Life in the Scythian court was never easy. Just being born royalty painted a target on Maeve's back.
Despite the deadly games, failed assassination attempts, and a truly monstrous parentage, Maeve discovered her true family; her brother and her dragon. They should've been enough to protect the kingdoms from devil growing in their midst. But that's the funny thing about love, it's blind.
It took one moment for Maeve to lose everything she loved, and one more for her to irrecoverably change. Sometimes to destroy a monster, one had to become something worse. Every villain has his handmaiden, and the Warlord was no exception.
The fairy-tales had it wrong. Monster's weren't born, they were made.
In this heart - wrenching novella of the Internationally Bestselling Series The Aermian Feuds, Maeve will set in place a rebellion that will span hundreds of years and shake the very foundation of everything you thought you knew.

I don’t know if I actually enjoyed this book more then the prior two installations, or if I was just so excited to take a break from Sage and Tehl that I brainwashed myself into thinking I enjoyed this book more.
I liked seeing into Maeve’s past. I also enjoyed watching the Warlords' absolute descent.
This book was heartbreaking, but honestly, there’s so much depressing shit in this series, I feel like adding this one on was just par for the course.
I rarely leave reviews...but for this series, I feel like I need to. Most reviews ramble on with well deserved high praises, when a story is deserving. So, to follow the norm, I give this book, and series five stars all the way. But, let me also add how important a good series like this is to some readers. For me, Sage in all of her badassery reminded me that deep within me was a sleeping warrior, and it was time to awaken her. I have been in a six year dispute over the kidnapping of my granddaughter, the severe abuse she experienced during her time away from us led us to an extremely bitter custody battle. I at times felt helpless, so having such a series to escape to has been a profound experience for me. I know it sounds crazy, but the characters in some books can literally inspire us all in some way or another. I am happy to say that having this series to escape to helped me to calm the storm and to realize truths and evidence that wasn't so obvious. We won the case, all is great now. I know that it's just a story, but I think an author sometimes deserves more that a high five rating.I am an artist/writer, and because I know how hard it can be to write,an author like Frost Kay deserves to know her storyline, and characters are powerful enough to awaken things in her readers, and give them a much needed respite from the real world. I anxiously await the next book in this series. I have also read her Mixology series and find myself eager for its next book.
There are no easy words to describe the way I feel about this book and series. This book, as are the others in the series, is very well written. It has some well described deep moments where Sage suffers with nightmares and during the day, she blanks out reliving the horror. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to experience what Sage went through and yet Ms Frost describes her pain like a pro. And Tehl I have fallen in love with. He is right there to support Sage and ease her through her pain bringing her back to the present. Now Aermia is forced to prepare for war with the Scythians. As we read about Aermia gathering their allies, the reader is in for a big surprise! You will never see it coming. Last of all, we hit the dreaded cliffhanger. And, of course, I am going to read the next book in the series. I can hardly wait. I hope we don’t have to wait long as I will be biting my nails to the quick until then. I highly recommend reading this book as you will be greatly entertained.
I loved getting this little story and finding out more about Mauve. She was a character that changed Sage's and Jasmine's fate but we only had a brief idea of why that happened and to save Blaise didn't seem like a big enough reason to take such a risk. I mean, sure that's her daughter but Blaise has been in danger for her entire life so the moment of escape only made a tiny bit of sense. But after reading this short story I understand her motivations better. Plus, I didn't think it was possible but I'm even more excited about the next book in the series! I'm also hoping we get more short stories about the other supporting characters...like Rafe! I can tell his story must be incredibly interesting, especially after the big reveals in King's Warrior. *I definitely recommend these books and I'll reread them for the rest of my life! *
I have read other books by this author before, but this is the first book I have read in this series. Even though I have not read the other books, when I recieved an ARC of this one, I figured I would jump right in and if need be go back to the beginning. This book is written in such a way, that even though I an unfamiliar with the world, I didn't feel lost in the book.
Maeve, the MC, goes through so much in this book, and I really felt her pain and anguish, and understood her resolve for the choices she made. She is beautifully written, and I am looking forward to her continued story.
Zane, I do not understand him. I hope to get a look at what has made him into the warlord he has become.
This story was a quick read, that packs a punch! I highly recommend it!
A short story that gives insight on Maeve, a character who up until this point we really know little about what motivates her other than being a fiercely protective and highly skilled warrior mother. My continual wondering over those supposedly extinguished mythological creatures and those peoples once attached to their existence was even more peaked by this read. Why was Maeve, a Scythian, so attached to them? In connection to Spy´s Mask, how might Dor be connected and other Scythians and Pit family members and friends? Looking forward to reading on and finding out?
Hello readers yes I didn’t realise I would be signing up for utter HEARTBREAK reading this but here we are and oh my god it hurts. If I hadn’t already started the series I would be straight into it after finishing this just under 70 page masterpiece of beauty and pain.
Frost’s novellas are some of the most well written I have come across!
Another intriguing tale in the Aeriman fueds world. Who's on your side? What will someone do to keep a trusted one "in line"? There are no lines some people won't cross. I love this fantasy so much!
The wait is finally over and we get to see our favorite characters again! And we even get to meet new characters, just as badass and resilient as Sage & Co. :) I've quite enjoyed the journey the Aermian Feuds took so far, and I can't wait for the next and final book!
I loved this little insight into her life. I really like her as a character and I just wish this book had been longer. I would have liked to know a little more. But here’s to hoping that we see much more of Maeve in future books.
I really enjoyed reading this novella. It's a short read that tells the horrid tale of a warlord's wrath thrust upon his sister, all in the name of 'love'. Terrifying, if you ask me. I'd recommend you read this as part of the Aermian Feuds series, and for fantasy readers.
This was Maeve's background story. It shows why she was less reluctant to help Sage in Enemy's Queen & to get Blaise out of Scythia. While other readers say it doesn't add anything, that's true to an extent. But it shows Maeve's hatred of the warlord's actions against Nagali & the rest of the world. Keep your friends close & your enemies closer.
Even though this says it's book 4.5 in the series, it is a prequel story, so I have to read it first (because that's the reader I am, lol). it's a quick read, but the author did a great job of setting up this world and left me wanting more. excited to read the rest of the series
This is a good appetizer for book 5, now to wait for book 5. Hope it is soon...I can recommend this short story as it still can make me cry and hold my breath to see what is next.
I loved reading Maeve’s story but it tore my heart up reading all that she’s been through. And Spinel, oh my heart. Can’t wait to continue the story in the next book!
A quick read with some emotional insight into an essential character. I only wish that it were longer! This is book 4.5 in the series. I can not wait to get my hands on book 5, Spy’s Mask!
This wasn’t bad but there could have been so much more and honestly I expected so much more. I was shocked it ended so quickly. It seemed to be just getting started.
This added nothing to the story. The only thing you learn important is about her dragon. That’s it. I thought this was going to go into the years she worked to bring about a rebellion or how she plotted to stop him. Her children, her husband, just something... So disappointing because this could have been amazing and could have added so much more depth to her character.
What’s amazing is how many people gave this 5 stars. Again not that this is bad but honestly it adds nothing to the story. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Unfortunately this didn’t tell you how long it was (said “word wise”) otherwise i would not have wasted $3 on this. It did not occur to me that the author would charge money for 5 chapters that don’t even add up to 100 pages? At least put this novella and the Siren’s Lure together. Otherwise you just look money hungry.
