After the devastating loss of another pregnancy caused by Greenberg family abuse, Sophie can’t take it anymore. She walks away from her marriage to Seth Greenberg and his rich family with the help of some new friends. Looking to return to her simple way of life, she throws a dart at a map and decides to move wherever it lands. With the settlement from her divorce, Sophie and her best friend, Sue, begin a new life in the small town of Holly Berry Ridge. She opens a consignment shop and is happy except for one thing; she longs for the baby she still doesn’t have. Parker O’Brien, a local woodworker, rents a space in Sophie’s shop to sell his furniture. One piece, a beautiful cradle, becomes the object of Sophie’s obsession. The young woman wishes upon the cradle every night when she closes the shop. Her grandmother used to tell her, “A wish from the heart is a direct line to angel’s ears.” Will they hear Sophie’s wishes? Will she ever be blessed with a child to fulfill her life? God sends the answer to her wishes, but is it what she was expecting and what she wants? Several twists and turns will bring Sophie to her happily ever after in Holly Berry Ridge. Was the throw of the dart random or was an invisible hand guiding her way?

Wow, this book was utterly amazing. My heart went from being broken to hopeful while reading this story. As a woman that has suffered multiple miscarriages including a late one at 18 weeks this story tugged at my soul and broke my heart but it beautifully put the pieces back together again.

After an abusive marriage that caused miscarriages Sophie is ready for a fresh start. Throwing a dart at a map she goes where it lands, a small Pennsylvania town. Reconnecting with a previous best friend from school they renew their friendship. With money from her divorce settlement she buys a house for herself and opens a profitable business. She is obsessed with having a child especially after her last miscarriage. The book was emotional, so get the tissues ready. The romance aspect of the book was really meh! In my opinion the romance could have been developed so much better but it just stagnated. Sophie and Parker have secrets from each other and they don't trust each other for it. That is no way to start or even keep a relationship. Secrets will do you in, they will eventually come out and no one will trust you! I didn't like how she handled the stress with her excessive binge drinking either. I just could not relate to that! Overall the book had a good base but the story could have been developed in a different manner and would have been a lot stronger!

What a lovely story! I’m delighted that I came across this book. It has wonderful characters along with plenty of drama and romance. It started off with domestic violence and I wasn’t certain I was ready for that. But Sophie had me hooked and the story flowed easily. The domestic violence did cause me a few twitches as I remembered my own experiences while pregnant with my oldest daughter. But the author didn’t get too graphic or violent though there were consequences. I like that she kept it real, especially with Sophie and her memories. The book held a few surprises and took some twists and turns. I absolutely adored Riley. I recommend this book especially if you are looking for something a bit dark set partially at Christmas time. I was expecting something kind of light and was delightfully surprised with a deeper story.
This is a page turner that normally would have taken me a few hours to read; I’m thinking about 4 hours max. I was being treated for severe pain though so it took much longer.

I really liked this story. Even though it was a little unrealistic it had a wonderful Christian outlook and some special Christmas miracles. Sophie and her friend Sue are both victims of domestic violence and when Sophie wins a huge settlement in her divorce case they both decide to start over in Holly Berry Ridge. Sophie has some personal issues to work through but with help of her new friends and neighbors she becomes a new woman who can accept herself and what God has given her.

Five wonderful wishes later I had two natural and three adopted children.
One of my daughters took almost two days to finally decide the world and I had waited long enough and

Sophie is in an abusive marriage and has suffered physically and emotionally at the hands of her husband and his wealthy family. He husband and mother-in-law simply want her to have a child, preferably a son, but her husband’s abuse has resulted in several miscarriages.
An unexpected opportunity arises that enable Sophie to start over again. She makes contact with an old friend and the two of them make their way to the small town of Berry Ridge. Sophie opens a new business and slowly begins to recover from her past. She still finds herself longing for a child. When Sophie develops a friendship with Parker she hopes one day she we realize her dream.

This book is stand alone. It feels like it covers a very long period of time, but it is about 13 months. The characters are interesting. The protagonist has a difficult past that is explained throughout the book. The setting changes from one town to another. The town to which Sophie moves is a quaint place where everyone knows one another. I found there were times in the book when it seemed a fast forward button was pushed and action was missing. Overall, I thought this was a good book.

This book is now at the top of my favorite books for 2017. The author has talent that surpasses many famous well known authors with her details, and inspiring story. There was no way I could put the book down until I finished it. It has everything that makes a book a best seller. The characters are relatable and the storyline is emotional and intriguing. If you haven’t read one of the author’s books yet, I encourage you to grab them all. I recommended you start with this Christmas story that will leave you in tears. I’m not a big crier, but this story reached deep into my emotions and allowed me to feel every painful words and hurt that the main character endured.

You never know when you choose a path in life, where you will end up. Sophie thought she had the perfect husband but her dreams were shattered when the abuse started. The verbal abuse was just as painful as the physical abuse and Sophie knew she needed to get away. The scene where her mother -in -law verbally shamed her was powerful. I wanted to scream at Sophie to stop arguing and run as fast as she could. Sometimes people with money become power hungry and Sophie has married into a family that will do anything to keep up appearances. My heart broke as Sophie seemed to have no way out of her situation.

The story follows Sophie as she begins a new life far away from her past. Her desire to have a child overwhelms her at times. I really liked how vulnerable the author made her as she slowly became what she hated the most. She was at times rude and judgmental which was so out of character for her. Did her anger for not having a child make her a bitter person? Her journey takes her to a small town that she hopes will become her saving grace. I have to mention Parker because he is very important to the story. He is a good man and starts to have feelings for Sophie. I found their relationship to be a bit shaky because they each had secrets they were hiding. The author explores how secrets can destroy people and how hard it is to earn a person’s trust again.

Riley is an adorable child who longs to have a mother. Sophie and Riley have a connection right away and I loved how Sophie opened her heart to him. I loved how Sophie reached out to God and prayed for a child but also prayed for forgiveness. The cradle in the story was described so vividly that I could see it sitting in front of me. The cradle has special meaning and as you read the book, you will discover how it represents hope and love. The most important thing I took away from this book is that when you open your heart, your dreams can happen. Being a caring and loving person is easy when you love unconditionally.

Sophie endured a disastrous marriage, which brought abuse by her husband and his overbearing, class obsessed mother, along with a series of miscarriages that left Sophie, who really wanted a child, devastated. Finally, Sophie, with the help of another well-to-do family who recognized her tragic circumstances, escaped and moved on to a new life in a small town, Holly Berry Ridge. There she opened an antiques store, while also sharing space with townsfolk who had items they wished to sell to the tourist public. One of them was Parker, who crafted exquisite furniture and worked in his family’s mill, which was close by. Sophie is taken by Parker almost from the start. However, this mysteriously attractive man had secrets of his own and is as reluctant to share them as Sophie is of her own disastrous marriage and miscarriages. Sophie becomes attracted to a cradle in her store, which becomes her “wishing cradle”, on which she wishes and hopes every day for the child she wants and so desperately pines for. What she does not realize is that her desire for a child has overtaken her life and is blocking just about everything else. How does this caring woman figure out what to do? Through a series of events and conversations with the other towns people (her new friends), her old friend Sue and, of course, Parker, and his elderly uncle, Sophie realizes the folly of her ever-present desire for a child. However, can she overcome this, and can she and Parker ever realize their destiny together, as well as how she can satisfy the deep want/need for the child she so desperately wants and how/if Parker can likewise figure out where he fits in all this and how he can help Sophie.

This is a great story, for the holiday season and any other time (the holiday setting is not overpowering.). I found the two main characters, Sophie and Parker, both interesting and well-developed. I also found young Riley perfect, endearing in every move or event he was included in, and I think he added a fantastic dimension to the tale. I also found Sophie’s main friends, Sue and her manager Marie, very likeable additions to the cast. The author even added a bit of mystery to the story, with the stalking of Sophie, which, though not overwhelming, only added to my interest in the tale. This is a story I will not soon forget. There were moments for tears and moments for smiles. I do not know if this is the start of a series, but it could well be, as there are plenty of other stories inside this one that can be fleshed out. I highly recommend this one. I would give it more than five stars if I could. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

I immediately fell in love with Sophie in this story and wanted her to come out on the winning end of everything. Sophie when we meet her had been living the life of luxury, except things are not always what they seem and as people say the grass is not always greener on the other side. Sophie is trying to figure out how she is going to get away from her abusive husband and horrible mother in law when things take a turn for the worst and Sophie doesn't have to worry about that anymore. When Sophie is presented with a way out of her situation, she takes the offer and never looks back.

Sophie has reconnected with her long lost friend who has also gone through a rough time herself as well. Sophie presents Sue with an offer she can't resist either and the two women set of to make a new start for themselves in Holly Berry Ridge. On the way to their destination, the women get stuck in a snow storm and Sophie ends up seeing a man that captures her attention from the moment she lays eyes on him. There is just something about Parker that Sophie wants to get to know better. Sophie knows it is crazy because they are just in this town long enough to let the storm pass over.

Sophie and Sue get to Holly Berry Ridge and immediately start looking for places to buy as their own and trying to decide what they want to do with their lives now. Sophie knows that she wants to get back into Antiques like shushed to be before her marriage took that all away from her Sophie find two properties that she likes and ends up getting both of the. Sue has been talking to the owner of the B&B they are staying in and an opportunity has been brought up to her as well.

Sophie ends up reconnecting with the man she saw when they were stopped for the snow storm, Parker, and he lives in this town as well. Well, you can guess how things end up going for these two probably but it is not exactly how you would think!! They have their back and forth's and their soul searching issues to work through as well. Sophie ends up falling in love with a cradle that Parker has made and says a prayer on it each day before she leaves her store. You will get so lost in Sophie and Parkers story that you will wonder where the time has gone. I was so upset when this one was finished but it was such a good read!! I will definitely be on the lookout for more stories from Donna Walo Clancy!!

Beautiful Christmas Story

The Wishing Cradle is a beautifully written story that is timeless and will be enjoyed for many years to come. Sophie is married to a wealthy man who is cruel and abusive causing her to have had three miscarriages. She is afraid at first to leave knowing that she has nothing on her own and that she won't be able to survive. Things come to a head on Thanksgiving when her husband throws a once again pregnant Sophie to the ground causing her to miscarry for the fourth time. This time her husband makes the mistake of abusing herb in front of many guests including the very wealthy and classy Walkers. The Walkers visit Sophie in the hospital and offer her a solution including a profitable divorce and a restraining order against her ex so that she can go on with her life . Joining forces with her former best friend Sue, Sophie picks a random small town called Holly Berry Ridge, PA to relocate to and start a new life. Sophie buys a home, opens a business and begins a relationship with a local named Parker. Parker is a woodpecker who ends up placing pieces to sell in Sophies shop including a beautiful cradle that becomes the object of her obsession for a baby. Many twists and turns occur in the book that will make you cry and feel pity for Sophie including a falling out with Parker. Will Sophie ever get her baby, will she find true love and will the wishing cradle ever be filled? This is such a heartwarming story of dreams, wishes, Christmas magic and God's will. I highly recommend this book to all those readers who love to read the magic of Christmas and God's answer to our prayers even when they are not quite what you expect it to be.

This story was much better than I expected..and that was a lot. To the general public, everyone thinks Sophie has the perfect life..handsome hubby, she lives in a huge mansion, more money than anyone could ever spend..but the one thing she wants most in life, keeps getting taken away from her..a child. This time she has finally made it to 5 months, and felt the baby move. She would give up everything for this child. Her hubby has beaten the other babies out of her, and she wants this one to be different. This rich family hates people and thinks everyone is beneath them. But one night, during a holiday gathering at the mansion, Sophies life as she has lived for the last 6 years, will change forever. During an argument ( one of many) with her mother in law, things get heated so her hubby steps in and brutally pushes Sophie away, sending her in to the fall that sends her to the hospital and lose this child too. But what the family doesnt realize is that everyone saw what happened. She ends up being protected and finally gets away from this family. She reconnects with an old friend and they both move far away to start new lives. This is where the story happens. They each meet the man they are destined to be with, but when secrets become un covered, will Sophie be able to keep her secrets hidden? Can she risk losing more? She has the old cradle in her antique shop that she makes her baby wish on every night. You really need to read this story because there is so much more to the story..and so many secrets! Great book !

This book doesn't only use all five sense but ALL the feelings as well; from despair to hope, from loss to gain, from misery to complete joy the reader experiences it all with Sophie. The very first sentence grabs, hooks, and doesn't release. Not even once the book is over! (Personally I've read it twice already!) Everything wraps up cleanly and well by the end, but that doesn't mean the characters are done whispering to the audience. It feels as though one can't get to the ending fast enough, but it's also done quicker than is wanted. One of my favourite things about this wonderful story is that it doesn't follow the "typical" romance story trope of betrayal, break up, half-hearted apology followed by them getting back together quickly with no repercussions. In this novel, Sophie has to work hard and honestly to be able to have even a hope of recuperating from a large devastation she caused. It is real, powerful, and beautiful. It forever holds a special place in my heart and I can only hope to continue to be able to read books of this incredible, amazing caliber.

Emotionally Charged

The Wishing Cradle follows Sophie, a young woman who marries into a rich family. After suffering several miscarriages, being beaten by her abusive husband, verbally abused by his family as a "nobody", Sophie gets help in escaping her situation.

After obtaining a divorce, she moves with her best friend to a small town, where she opens a consignment shop, while her friend takes over a bed and breakfast. Still reeling from the pain of her miscarriages, Sophie desperately wishes nightly to angels for a child of her own.

Sometimes what you most need and desire is right in front of you, if you will only look. The Wishing Cradle is an emotion-packed tale that will keep you reading to the very end. I started reading and couldn't put it down. I loved every word!

What a wonderful, emotional engrossing book. I purchased it yesterday and finished it last night. I absolutely could not put it down. The storyline grabs you from the beginning and holds you there. The characters are easy to root for. The main character Sophie is so real, you feel her vulnerability and hurt. It is a story of despair and longing, hope, and in the end love. This author is headed for the best sellers list. Her descriptive writing style and her ability to make her characters jump off the page has quickly made her an author that I will quickly grab whatever she writes. loved, loved this book and highly recommend this book and any other book Clancy writes

I didn't expect much was I wrong

I thought this was going to be a little light reading, not expecting a whole lot from it. Not was I wrong. Sometimes you gain a lot of insight and perspective in a so called simple little book. Sophie had so much fear inside her, she really wanted someone she could love and would love her back but she lacked faith and trust. Parker had been hurt by the 2 most important women in his life and it all came down to money. And then there is Riley, the toddler who saved them both. I loved this book. It was the first time I read anything by this author but definitely won't be the last

Unbelievably wonderful story of pain, friendship, hope, and love. Would you have the strength to endure years of abuse, both physical and verbal? Would you be able to pick up and move to a town you’d never heard of before threw a dart at a map? Would you have the generosity to set up a friend in business and pay for a child’s school? Would you’ve able to let go of a dream you’ve had for years in order to not loss the man you love?

Heart warming and beautifully written. Characters you want to yell at, cheer for, and hug!

5 Stars is not enough for this book. I knew I was going to have a hard time reading it because I lost a baby but it was such a good book.

After suffering miscarriages, heartache and horrible marriage and in-laws Sophie finally breaks free and her and Sue her friend from the past head out on a new adventure. They hope to find great jobs, homes and maybe men to start a family with. Things get crazy for Sophie but she really hopes things work out in the end.

A Very Compelling Story

I literally couldn't put the book down.I read it in two days. I think everyone should read this book. It out so many things into perspective while you can't wait to see what happens next. There are probably more "wishing cradles" out there than we realize. This is a wonderful book and Ms. Clancy has penned a winner that should in my mind become a classic!

Wow! What a wonderful story.

Initially, I thought that the book was a Christmas story, but it was so much more. There was horror, suspense, jealousy, intrigue and a happy ending. The characters were believable, interesting and at times, vulnerable and stubborn. I couldn't stop reading! I had to get to the end.
