Barricelli uses a somewhat old-fashioned analytical approach, and is not particularly accessible to those who are less familiar with his wide-ranging topics, particularly his repeated focus on Balzac. "Music as Fantasy" is a very interesting, if awkward, essay on a particularly poetic flavour of musical philosophy.
