for him. Loved the story and the cover. 5*.
I loved Archer's feisty spirit and Kohen just a sweetheart! I understood Archer's desire to return home to Texas and his family. He doesn't feel like he fits in. Kohen doesn't feel like he fits either but his reasons are his self-perception. Kohen's dad Duke is a hoot. The man has no filter. I liked that after a big fight, both guys sincerely apologize and forgive quickly.
I loved the main characters. They were really sweet to each other. Archer and Kohen were very interesting characters. They fixed something in the other that they needed fixed. They gave each other good loving. Lots of passion happened between them.

It was pretty good until the 75% mark obligatory romance novel conflict. And this one was totally dumb and out of proportion and quickly flipped the other way. Archer's whole reaction made no sense. It was a cute story before that. And while I'm not from the south, I'm pretty sure the use of y'all was wrong at least half the time.
I was drawn into the book the moment I started it. The story line never had any dull moments, and the dialog between Kohen and Archer was fantastic. Archer is all cowboy and an Alpha. He dropped out of school and has been working and helping run the farm with his dad. One accident and in come the hottest vet he has ever seen. It is instant attraction for both of them, but they both have self doubts and personal things they have to deal with. They love each other, but is that enough to keep this cowboy and vet together forever?

Kohen and Archer's relationship is not quite traditional. I love strong Omega's and the first date diner scene is priceless! It's often amazing what people will say when they are scared of change. Love communication!
