The supernatural world is getting a lot of attention these days in books, movies and television series. But what does the Bible say about these other-worldly beings? Robert Lightner answers these questions with an in-depth look at the world of the "invisible" as expressed in Scripture.
This book is a great resource for what the Bible says about angels and demons. The author also covers some current beliefs about angels and discusses whether these are accurate or not based on Scripture. He devotes a whole chapter to questions and answers about these "invisible beings that inhabit the spiritual world."
A great book about the Biblical explanations of the supernatural. This book is guaranteed to upset every charismatic faith-healer and demon exorciser on the planet. Which is strange since all it does is show the Bible verses that deal with Angels and Demons.
Its wonderful that Chuck Swindoll does the Foreward for the book. That should tell us alot about Robert Lightner's theological stance. The best thing about this book is: it proves that God is incharge - not demons, not angels, not Satan, and definitely not US.
If anyone is curious about the supernatural claims of the Bible then this is the book for them. Forget all the rumors, tele-evangelists, Bob Larsons, and Hollywood movies: This book clearly shows what the Bible says.
Angels, Satan, Demons is an older book, but it is pretty good. Lightner takes a thorough look at what the Bible teaches about Angels, Satan, and Demons. He has a great chapter explaining the identity of the Angel of the Lord too.
The book was written as a response to the rise of "angelmania" in the New Age movement. Many Christians were not discerning the differences in ideas about angels.
Lightner speaks where Scripture speaks about supernatural beings. Very good treatment. Not overly academic. Easily readable.
Some of his conclusions about the activities of these beings today are influneced by his dispensational views. Overall, these conclusions will not detract from the solid teaching about angels, Satan, and demons for discerning readers.
Author obviously doesn't believe in the power of the Holy Spirit for the current age, but indicates that was only during the New Testament times. I totally disagree and therefore, lost my interest and respect for this book. He does, however, have some good biblical facts about angels, demons, and the fall of satan.
I wasn't sure if I would give this book 5 or 4 stars, but it was so well researched and written. I loved how the author only drew conclusions from what is in the Bible, and separated out the myths that are not. An excellent book.
