The Ten-der Commandments: Reflections on the Father's Love

Rate this book

Take a fresh look at the Ten Commandments in a whole new light. Ron Mehl interprets Christianity's best-known scripture not as a series of ominous warnings, but as the ultimate statement of God's love.

I really enjoyed this book as I was easily able to relate to the author and his core values. I admire how he was not willing to hide his faith, as well as how he never made himself seem superior to others. I would recommend this book to anyone in a heartbeat since it's made such an impact on my life in a short amount of time.

I read this because it was recently gifted to me by a Pastor who was really encouraging me with the message it speaks.

Overall, it was a refreshing read to hear Ron’s perspective on the 10 commandments. Viewing them as a love letter is definitely something that is hard to wrap my mind around, but Ron put it into language that was easy to understand. Very minimal notes so it just felt like an extended commentary with 98% of the content coming straight from him.

As I attend a church that seems to be extremely focused on the Ten Commandments, I was so thrilled to find this book. It is an excellent and compassionate book about the Ten Commandments and how they show how much God loves for us. They are not a bunch of rules designed to weigh us down, but instead they show how God loves us tenderly, deeply, compassionately, wisely, etc.

If you think the Ten Commandments are harsh, restrictive, etc., I really encourage you to read this book. It will continue to be one of my favorite books.

A lot of the illustration felt like good sermon illustrations. It felt like it was written by a preacher, which I appreciated. I think it didn't deliver on the promise of the title as much as I would have liked. Overall, felt a bit more like a typical book dealing with the 10 Commandments and mostly didn't deliver a lot on how they speak to use of God's love, at least not as much as I would have hoped baed on the title

This was a good resource while our church was studying the 10 Commandments recently. It's very much a "theology-lite" study, filled with the author's own personal stories and insights. While it doesn't get into the depth and breadth of the Ten Commandments, it offers a conversational study that will appeal to many lay readers.

The book changed the way I look at the Ten Commandments. Rather than a bunch of rules and regulations intended to squelch one's individuality, they were intended as protective measures from a loving heavenly Father who knew where our debased natures would take us without restraints.
