Drake Restrained

Rate this book
Drake Morgan, MD, Neurosurgeon, bass player, philanthropist – Dominant. He doesn't do girlfriends, he doesn’t do sleepovers, and he certainly doesn't do breakfast in bed the morning after. He has his surgical slate at New York Presbyterian, he has a charitable foundation providing surgical tools to hospitals in Africa, he has his Brit Invasion cover band, Mersey, and he has his secret life as a Dominant in Manhattan's BDSM community. Into bondage, D/s and the occasional dungeon scene, Drake keeps every part of his life separate, the divisions between them neat and tidy. His weeks are filled with surgeries, music and D/s sex, and none of the well-planned and scheduled parts of his life intersect. That is until Kate McDermott crosses his path and screws everything up. Now, nothing is neat and tidy anymore, for Drake is smitten and things are going to get messy… ***Note*** The Drake Series is The Unrestrained Series told from Drake's point of view. It includes brand new material as well as scenes from The Agreement as seen through Drake's eyes. The series is intended for 18+ due to explicit content.

Drake Morgan is a doctor. He is a Dom. He is always in control. Until her...

Dr. Drake Morgan is in it deep and he doesn't even know her name. He knows she wears delectable garters and can barely walk in heels but this controller is losing it and fast!

The whirlwind romance between our friendly neighborhood doctor...(okay so he's a neurosurgeon and its specialized) and his little sub is filled with plenty of road blocks, some potholes, and ill advised friends. Nothing short of drama for this pragmatic Dom and his beginner sub.

It's a fun way to dip your toes in the BDSM world without having to really dive in (if you are a newbie). Drake Restrained is just enough kink to have all the vanilla lovers in a tizzy and leather lovers craving more! Romance lovers will be swept up regardless of where they fall on the kink-o-meter. It's a devilishly fun ride!

A really great erotica and love story.

I read this book and have never in my wildest dreams dreamt of anything so sexy in my whole life and I to think I thought that the 50 shades trilogy was mainly love fest boy could have never been more wrong. It did it's job at getting me aroused and I recommend the read too All the 50 shades fans. Trust me when I say you will love this book.

Drake Restrained: Book 1 in the Drake Series
By: S. E. Lund
Narrated by: Jack Calihan

This book mirrors S.E. Lund’s “The Agreement” in her “Unrestrained Series”, it is told in Drake’s POV with new material, Drake’s thoughts, added. I think I liked Drake’s version more than Kate’s. Not because he is the more interesting person of the duo, but because we learn more of who he is in this story. I knew I was going to love this story right from the start, S.E. Lund ’s Drake had me at the 3 things you should understand about neurosurgeons: “Huge Balls. Laser-like focus. Hero Complex” Ha, arrogant much? The story flows nicely and as in the past book there is lots of drama, some angst and the start of a great romance. There is some kink, mild D/s as well as plenty of emotions. I am rooting for Drake and Kate and their relationship!

I listened to the Audible edition, Jack Calihan is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. He brings the characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality. You can hear the emotions of the characters & the drama of the story in his performance. I loved his take on Drake, he gave him heart and he nailed his alpha Dom persona too. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧

Still reading outside of my usual comfort zone at the suggestion of my wife. I had great fears that this book was going to turn into another 50 Shades of Gag Me, but written by an author whose style I like.

The characters are vividly described, but not in every minute detail. Great interaction between characters. The sex scenes are very hot and very well described, but not as kinky as I was expecting. If you are looking for really kinky hot sex, this book may disappoint you a bit. For someone so into kinky D/s sex, Drake sure likes a lot of plain vanilla missionary sex with his lady love.

Another complaint is why does the male love interest always have to be some billionaire playboy with lots of time on his hands? I like how Drake had to juggle a busy operating career as well as a band, and fairly regularly scheduled sex. I am not sure about most people, but I would not be happy having sex only on my scheduled days.

This audio book was narrated exceptionally well by Jack Calihan. I have read other S.E. Lund novels and enjoyed them. The story for this novel is good. The characters are believable. Listening to it was a bit of a challenge at times due to the repetitive nature of the dialogue. It seems like Drake repeats himself every other chapter at a minimum. I am not sure if that would be less bothersome in print but it began to feel a bit like listening to a lecture or broken record after about the third time things were said. I am however interested enough that I am going to listen to the next book in the series. Jack Calihan is so easy to listen to that I am willing to make the stretch and see if the issue is eliminated in book 2.

Interesting

Never read 50 shades of grey or seen the movies, but I would imagine that this book runs along the same plots. Although I heard that 50sg was a bit of a thriller too while this novel wasn’t. There were mostly typical “vanilla” sex scenes even though the hero was portrayed as a dominant. Go figures really as you can only put so much info about bdsm into a book before it loses its charm. Also the heroine’s friend was only mention 2-3 times even though she was suppose to be as important character. Overall her role was pretty pointless and the novel was a slow burn romance that wasn’t climatic in the end at all.

I am hooked on this series!

I love this story between strong minded , intelligent, loving Kate and hot dominant Drake. He wanted a sub for D/s scenes and sex only. Kate literally fell in Drake's arms and he had no chance of following his own rules. I felt the love and attraction sizzling between them. I will read this entire series. This book is my kind of reading, I am not into sadistic humiliation in stories. This book had me from the first page! I just read Drakes point of view hot yummy romance.

Good

When I first read this book, it was from Kate's point of view, so reading this through Drake's eyes intrigued me. In Kate's POV, he comes off a bit cold. Here, you see his relationship with a former Sub, his friend Lara, and how he became a Dom.

It also explains a bit of Drake's past. He was hurt terribly by his ex-wife. Which is why he refuses to have any real relationships other than D/s and they have to be a contract.

He refuses to fall in love again, but when he meets Kate, she is everything he's ever wanted.

Repetitive copycat of 50 shades of grey

I never read the Fifty Shades of Grey but I felt like this a copycat of that . Drake is a arrogant bastard and Kate slightly firm doormat. I made it to page 197 and after I could not continue any further . This book was so repetitive and annoying. How the author thought that any reader would appeal to the characters was beyond me. Do nut waste your time it's money. I'm glad it was free. I wish I could give it zero stars.

Drake Restrained

Drake is a neurosurgeon and a Dom. After his divorce five years ago he never thought he could ever love again, until he met Katherine. Katherine is wanting to know more about the BD part of BDSM. So when a Domme tells her about Drake. Can Kate go in this for sex only? Great read now on to book 2.

I loved seeing this story from Drake's eyes. Although we're seeing everything happen all of again it felt like a completely different story. It's really amazing seeing Drake's background before Kate came into his life and how he slowly fell in love with her. Their chemistry was just amazing and sexy

Awezome

I read The Agreement first and I really loved that book. But after reading this one I can honestly say I love the different perspective this book gave. I will definitely read the other two in this series.

Drake meets Katherine and wow, he doesn't know what to do. He is a brilliant neurosurgeon and he wants to dominate her.
He is into BDSM.
She wants to learn about it.
She tries to save him.
She loves kink. They both do and each other.

A Dom who is much more

Drake heard so much about Kate how could he not know who she was. That 1st meeting turned him to mush. Shouldn't happen he was to be in control yet this beautiful young woman had him loosing control.

The start of a great series.

A doctor and a dom who likes to keep his life very much compartmentalised with never any parts touching the other. That was till he met Kate is adopted father figures daughter. A slow burn to start but starting to warm up nicely.

Loved the book but I found it annoying that he kept calling her ms. Bennett when that's not her name. It took me until 60% through the book to figure out why he was doing it. I thought it was a typo. After figuring it out it was slightly less annoying.

lacking

What a note. Skimmed mist pages just to complete the book. Drake was a lackluster character as well as Katherine. Had in my library since July 2018, wish it had stayed there

Really loved reading this story from Drake's point of view and seeing what makes him tick. Oh, Drake, how do I love thee...? Anywho, know that Drake Restrained can be purchased/read as one whole book that is Drake's point of view of the first book in the Unrestrained series. I guess the publisher or someone saw a way to make some more money and broke the first book--Drake Unrestrained--down into four small novellas. So save yourself some time, space, and money and just find the entire Drake Unrestrained book as one book--it's 428 pages and you can get it on Amazon in paperback or Kindle. The three actual books in the series are Drake Restrained, Drake Unwound, and Drake Unbound. I've seen Drake Restrained, Drake Restrained 2, Drake Restrained 3 and Drake Restrained 4--these are all parts of the same story... Drake Restrained. Trying to see if there's a fourth Drake book, but I'm not sure...

PS--Forever After just came out, which is the Unrestrained book #5!!! Yay!

I had read the book from her perspective and I'm glad they made a version from his perspective. It's a good way of getting in the mind of the male as he pursues the female.

A gentle entre into BDSM and a deliciously simple D/s relationship between Drake and Kate. Unputdownable. Worth every tasty page.

Almost as good as the original

I have read the Unrestrained series, which is this same book, only from Kate's POV. I don't usually go back and read the same book again from another characters POV, but I made an exception with this one. It was good, but again it's just the retelling of the same story and it seems a lot of author's at doing this just as a money maker. I enjoyed the original series, but was not impressed with this one. I already knew what we going to happen, nothing had changed even from Drake's telling of their story. Just seemed like a sad case of the author not being able to come up with an idea for another book.

A pretty good book, however....

There seemed to be a lot of reputation and too much explanation of trivial things. The storyline about the "friend exposing Drake" could've been a great angle, but it was literally dropped. The Mommy/Daddy issues both of the main characters had were never fully addressed. There were a few grammatical/spelling errors, but not to the point of distraction. This book is kind of a watered down version of 50 Shades.

The other side of the story

WoW one of the most complex studies of human relations. Drake and Katherine how fabulous these two characters are! Told from Drake's point of view which is so much different than Katherine's view of self and love and need! I couldn't put it down! Simply amazing!!!
